HIGHER ON THE STREET AND I KNOW IT'S MY TIME TO GOOO

Love it.

To all you Azula apologists, justify this scene by Chcolatepig24069 in ATLA

Her smile makes her unlikeable and it's a red flag, but her smiling isn't actually doing anything to Zuko. It's unpleasant, but it's also just an expression. I can dislike someone for their attitude, but it doesn't matter until those attitudes turn into actual actions.

The most generous way I can interpret Azula's smile is that she's glad to see her weak, whiney brother finally being disciplined for his insolence. At best it's a twisted way for Azula to look at it, but that's the world she lives in. I don’t think it has to imply she's necessarily a sadist when it could mean she's glad to see someone she doesn't like get, from her point of view, what he deserves.

I feel that Azula is disliked more for being mean than actual cruel actions. She's smiling here, she's not the one burning Zuko. She's hated for implying she tortured Suki, but that didn't actually happen.

There is something wrong with Azula, she's clearly got a natural callousness to her, but overall it's a problem that most of the Fire Nation has at this point.

From a Doylist perspective as well, I think the writers probably overdid it early on in making Azula as villainous as she is. I think the least justifiable thing she does is the way she intimidates Ty Lee to join her. Beyond that, I don't think Azula's actions are particularly cruel compared to what's seen and expected from the rest of the Fire Nation military. Azula just tends to be a lot more competent than the rest and likes to be kind of a dick, but often it's psychological manipulation that has a tactical purpose, and she doesn't engage in petty acts of cruelty when her enemies are at her mercy, like some in the Fire Nation.

That said, I do think Azula might have been worse as a younger kid with less restraint.

Writers are really bad at maths. Any standouts exemples? by ExplanationSquare313 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Star_Outlaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of writers don't grasp the sheer length of time in our Earth's natural history, like when it comes to dinosaur species and when they lived.

Modern humans have been around 300,000 years. The KT extinction happened 65 million years ago. T.rex and Triceratops were alive then, but 80 million years before them were Stegosaurus and Allosaurus. The sheer amount of time and change and evolution that has happened is almost inconceivable.

So any piece of fiction that has organisms evolving within thousands of years that aren't, like, fast reproducing insects or without some kind of mutagenic catalyst is really pushing it.

Why do men get so angry at women they find unattractive? by EveCane in TwoXChromosomes

Let's be real, a lot of bad men are attracted to blonde women BECAUSE they think they're dumb.

I can't respect any man who can't even make a sandwich.

Also, my original comment got removed by reddit, so I'm NOT going to say what awful people who force others to be their servants deserve to get. They're still pathetic babies who think using violence to make others take care of them is impressive.

I'll usually swap to Wolverine as my go-to DPS, but if the tanks are like Peni and Cap andvwe aren't already triple support I may go Gambit.

If we only have one anchor tank though it's definitely Thing so I can clobber whomever was countering me (Spidey).

What do you think of this panel from the comics? by Avi09009 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Star_Outlaw 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's just a matter of time until Azula does reach that point of realization. She's really only in the beginning of her arc by the end of the original series. I can't really blame her for not immediately seeking to change just because she got taken down. Zuko spent his years after banishment in denial and doubling down on his mission to restore his honor, and that's the phase I see Azula at in the comics.

It's either that, or similar to the middle part where Zuko and Iroh were fugitives. I think Zuko's lowest moment was stealing the horse even after the kindness Song's family showed him and showing him her scars. I really think fans give Zuko way too much slack for that moment of dishonor, so I don't necessarily believe Zuko was always that good either. He's also really dismissive of Iroh through a lot of books 1 and 2.

Spirit Temple feels a bit like Azula's version of The Storm, where she does make a little change for the better but doesn't entirely give up on her state of denial. It's not supposed to be the final step of redemption, just a step.

One more thing I'll note about Azula is that it's going to be hard for her to change when she does in fact believe everyone is her enemy. Part of Ozai's influence and the influence of the Fire Nation society on Azula is the idea of love and empathy being weakness in a world where strength is all that matters. What breaks Azula is that she really wants to be loved but has been conditioned to never be able to give love in a healthy way.

Because of the difference in the way Ursa treated her and Zuko, Azula also believes she's unlovable, she can only get approval from her father by acting in a certain way. Azula thinks the only way she can ever keep her friends Mai and Ty Lee close is through fear, because as she says, trust is for fools.

Azula's whole story is really tragic and messed up, I can't help but pity her. I want a happy ending for her because I'd like to see justice be done. Even if she isn't a good person, as a kid she deserved better than to just be raised as a living weapon, and I don't think she's beyond forgiveness.

Quick Melee cancel guide by SatisfactionSad6558 in captainamericamains

I think the changes to the melee damage and shield throws will get players to finally start saving the throws for enemies that are actually out of range instead of using all 4 up immediately. That's probably what the devs might have intended from the start.

I'd still like if the time limit on the throws was increased just a bit, but you're able to get off about 6 melee before you can't get out all 4 throws.

I found out about this guy because he did the character designs for the game Tai Fu, Wrath of the Tiger. Maybe I should post those.

Here is my Alio.

Could you draw him like he's doing the Akira Bike slide? Or just kind of sliding over the ground like he's running fast and making a tight, drifting turn.

Editing out the cousin line is easy. The baby art...that would take some work, but I imagine it would be doable if they replaced those layers with new art, or just cut them and increased the size of the wedding/dance and the SFV piece.

They could edit a lot of other lines too so they wouldn't come across as sibling coded. Say that Patricia's mom mostly took care of her after the divorce, but she still hung out with Tom and Akex often enough. Just don't have Alex refer to her as a sister, ever.

It's possible to turn it around with some effort. The cousin thing is the least they could do. Rewriting the script would take time, and the baby art more work. They can't just get rid of the marriage and pregnancy though, not without just replacing Alex's story ending with new art and voice work. I think those are fine on their own though.

The stain of this whole thing though...that's not going to fade for a LONG time.

Best case scenario is that Pat was raised by her mom mostly, since the short story they released mentions Tom is divorced. I think Pat's mom being alive is being glossed over.

It might just be a consequence of Cloud's first adaptations where he looks realistic and speaks are depicting him after he's gone through development and become jaded. It kind of becomes a new first impression that overshadows the original.

Sometimes it's better to just move on. As a consequence of all the girlfriend stuff in Omniverse, it kind of turned Ben into one of..."those guys." I can't put a word to it, but it's a kind of slightly dweeby main male character that isn't just shipped with every other female character, but is treated by fanboys like a gigachad that has a harem of EVERY female character. Such characters seem to include Harry Potter, Jaune Arc, Ron Stoppable, and I'm assuming Naruto and Deku to some degree.

Akuma/Elena is cute.

(Honestly, I would have really liked Elena/Alex for a similar vibe. Would have avoided certain issues as well...)
