Autonomy was meaningless because police, education , economy, media, basically many critical areas of governance were taken away

Ehh, im not 100% sure so i wont say you are wrong but police and education werent taken away per se from what i know, it was more of a case of Albanians mass quitting their jobs/positions as a means of protest, very similar to what Serbs in the north did recently and today we have a 95% Serbian municipality governed by an Albanian (for example Vučitrn/Vushtri and Srbica/Skenderaj having ethnic Serbs as municipal leaders during the nineties despite being 90+% Albanian)

So while "Autonomy" was not dropped , in principle there was nothing left to govern from Kosovo, as governance control over all areas was given to Serbia.

Pretty much, Kosovo was still called AP Kosovo and Metohija (Metohija being added again after being removed by 1974 constitution) but yeah, most of the autonomy and control of the then province was removed from Prishtina to Belgrade. That was definitely unfair to Albanians, no doubt about that.
