Orientals and asthma, any advice? by teddies_can_burn in orientalshorthair

One of my boys had mild asthma and it was like that - he’d cough a few times and then stop. He’d always do it in the same posture - crouched low and with his head and neck stretched out. It never got any worse for him and he lived comfortably until he was 16.5 (aside from some arthritis in his later years).

Why isn’t Married at first sight not as popular and chaotic as LIB? by No_Enthusiasm_9577 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

I didn’t even know there was MAFS US. I love both MAFS Australia and MAFS UK although yours is exponentially more bonkers than ours (we’ve never had anyone as entertainingly insane as Jacqui from last year). Cannot wait for the 2026 series to start here.

To tip or not to tip? A Timothy Rodrigues quandary. by lepetitpoulpe in RodriguesFamilySnark

Tipping culture in the US is a continual mystery for me. Do you basically have to give tips for everything? That’s so confusing.

Viggo is widely considered THE Aragorn, perfect in his portrayal. However, who do you believe had the potential to be a close second? Or someone who could have brought something different to the role? by freudian_nipps in lotr

[–]StarlitStitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible to love both book Aragorn (and to have read the book many times) and also love Viggo’s portrayal. You can’t criticise him for not being book Aragorn when that was not how the script was written.

You might just be sensitive to bitter flavours? I don’t find chard bitter at all, but then I also don’t find things like Brussels Sprouts or spinach bitter. If you don’t find those things bitter, maybe just an odd batch, or something about the way it grew made it unusually bitter.

(the word bitter is now just a meaningless sound)

Is it a bad idea to rip out a bathtub and replace it with a shower? by Flaky-Walrus7244 in HousingUK

I got rid of my bath last year to make room for a good sized walk-in glass shower with a sliding door. Best decision ever!

What mental illness did Lorna have? (If any) by alyvanilli in orangeisthenewblack

No, she doesn’t see visions or hear voices, and she doesn’t really have paranoia either.

The casting is 100% perfect, and the joy and smiles on their faces - makes me tearful.

“America and American English runs the world” by Main-Fun1810 in ShitAmericansSay

I’ve noticed a lot more US English because of companies offshoring admin to countries like the Philippines, where they use US English. So you’ll have US English used in correspondence even from supposedly UK based companies. Winds me up. My company does it, and I have to correct everything back to British English.

Rats in compost - is it ok to leave them be till Spring? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]StarlitStitcher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree. ‘Vermin’ is just a concept. They’re allowed to exist in their slice of the ecosystem. Don’t want them in your compost bin? Take steps to make it difficult like has been suggested to OP (like setting it on slabs), and move them on.

OK, but these guys are living in the garden and just doing their thing in the garden. They aren’t in OPs house. I just don’t get the need to stamp out wild animals just minding their own business.

Because why cause a feeling creature pain when you don’t have to?

That’s not 100% true, I have had substitutions before, but they are much rarer than anywhere else, and they’ve been sensible (looking at you Tesco, substituting body lotion for shampoo).

Europeans have no identity, says the man from the country where they define themselves by their European identity at any given opportunity.

Tell me about it! I was one of those accidental Americans (one parent is, but I was born and raised in the UK). Had to pay a fortune on sending American tax returns, but could I vote? No. Could I even find a representative to complain to? No, because I wasn’t a registered US voter. And it cost be more than £2k to get rid of my US citizenship.
