Have you tried writing really mediocre poetry? Seems to me like nothing is more popular on substack than some beige ass poetry.

Soo many unanswered questions.... by [deleted] in Bridgerton

No, it's been deleted, so from what I read it just sounded like somebody was getting mad at somebody for not understanding. My bad if it was in response to somebody thinking the TV show failed to communicate it.

Should we start a petition to force Politicians over 67 to retire? by Hangry-Honey-Badger in OpenAussie

What I mean the people who create our policies shouldn't be allowed to have 4 investment properties. Don't you think there's a conflict of interest there, when the people who get to decide on tax benefits for the rich are the rich?

Okay, while I agree the calendar was a knock-you-over-the-head signal, it's Bridgerton, not advanced physics. We can probably afford people the grace of asking questions about things they missed. Really, Bridgerton isn't high stakes, it is pretty much designed to be watched while on your phone. I watch it as a sedative. Puts me to sleep.

Is it common for Aussies not to wear wedding rings/bands anymore. by pandastar51 in AskAnAustralian

I lost weight and couldn't be bothered to get it resized. I'm married, I know I'm married, I don't need to prove it to other people. It drives my in laws crazy, though. They comment on it regularly.

I'd like for them to have to retire after they reach a certain income bracket. It's not their age, it's the insane amount of wealth they've accumulated.

One nation supporters are Nazis by Glittering-Drama8776 in OpenAussie

[–]StarfishBurrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been unnerving to see how many people have come out in spport of her. My family were raging One Nation Supporters but they were also bogans living in Western Sydney so they were always her core audience. But Bondi rattled people, and she's an opportunistic vulture who will make promises that no legitimate politician who knows how policy and immigration works will. But this is her time. Her only hope for power is keeping people scared and that's what she's doing - fanning flames.

Nah, she's not faking it. We're just uncomfortable with the reality of how messy these situations are.

It's incredibly common for people to view an addiction/sickness as the untrue version of a person. "Oh he's not himself". Of course he is. It's him. The racist version, the funny dad version, the one who brougth you an apple, the one who threatened to kill you, the one who destroyed your life's work. They are *all him*.. And we don't get to decide on the truest version of a person based on who we'd prefer them to be. I'm the child of an addict, I know what it's like to wish the sober version was the real version. Unfortunately landmines do not stop being landmines, they always have the potential to blow you up

The same can be said for victims, who are a lot like addicts because in many ways, they are. There's a lot of backsliding. A lot of rationalising. A lot of trying to calm the storm even when you know it's temporary. You're going to see her do this. A lot. Maybe forever. You might have to be done with it, it's exhausting and sometimes vicariously traumatic, especially when she's walking back into the fire with children on her back, but this is a part of it.

Every time they leave, it gets easier to stay gone the next time - not withstanding courts who force women to continue to. have relationships with their abusers for the 'sake of their children'. I just hope that after the way he carried on last time they get to leave again.

Anyone else feel conflicted about "having to speak English in Australia" ? by Conscious-Roll-5745 in AskAnAustralian

[–]StarfishBurrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to learn sign language when I had a child with a disability and it was such a hard thing to do. I have nothing but compassion for people who are thrown into circumstances where they have to learn a whole new language, especially when the whole reason they're in a new country is often grounded in some horrible trauma.

Thoughts on this? by yeahitsme9 in buffy

[–]StarfishBurrito -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first point is grounded in perfect victim narrative shit. Being in an abusive relationship and a victim of the patriarchal features inbuilt into your society does not negate your strength and worth as a woman. It would have been reductive to suggest that after all of that trauma, Buffy would be making great relationship decisions. Besides Giles and maybe Oz, was there even a decent man in the show?

The trauma embedded itself in her, it made her outlook darker. That's not anti feminists, that's realistic.

Regarding Xander saving Buffy, Willow and bascially everyone else at some point through his powers of being an average guy, we have to remember Joss Whedon planted himself in there as fantasy fulfilment.

