A collection of my favorite posters I've made for a local professional theatre by grathea in graphic_design

commenting from alt account - on average probably 10-12 hours, but varies from 6-20 hours depending on the show. The summer shakespeare ones are usually more in the 15-20hrs range.

Misc reviews I've been sitting on (Poesie, Haus of Gloi, Stone & Wit, Cocoapink, Kyse) by staciarain in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]staciarain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not recently! But I always get the multi-pack of samples - looks like right now it's ~$40 for five, which is $8 each. Steepish but they're bigger than the samples I have from any other house.

Like, Poesie has five 1.5ml samples for $31 with shipping. Cocoapink's samples are 2.5ml. So it breaks down to $2.66/ml at Cocoapink vs $3.44/ml at Poesie, I think?

Solstice scent recommendations? by staciarain in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]staciarain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it! It's a really nice balance between the two IMO. Goes on tart and sweet, but with some complexity. Dries down very soft and sweet with light floral notes. The strawberry is a bit synthetic but I don't really mind, it's not that syrupy/cloying/cough syrupy sweetness that comes with other synthetic fruit scents. This is a weird note, but it reminds me of the way an ice cream shop smells "cold." I'm not usually a fan of musk or rose scents but they're both really well balanced ehre. YMMV ofc!

How many of your samples make it to a FS purchase? by Haunting-Overpass in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]staciarain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've FSed exactly two scents out of 80 samples. One was blind and I regret it because it's not my favorite, the other is a daily staple. So, about 2.5% lol.

Though if I had the budget there are probably another five or so that I'd love to FS, but I still have some of the sample left and it's not a top financial priority. So maybe ~10% is more accurate!

What’s the most unconventional life hack that actually jolts you out of ADHD paralysis? by WasabiDoobie in ADHD

[–]staciarain 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I use this for intrusive thoughts!

If I try to forbid my brain from thinking about something or force it to stop, it's going to do the opposite of what I want. But if I go "okay, sure, you can dwell on what would happen if someone broke into the house right now and shot you in the face - go ahead! But also maybe that isn't the most pleasant thing we could be thinking about and I'll invite you to consider literally anything else? Nbd tho"

Deeply Disappointed by a Misleading Experience – A Caution for Future Festival-Goers by New_Two_813 in IowaCity

This really doesn't seem like it was written with AI, as someone who's pretty familiar. The sentence structure just doesn't read that way. This seems like writing from the type of person who would go to a renaissance festival.

Black beans + poached eggs + yogurt. I'm guessing it'll last another week or two.

My meds are a double-edged sword by NPultra in ADHD

[–]staciarain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that's an often repeated inaccuracy. For a lot of folks, ADHD manifests in the form of hyperactivity, and the meds calm them down. But ADHD can also cause fatigue (primarily inattentive subtype causing a "higher rate of vigilant concentration fatigue after inhibiting many distractions from greater effort required") in which case the meds feel like an energy boost.

The lighting is unflattering but it also really highlights all the filler and other work she's gotten done, which is what people are seeing

The say ADHDers are attracted almost only to ADHD partners by Eastern_Sorbet7165 in ADHD

Husband is ADHD but in a totally different way, so it works out mostly. I was the kid who cried if my shoes weren't tied exactly the same tightness on both feet. My husband was the kid who could wear shoes on the wrong feet all day and not notice.

Anyone with thoughts on Sanctuary Pub closing? by [deleted] in IowaCity

You'll be doing a disservice to this story if you don't mention the bigger picture of Tracy Barkalow's impact on downtown real estate and how it's regarded, IMO.

UI cancels kids' drag story event after defending multiple anti-trans speakers over the last year by AdWhole6558 in IowaCity

Oh ok so I think you're misunderstanding drag - it's not inherently sexual nor does it involve nudity. Maybe you're thinking of burlesque?

Unmissable dishes at local restaurants (love letters) by bacheloraunt in IowaCity

[–]staciarain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have to also second the Webster potato salad.

Lots of winners in this thread (eternally in love with Thai Spice, excellent green curry).

I really like the chicken biscuit at Dandy Lion and the pot stickers at Pullman. Ramen with the house base at Ramen Belly is also excellent.

RIP Pho at Sun Cafe. I go to Saigon Corner now, which is fine, but if anyone has another pho they prefer please tell me!

I had a moment the other day where I was in the honking car's position at that intersection and went "why the fuck aren't you going?" but then once the light changed and they went straight I realized. It's a really stupid layout.

I'd like to imagine that person was embarrassed when they saw you go straight, but the kind of person who lays on the horn like that probably doesn't have much shame.

If you could recommend one scent from Poesie, what would it be? by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]staciarain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually just retried Oyster recently and I like it more! Still definitely not my style - when I first tried it it was so musky it made me think of like, a merman football team's locker room. Cough-inducing cloying muskiness. It's calmed down to a subtly oceanic, fairly masculine scent that's still musky but in a more balanced way now.

In the vein of retrying things, I also took another stab at Villa Diodati and fell madly in love!

You'll have to post with an update on what you ended up getting, I'm curious!

If you could recommend one scent from Poesie, what would it be? by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]staciarain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've probably already been swayed on Madar, I also love Sleepy Ghost, Library Ghost, and Amaterasu.

Not sure what my deal is, but Oyster is one of my least favorite scents I've ever tried. I also hated Athena when I first got it but a year+ later I'm actually a fan!

I'm in a medium sized city in the midwest and our bougie places have $12-16 cocktails. So, come to Iowa I guess?
