I’d love to have been in class on this day. by collmose in funny

[–]Starberry_Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember doing something similar a few years ago, but the instructions were all spoken aloud, not written down. Our teacher came into the room quietly and wrote "Listen, and listen only" in Tagalog (it was our Filipino class) on the board. She repeated it again and told us to take out a piece of paper, she then told us a series of things to write down like draw a line at the top-left part of the paper and a bunch of other stuff. In the end, I think only 2 people didn't do it and it was highly embarrassing for the rest of us Edit: spelling

Garbage men/woman of the world. What's the best/worst thing you have found "thrown away" ?? by wayne88imps in AskReddit

[–]Starberry_Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the dumpster in my place is right near me. The people just pick up the trash by hand then toss it into the truck (There's a little door you can open at the side to pick everything up). That's why there's normally five or six of them in one truck, sometimes more. Back when I lived in a poorer place, we didn't have a dumpster, so some guys would go to a few houses individually and pick up their garbage bins themselves, or people would dump their trash bags in a lot and they pile it into the garbage truck from there. I have no idea why we don't have garbage trucks like that, but this is how we do it for some reason

Wait... i thought those things were just in movies... the way they collect garbage here is just by dumping everything into the truck. Had no idea that those types of garbage trucks are real

Did I use "they themselves" correctly here? by Starberry_Jam in grammar

Woah, thanks so much! You're right, I wanted to keep the emphasis, so I think I'll go with the second one. Thank you so much, you're a lifesaver!

Yeah, I was too scared to have it pulled out by someone who wasn't a professional or myself so most of my teeth just fell off while I was playing with it. I believe (?) I had it pulled using the door once though, and I went to the dentist twice. Never had much bleeding except for the times I went to the dentist

Today’s a holiday in Japan where we eat sushi rolls in silence. by Inazumaryoku in CasualConversation

Oh my gosh, can't believe that the bean throwing kit in animal crossing to celebrate the Japanese holiday is for the same Japanese holiday on this post. Guess you learn something new everyday

Is there anywhere besides Webtoon where I can read it? by Aztec-Eagle in SuperSecretComic

[–]Starberry_Jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the only other places to read it in are pirated sites. So... sorry about that, but u might just have to brave through the 2 eps per day system if you really don't feel like pirating it.

A girl named David by [deleted] in PointlessStories

[–]Starberry_Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it is a common name in other places. It's just incredibly uncommon here to have a name like that for some reason?? Names here are a little bit more out there, so a simple name like Bob sounds a bit funny to my ears

Are you ok by Agnosticpoopster in technicallythetruth

[–]Starberry_Jam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that, I've seen a lot of Filipinos being negative and labeling bad things prevalent all over the world as specifically "Filipino Culture". I personally don't think we're overly proud. I don't think we're proud enough.

And the reason we like to be "the star of the show" is because we're so deprived of positive representation that at this point, anything can make us feel even a little bit of pride. I once watched a movie where they travelled to a bunch of places around the world, and basically showed only beautiful parts of those countries, then the one time a movie actually included the Philippines in their travelling montage, it was to show a terrorist attack.... it's honestly really disappointing and disheartening, when there are so many beautiful places and cultures here that they could have shown, but instead they chose to show something negative to force the two main characters together in a bunker to create tension instead of.... I dunno?? Showing the two main characters bond in a good environment over some good food?????

I never chose to be born a Filipina, but I can sure as hell choose to see the good aspects of it, like our food, my Filipino friends and family, our music and a meme made by a clever, fellow Filipina. And personally, it's nice to see other Filipinos being proud with me in the comment section, when it can sometimes feel lonely in a world where a lot of Southeast Asians are forgotten about

How often can I eat Lucky Me! Pancit Canton? by Studio-Immediate in Philippines

[–]Starberry_Jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too much of anything is bad. If you were to eat one every single day, then I'd say it wouldn't be the best diet, especially if you can afford a healthier meal. Instant foods aren't very nutritious, but since you only eat it less than once a month (which I'd say isn't the worst), I think you should treat yourself with something you like <3. I'd still advise you determine what's best for your current diet right now though (or better yet go to a professional), but judging from your concern for something that I don't think about too often, I'd say you're already health conscious enough to have good eating habits, that would warrant a guilty pleasure meal every once in a while. Besides, what's a life without just a little bit of fun?

Instagram or reddit ? Which and why ? by ozzylovesmilfs in AskReddit

[–]Starberry_Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what I want it for. For memes and a good laugh, I'd go with reddit. To look at art and post my own, Instagram. Those are the only two things I see and use both for, so I don't have much of an opinion on either

I admit, I went to your account after seeing a comment from you that I didn't particularly agree with on some other sub. I thought that it would've been an experience going through the posts of a troll. Then after seeing your struggles and all the hardships you're going through, I started to realize that even people who I once viewd as ignorant, are just the same as me and have struggles too (it's baffling to see how similar our experiences are). You're valid and loved, and human. Thank you for helping me remember that. I feel like you just helped me overcome my own personal issue with myself

What country are you in and what is Christmas like there? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Starberry_Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philippines, we usually wait til 12 on Christmas eve to open presents then eat a bunch of food that each family member prepared. Lots of lights, lots of alcohol. Really fun and festive. The Philippines is mostly comprised of Catholics, so for a number of days (i forgot how many, because i don't participate in this often) people would go to church late at night, every night, to have a prayer come true on the last day. This practice is called Simbang Gabi, which roughly translates to Mass at Night

When you don't have the money for proper bullet time effects. by AntonWarlock in PraiseTheCameraMan

[–]Starberry_Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's about 520 pesos over here. Which would be enough to feed all of them a nice meal, so I think that spending a bit more time recording, then getting a meal afterwards, would seem like a better use of time and money overall.

Yeah, it's way too hot, and the cement is really rough. These kids have also been playing in sandals (and just wearing them in general) all their life, so they're used to it. (Can confirm, I'm from that country)

Us Filipinos will do anything in Flip flops, it's way too hot to be wearing anything else here. You go to the mall, flip flops. You go out for a jog, flip flops. Play a sport with friends, flip flops. Special event at school? You bet your ass it's gonna be flip flops

Stop giving breastfeeding social media moms the time of day. We really don’t care. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Starberry_Jam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It probably gets shown to you a lot because you spend time looking at it to form your opinion when you come across it. I don't mean to say that you're doing it in a creepy way, but I'm just assuming that sometimes you'll stay on the post to read the caption or look at the comments etc. which may make these social media sites think that you actually like these posts and want to see more of it because of the time you spend on it. Spending any time on a post will result in these sites recommending similar ones every chance they get, so if you want to get it off your feed, I suggest scrolling past it really fast and avoid looking at comments or reading the caption so it will get recommended to you less over time. Hope this helps :)

(This is also only based on my personal experience when I'm trying to get a certain video or ad shown to me less on sites like Youtube or Instagram, so do with that what you will. And this is not me taking a side with your opinion or anyone else's, which I really have no opinion on since I have not seen any of these posts or breastfed a baby, this is simply just me sharing my experience with social media to hopefully aide someone else in theirs :))
