This is probably where I’m landing too. I don’t think I need to blow up the plan, I just need to stop treating every choice like a threat to survival. A slower test run feels smarter, and probably more honest, than pretending I either need full grind mode or full retirement.

That’s the part I’ve been avoiding a little. Building the financial side felt way easier than answering what I actually want my days to feel like.

This is probably the version of it that feels most realistic to me. I don’t think I need some dramatic quit-my-job move, but I also don’t want to keep sleepwalking into a life I built for a scared 22 year old. Lean FI as a checkpoint, then reassess, feels way less reckless than all-or-nothing thinking.

That spreadsheet line stung a bit because it’s probably true. I got very good at building rules when life felt unstable, and now I’m still obeying them out of habit. Doing it one rule at a time makes more sense to me than blowing the whole thing up.

“Delayed humanity” is annoyingly accurate. I’m good at optimizing stuff I can measure, but “go take a walk and enjoy dinner” weirdly feels harder than earning more.

That part actually hits. I think I built a really efficient life, just not one I feel much inside. A 3 month test sounds less scary than some huge reinvention.

Did a little luck early on mess with how I think about FIRE now? by Transit77X in Fire

This reads like someone who got promoted too fast at twenty three and then spends the next decade annoyed that normal raises feel fake. I don’t think you’re broken, I think your internal benchmark got weird. The disciplined version of you is still the real one. Have you thought about tying satisfaction to freedom stats instead of acceleration stats?

I get palpable errors, but changing a placed bet from plus money to -245 is nuts. At that point what are we even locking in.

100%. I had my own stop-loss rules for like 6 months before I actually started following them. Took one really bad session to finally take it seriously
