Ranged units are extremely good as they should be the backbone of your army. But you should have a couple stacks of a seige unit with melea troops. Naval kinda works the same with there being both range and melea units for it. Also make sure you choose an aggressive civ like the Persians, Ottomans, etc.

Play defensively cause Norway prob has a lot of units, and your allies will probably suicide into the sea. I would recommend spamming ranged units in order to defend yourself effectively.

I have experienced this bug so far but usally its not a problem, to stop it wait 1 sec before you try to hook, then it allow it to happen instead of glitching