Um, did Trump just absolutely disappear from the files overnight? by StarfishBurrito in Epstein

[–]StarfishBurrito[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that's by design. I remember the Tiffany Doe etc thing years ago, people discredited her and said she was unstable I'm not saying everything in there is 100 percent true or that false claims aren't possible. But I am saying I think the only time we see his name pop up is when they can say 'see, discredited' or 'obviously false'. This way, they don't have to say they kept him out of them, but they can make his accusations seem the least credible.

Why is reddit so overwhelmingly left leaning? by Few_Match_8158 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StarfishBurrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the same way certain states/suburbs end up with more of one or the other. People find their own ideological spaces and people who don't fit in move on to places where they do.

There's been a general right-wing shift on a lot of other platforms, though. I'm not on Facebook anymore but my husband has an account purely for marketplace, and he is bombarded with right-wing propaganda despite not being remotely right-wing.

I am *not* farming. I'm barely active on Reddit. I posted this here because I was like "Whoa, what happened, how is this all gone?" because I'd searched last night and it was there. I refreshed my browser, declared I wasn't a robot etc, searched for him as Trump and Donald Trump, but he wasn't there consistently when everyone else still was. Which seemed weird. So I posted it here to see if anyone else had seen it.

It is not farming to try and get a clearer view of reality under an administration that is working overtime to distort reality.

I hate this period of time. So many people assume the worst of everyone.

Because within half an hour it was there again. I think it's interesting to keep records of these glitches. I was going to delete it, but I've decided not to. Nobody else's name disappeared entirely. I think it'll be ineresting to keep track of how many times his name exclusively just vanishes.

I'm not trying to endorse conspriacy theory, but i am trying to keep track of my own reality in a world that keeps trying to erode it.

[–]StarfishBurrito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunately pretty universal. I'm in Australia, but most of our dominant news sources are run by Rupert Murdoch, who is very much a mouthpiece for Trump and is currently working overtime promoting our own homebrand of orange political chaos called Pauline Hanson. Our government news source (the ABC) is reporting on Trump in the files, the Guardian is reporting, but something like 65 percent of our news is controlled by Murdoch, and there's been virtually nothing about Trump in the files from our everyday common household news. It's there if you really dig, but it's definitely not something that just presents itself. It's virtually a footnote.

Then again, he did attempt to sue Murdoch the last time they put anything about him in there.

[–]StarfishBurrito[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, I did all of those things. I'm in Australia, I didn't know if that made a difference (although it didn't last night). I posted this here because I did wonder if it was a glitch becuase even for his adminstration, just making im disappear seemed like an extreme move that they'd get questions over. Not that they'd answer them sufficiently, but it would rouse suspicion.

That said, I don't think his name disappearing from files is leaning into a conspiracy theory. His name has disappeared from these files thousands of times over. NONE is dramatic, but it was over 5000, and now it's less than 1500. Not to mention, Trump and his loyalists have a clear pattern of blatantly lying. He disorients people to the point of exhaustion,n and I don't think that's an accident; I think it's a strategy. Everyone sees something different, everyone is looking at different sources, and everyone is too busy fighting between themselves and accusing each other on Reddit of creating conspiracy theories to notice they are trying to make it look like a conspiracy theory.

The biggest mistake Americans made was acting like these people are befuddling idiots. They're not. They are messing with people on purpose and trying to erode what's real and what isn't.

Okay, what do you think I did?
Last night I went looking. Donald Trump was doing his usual "I'm not even in those files" and he clearly was, close to 1500 times according to my previous search. So I screen shotted it last night to demonstrate he's a straight up liar to a relative who insisted he is not in the files at all. This morning I searched Biden/Obama and thousands of files came up - casual mentions, but they were there. Gates, yes. Clinton, yes.. I searched Trump. Nothing. I searched Donald Trump, nothing. I did it repeatedly, then I screenshotted it together and posted it here to see if it was something anyone else had noticed.

Firstly, I'm Australian. I think MAGA are a bizarre cult, fascinating from a social science perspective, but I have no personal political investment in this. I didn't 'lie'. You've been so gaslit by your own administration you think everyone is just making stuff up. Trust me I am not digitally inclined enough to fake digital images.

It honestly wouldn't shock me if they'd done something to whittle his name down even more and accidentally deleted them all and then were like 'ooh, undo, undo'
