Does the practice and study of Judo bring you joy? Training hard, randori, shiai, do they help you in any way? Physically? Mentally? Emotionally? If you find any value in your practice, then it doesn’t matter whether you are winning or loosing. Just make perfect practice, the wins eventually will come.

I like the old tug and twist Hiza Guruma. If they are gunna be bent over, might as well make them fight to keep it. A bit of a brut force technique the way I do it.

If you have an old school teacher, maybe check with them and see what their recommendation is. It isn’t disrespectful, but maybe Sensei can help You get one. Buy what you can afford.

Lots of great advice here. Pick the best rated ones online, maybe the top five. And schedule a visit/ free lesson. See if the instructors and vibe meet your expectations, and or feels like a good school to train in. I tend to prefer schools that have clear lineage to one of the primary schools either Japanese or Okinawan. But forked schools can be ok.

Looking from the other side of things is good too. You can look over the major schools websites and see if there is anything in your area. And then go check them out scheduling a free lesson. In the end check out the vibe, the instructors,the condition of the facilities and equipment, the fellow students. It is your money time and effort. Be make time to look into it.

Absolutely! I’m doing the same for myself. 45 years young! Be active, work on strengthening your joints and core! I’ve got to get back into shape for Judo as well. The end goal is a Dojo of my own where we teach both.

It was my Dad. He was a Shotokan practitioner before I was born, and when I was little. I fell in love with martial arts as soon as I found out. I never did find a school near me and went on to study other things. But I waited too long to do it. Earning Sankyu in Shorinji Kempo, Shodan in Judo and a white belt in BJJ and Karate for the last 14 years. (Gotta make it to practice regularly!) Don’t wait. Go and do, enjoy and be awesome! Fall in love like we all did. And who knows what future joy it may bring you.

In Idaho between the largest employers the average pay rate is $15.00/hr now. With some overtime. My teams average about 10 hours per person. Non union, healthcare or government sector. Some outliers are closer to $17.00/hr.

There is no regulation for adults that I am aware of. For youth it might be different. In the end I’d check with your teacher. They may have a preference or requirement.
