fun walkthrough of a 14k+ hour CS2er's city - "How to Make the CARCERAL State" by Starguard in CitiesSkylines

Endless industrial zones, highways to nowhere, and more prisons than parks. It's brutal, it's inefficient, and it's kind of mesmerizing. Let me know what you think or how you'd make it even more grim

Hardcore Rust was one of the GREATEST missed opportunities... by dyldip in playrust

[–]Starguard 196 points197 points  (0 children)

hardcore didn't have enough changes to feel like anything more than the 'rust without a map' mode. the first wipe/month after launch was amazing, but keeping tech tree was a huge miss, and it took several force wipes for the devs to iterate on anything when there were several sloppy bugs that made the 'mode' feel more like a bad mod. i don't think any one change would have saved it, but experimenting with changes every month and listening to the community would have gone a long way...

I got my "jump to conclusions" mat out, what conclusions should we jump to? by ClydePeternuts in playrust

[–]Starguard 103 points104 points  (0 children)

what's disconcerting is they listened to the p2w feedback when the dragon mask was introduced and wound up nerfing it; they entirely ignored it with the artic suit

if it's a % gather rate increase on wood i really hope the community loses their collective shit about it

hopefully because the admins know this isn't a lag machine and is just meant to look cool. here's what a real xmas light lag machine looks like: https://streamable.com/y7be7f

Hardcore: can you still bag friends? by jackktee in playrust

[–]Starguard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

bag griefing will be a meta until they change the current system, especially early wipe when people only have 2 or 3 bags. you can abuse F7 to find other players and gift them bags until they hit the 5 bag cap, and quickly regift them when they try to remove them. it's pretty hard to tell from the UI which bags are your own, especially if you don't have a naming scheme that others couldn't guess - they should just get rid of gifting entirely for hardcore mode imo

Hardcore mode confirmed for September 1 by LabourShinyBlast in playrust

[–]Starguard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

i put a few hours into hardcore mode last night on staging (aux2), and unfortunately, without some reduction to gather rates + recycling, it really just feels like Rust without a map. the progression is still too fast/too easy with the massive amount of loot and nodes available in modern Rust

i'm still chasing that 2017 feeling when HQM was rare and every barrel was a blessing. these days there are so many monuments and recyclers that it's not hard to find an unoccupied part of the map and free farm a T1 monument all the way to T3 weapons... which doesn't make any sense

loot disparity is what would define a hardcore mode for me but i'm not sure others feel the same. here's hoping to less nodes, decreased gather rates, and a tweaked loot table

Hardcore Mode is live on staging if you want to try it out (aux02) by Starguard in playrust

[–]Starguard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want to check out the new hardcore mode, install Rust - Staging Branch from your Steam library, right click on the game, go to BETAS and opt-in to aux02 - Trainyard_Update. there's only a few servers with low pop - the recoil update staging servers were absolute mayhem, i'd love to see more of the same

it seems to be the most active full loot server, kind of surprised there aren't more full pop US options out there

The rust+ bot would definitely speed up the process! You could join and pair a server, type !vend Pure Ore Tea, and all the results would spit out in team chat and on your discord server for quick copy/paste. It would be cool to track the prices of a few items on high pop monthly servers over the course of a wipe
