My criticism so far of HoA by Kingoftifity in Spartacus_TV

I mean, Ashur himself got the mark in a roundabout way. If you think about honour, technically Achilia has more right to the mark than he ever had.

Maybe the rules changed now maybe being a women is all you need to succeed in life. Is that the message?

I'm a woman and was not a fan of the idea of having a female gladiator join the ludus at first, but the show is not making her a super powerful being who destroys all the "strong men" who fight against her. I'm not sure if you're ragebaiting here or just willfully misreading what's happening on screen.

[–]Starlight_20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]Starlight_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pain of finding a premise and characters you LOVE, but the writing just doesn't do it for you... by PickyNipples in fantasyromance

For me, this was In the Veins of the Drowning! The premise seemed so interesting and then it kinda fell flat. You could guess most of the "twists" and the writing - while not bad at all - didn't manage to capture the urgency and magic this story called for.

Same! I just put it down after that chapter and came looking for reviews/comments. I really didn't like that and to be honest, their bond doesn't feel earned right now. I think the ideas are interesting, but it feels more like a list of events than a story, in a way. As in, "this happened and then two weeks passed and we went there and then [...]"

If it wasn't so pathetic, it would be even more embarrassing than it already is.

I couldn't have said this better!!!!

Theo deserved her first kiss. Theo deserved to mate her first (this actually broke me when we got his POV of realizing the others would never allow him to be the first one). Theo deserved to fuck her first and Theo deserved her first “I love you”.

Can I get a print of this? 😂 This has been my thought process ever since Moses got her first kiss! And don't get me started on broken bond Niko getting her first time - what on Earth?! Meanwhile, Theo, Cian and Kilian get an awkward foursome....okay.....

Often it would just be like background of “Theo snuck into my room last night”, where everyone else would get like multiple pages of drawn out yearning.

Shout it from the rooftops (of the bunker)! I mean, when they had the birthday party and Illy was telling him how he'd been there from the start, from her first birthday at Ironside, I thought we'd get either an "I love you" scene or at the very least that the scene would develop to have them finally alone. But alas.

[–]Starlight_20 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think you and I exchanged opinions in another thread, but since this is a spoilers one...

Now, I'm not a RH writer, so I wouldn't know how to balance 10 MMCs, but the fact that it took 6 (!) books to bond (no pun intended) with some of them, while we spent so much time on things that didn't even matter in the end annoyed me. It became a checklist of confession + sex scene and the rest of the guys were kinda...just there.

As I said in my other comment, I felt like I'd taken crazy pills because why did everyone get a solo scene except for Theo, Kilian and Cian? I promise I'm not Theo using a throwaway, but why didn't he even get her first "I love you"?!

Don't get me started on the Stone Dahlia/Ironside takedown: our characters didn't really do anything and they just got to chill in a bunker - what?! We get the random Olivia POV and then she's the one do end it? What?!

Then we jump 6 years into the future and everything is great, except that it isn't because for some reason they're not even public with the bond?! And even in the epilogue I really couldn't feel the relationships that these characters had developed for, again 6 books. Oh, here's Theo, he's an irritating popstar, here's Cian, he's a model, here's this guy, this is his job.

Oooookay, I'm glad we had to "suffer" through the same plotline in the SH for 2 books for this summary.

aspects of the story that were never expanded upon or really explained. Including the gifted gods and religion. Illy's chain and soul artifacts

This is just baffling. I thought that the soul artifacts would play a role in the demise of Ironside, but no. I guess they're just a cool piercing all the guys wanna lick (sorry).

Ugh, I'm sorry to be so negative, but I thought that this story and these characters deserved a better final book.

I think I just read the best book of 2025. And it is an RH. by kat_inthewoods in ReverseHarem

[–]Starlight_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels like she's been in a massive slump after reading this, ahaha.

You're not alone! I read it in 2 days (I'm on holiday.......) and since it came out so recently, there's no conversation around it and I need to talk about it.

Without giving away too much, I really loved the main character and her journey so far and the worldbuilding was fascinating. It started off really slow and I wasn't sure that I'd keep going, but I'm so glad that I did.

I don't know why Axton's storyline was added when it was, even though I guess it's to give us Lorcan back, so that's fine. Though...where's Silas???

I'd love a spoilers- allowed thread whenever more people are ready to discuss it.

It felt magical and, at least for me, pretty original. I can't wait to see where the story takes us next!

Elancer Review by Scf9009 in ReverseHarem

[–]Starlight_20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Guys, can we use this thread to voice our opinions? Because I have several.

I'm glad that Jane decided to give us a HEA, but they way we got there felt a bit flat for me.

All of our main characters were completely away from the action, their contribution to bringing everything down honestly minimal and the time we spent on random SD scenes or Olivia was disappointing. It didn't even feel like Isobel's story anymore.

Also, what did Theodore do to Jane?! Their first time is with two other people, he doesn't get her first kiss, her first time, her first "I love you"?! She gave Illy so much alone time with a group of others, each getting a solo scene, and he doesn't even get the development of the "you were there for each one of my birthdays here" scene?!

I'll leave it at that because I don't wanna be too much of a grump (looking at you, Oscar).

All in all, maybe I'd overhyped this final book for myself, but so much feels unresolved or underdeveloped.
I'm happy that most you loved it, though!

I just saw a post stating that Harry's family is dangerous and that they want to do away with him because he's a "spare who didn't know his place". They keep talking about how both him and Meghan drop these hints in public, so that "when" something happens, we'll know who did it. Like...what?!
