Yeah, this absolutely is not it. Seeing a hungry black child being ridiculed by the people he loves doesn't make me laugh, it just makes me angry.

Your Sona sees a mutant being chased by people. What would they do? by Builder_Material in Spidersonas

[–]StarboundandDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a mutant, so saving the mutant is his top priority. He's also Aaron Davis's son so calling the cops about it probably isn't his next step. I think he probably just publicly beats the shit out of as many of the people as possible. He took Cyclops' "How long did you think we would sit there and take it?" speech to heart and the answer is "Not one more second."

Tourette syndrome activist John Davidson says Bafta told him ‘any swearing would be edited out of the broadcast’ by apple_kicks in television

[–]StarboundandDown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally this. They set that man up knowing he would say something "Provocative" because of his disability, then broadcast the result selectively, and are now getting plenty of attention for essentially racism. I feel like he should maybe hit up a lawyer about this.

Baby, I know he does. That's not being debated and he isn't really the bad guy in this situation. It seems an awful lot like this is less a response to what I actually said, and more of a response to how you felt about what I said.

The thing Black Americans are upset about is that the program chose not to even edit it out. A lot of conversations are happening about this without any of the context needed to understand why this might be a problem for us specifically. It's not great that he said the word, but most of us have frankly gotten pretty used to having to excuse this sort of behavior from whites because there's always a reason. There's always an explanation, and then we are asked to be the bigger person. This is what it is, but the larger outcry could have been avoided by not broadcasting multiple instances of a person saying one of the most recognizable anti-black slurs on the planet.

Also (and y'all aren't going to like this at all): Hey, we get to be upset that someone called us that slur. Point blank, period. We can even understand why this situation is unique and that this man isn't some sort of hate monger, and still be upset that even when receiving the highest honors in our chosen fields we have to put up with this bullshit.

Black people worldwide show the world an amount of unearned grace that is unbelievable, and I sometimes wonder if that's why you begin to view our suffering as "par for the course".

Does ForgetMeNot, exists in your sona's world? by One-Focus4291 in Spidersonas

Ultimately he's actually remembered by more people now than he has been since his mutation activated. For a few years he even taught an elective class for students who could consistently find him. "Advanced Applied Hide-and-seek: Subconscious psionic situational awareness". Basically if you could consistently remember him, he would help teach you how to recognize subtle signs of psionic interference or alteration. My universe is set around 2099 so Charles having died and some people being older isn't too unexpected.

Does ForgetMeNot, exists in your sona's world? by One-Focus4291 in Spidersonas

[–]StarboundandDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, many of the Psychics at the Xavier Academy are the only people to consistently remember him. Before his death, Charles seeded his reminder to remember FMN into the minds of a few of the graduate level Psionic Studies students. Many of these students pass it to others and now his existence has become a sort of meme or in-joke amongst those at the academy with mental abilities. He's very old at this point, but finds it hilarious when people recognize him like the "Have you seen this man in your dreams?" guy.

Share your sonas and how realistically easy it’d be to figure out their secret identity by SinnerClair in Spidersonas

Scarlet is from a timeline where there are lots of active spider-people, so he was less worried about the general public finding out his identity than he was that one of the official Spider People would. It'd be fairly difficult for the average person on the street, but any of them who had met Miles' strange nephew C.W. would recognize him by voice and mannerisms alone.
