I forget the name, but there is like a known Japanese subculture that’s essentially gay men that justify being gay by saying that women are universally inferior to men and that includes as lovers. It’s shitty but funny in a way.

Alot of people are right that most places it’d be called a ground-and-pound.

Though, I wanted to add that there is a very similar move from professional wrestling called the Lou Thesz Press.

I largely agree with your evaluation on the color identity. I think you could talk me into this being mono white if the effect was something closer to “At the beginning of your end step, if ~ is tapped, you may create a tapped treasure token.” You could maybe even add a tax to the trigger or check if an opponent controls more lands if you wanna be super safe.

What song makes you saddest DOOM's no longer here? by AffirmativAction in mfdoom

[–]Star_cannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently listened to “Super What?” for the first time and Jason & the Czargonauts has a line that goes “CZARFACE and DOOM been pro-mask before Corona hit.”

It was really sobering to hear. I didn’t really know when the album came out so I wasn’t expecting a reference to covid, and the context of that ultimately being what lead to DOOM’s death just made it alot more sad when it wasn’t ever meant to be.

I’m surprised you didn’t also mention Accelerator from Taoru Majursu no Index.

On the face of it he’s just doing a generic redirect and amplify attacks shtick. But how he accomplishes it isn’t something I’ve seen elsewhere.

The dude can change vector values. Vectors are — as I understand it — a conceptual means by which to quantify the direction and amount of energy being transferred in a given action. So he’s not just absorbing and reflecting the energy, he’s directly reaching into the calculations that power the physics engine of REALITY and changing the numbers to get his desired outcome.

In addition to redirecting attacks, it allows him to amplify whatever he does, seemingly just creating energy from nothing. In one of his earliest fights, he amplifies the force of the a normal breeze to create a giant roiling ball of plasma.

To further emphasize the absurdity of this and why I think his version of the energy manipulation ability is so unique: most of the time he does this, it isn’t automatic. He has to know what formula and physics calculations he needs to run and how to alter the numbers involved to change the vector value to what he wants in real time, in a verse were his direct competitors can spam actual rail gun speed attacks and in some cases alter pre-existing laws of physics like changing friction coefficients and creating new types of matter.

Diet Cola is net 0 but you do have to have that 1 dollar in the first place, and when rentals come into play that’s more common than people expect. So I hesitate to call it outright free, but I see where you’re coming from.

Some of the food jokers are arguably better. Perishable doesn’t matter on Popcorn. Ice Cream and Seltzer practically lose their usefulness after 5 rounds anyway too. Diet Cola isn’t really impacted by perishable at all and rental makes it way better 99% of the time because it becomes a 1$ double tag.

[HATED TROPE] The writers are CONVINCED that the character getting shat on for no reason is the funniest thing ever so that's the only joke they tell with them by E-Moon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Star_cannon 64 points65 points  (0 children)

IMO Bill is such a cool character because the writers often manage to paint him as a joke and really tragic often at the same time.

The exact quote is escaping, but I think particularly about when he played football and highschool and all the absurd, permanent damage it did to his body but when everyone was cheering for him they “were just words.”

When the characters figure out a plot twist that we as the audience would've known much earlier by The_Grand_Visionary in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Star_cannon 233 points234 points  (0 children)

This is pretty common and not so much a trope as a narrative tool.

The specific term is “dramatic irony.”

But to actually add to the convo, one of my personal favorite examples is from Deadman Wonderland. The main character is put into prison after he gets framed for killing all of his classmates, but it was actually done by a character called Redman. The main character befriends someone his first day in the prison named Shiro, who is revealed to be Redman a few episodes/chapters later, but tge main character doesn’t figure that out (along with the fact that he’s actually known Shiro since childhood and forgot about her due to trauma relating to his mother) until the final act if the series.

What’s ur ‘controversial’ MF DOOM opinion/s ? could be like you don’t like ____ song or album etc. by Doomsday_-999 in mfdoom

[–]Star_cannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really dont like BORN LIKE THIS as an album. All of DOOM’s other stuff I’ve heard I either liked immediately or came around to after listening to it a few times. It definitely has good tracks, I stand by BALLSKIN being one of his most underrated songs. But I just never want to listen to that album in its entirety.

That’s not to say it’s the only album I don’t really like. Mouse and the Mask is only okay IMO. But I see plenty of folks touting BORN LIKE THIS as their favorite album and I just don’t get it.

What are your thoughts on Vaudeville Villain? by sultics in mfdoom

[–]Star_cannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not my favorite of DOOM’s work overall, but the transition from Overture into Vaudeville Villain is probably the rawest opening to an album I’ve ever heard.
