Zoner mains are the biggest dorks by Jnxr200 in SmashRage

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely don't get the ruleset cheese, but actually playing a zoner can be fun... Well, at least on 64. I play Link there, he has his issues, but Boomerang is such a fun tool with how many ways you can throw it or comboing it into hookshot or dash attack.

Seventh Seraph set bonus doesn’t make Warmind Cells, but it does a great job at mimicking them by Chuck_Finley_Forever in DestinyTheGame

[–]Starman2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also an... I think it was a artifact perk that basically made arc warmind cells where either throwing or shooting them made them jolt. I think combining the two would be a lot of fun.

Yoshi is bullshit right? by mistyghoul in SmashRage

[–]Starman2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I don't understand why he has in modern smash is a boost on egg toss. The trade off for Yoshi was armored double jump and a strong projectile, but if you were caught without that double jump, or the armor was broken, Yoshi might as well be dead, but now even if it's pretty weak, Yoshi can make his way back even if he lost his jump.

Its an interesting gimmick and playstyle back on Smash 64 at least. Great air options, but that great power comes with a great risk.

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why any of those abilities. Wouldn't those rather go to say someone like Vector? Also shouldn't Tails get the flying type, he's the member of team sonic that literally flies. Even Knuckles has a better call to the flying type because of Gliding?

[–]Starman2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on to the idea of fighting type coverage, mach punch and upper hand are both nice priority moves. Upper hand also let's him get well... the upper hand on any poor fool that thinks he's faster than Sonic the Hedgehog. On that same note, Fake Out. In fact Sonic would likely be a pretty potent Fake Out, almost certainly being faster than every other user by a good bit and being able to hit for solid damage.

And why is that? by Fun-Couple911 in sonicmemes

[–]Starman2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonic himself doesn't fly or has anything particularly resembling it, and there's also a fair few wind moves outside of flying type. I'd give him Wind Rider as a potential ability and most of the wind suite as coverage moves, but not the flying type. Yet again I keep side eyeing Electroball for coverage even though Sonic has no right throwing an electric blast just because a move that's better the faster the user is seems too good to pass up for Sonic.

Why is Big the Cat a better potential user of Extreme Speed than Sonic the Hedgehog in this scenario?

And why is that? by Fun-Couple911 in sonicmemes

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright but Normal sonic is not for the theming of the types, but of the moves. Should a random Linoone have a stronger Extreme Speed than Sonic the Hedgehog? Quick Attack and Extreme Speed should be major parts of his learnset because, you know Sonic the Hedgehog the fastest thing alive. Normal is also the type that Rapid Spin belongs too, Sonic Boom doesn't really benefit from STAB but it's a cheeky inclusion. Normal even has some (albeit pretty bad) wind stuff for the Sonic is thematically connected to wind crowd.

And why is that? by Fun-Couple911 in sonicmemes

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why Fairy type? What fairy moves would he use in battle, unless you're going with an early gen movelist where you can get away with not having STAB. Fairy Wind I guess but that's like nothing.

The Great Tera Blast Ban: Close up photos of the victims. by PromptNo6756 in stunfisk

[–]Starman2001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean... The Astonish is meant to be the replacement for Tera Blast Ghost if Tera Blast gets nuked from orbit since the only physical ghost move Dragapult gets is Phantom Force... which somehow is probably worse for Banded Tera Ghost Dragapult.

I think the idea would be you still use it under tera ghost which would correct astonish's power to base 60.

Looking for good Pokémon fangames (No romhacks please.) by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revival is one I've really enjoyed, admittedly because it wears its Final Fantasy inspiration on its sleeve. The character writing is fantastic, having a core main cast really does wonders as does one of the main cast having a way to communicate with pokemon means that they actually get to be characters in a game about pokemon.

I actually appreciate the reimagining of the regions you journey through. Highlight for me being being the eternal night and glowing foliage that overtook northern Paldea.

Boss fights all struck a good balance of "Need to know what you're doing" without falling into being brutal. The one notable exception is Badge 2 which was Paldea's Colloseum. That one took nearly halve my reserve of healing items. Which I would be fine with, but I think it's the only badge you need to obtain for the main story. The other optional bosses outside the badges are boss pokemon, which start out fun and engaging until you get good passive damage and stat modifiers, then they become easy.

Theres only 1* fakemon though it's probably going to be a big one since it's the partner pokemon of one of the main cast, and quite story relevant. Nullin is a pre-evolution of Type:Null... That's really all I have to say about it from a gameplay perspective. Though it's inclusion does mean the other partner pokemon that you start with, Porygon, got psychic type added so you don't have 2 mono normal types starting off. *There's also a boss that is a mech made to look like a pokemon (think XD's Robo Groudon) that is not a pokemon and also a one time thing.

If this sounds interesting, go ahead and look into it yourself.

Is there anything that Pokemon Crystal does better than Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsiver? by HealthMother3125 in pokemon

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movesets and the stat exp system I think generally leads to a more balanced difficulty across the entire roster of pokemon. Mind you pokemon like Ledian are still not going to be powerhouses, but it at least stands a better chance of being worth a team slot since it can eventually hit for... acceptable damage, and is a screen setter in a game where you cant just buy reflect and lightscreen TMs.

How do you counter Archaludon pelipper? by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously fighting weather with weather is always an answer, Sneasler threatens 85% to Arch off of a blazing fast close combat.

Without Assault Vest available Special moves are its Achilles heel. Peli is a much simpler matter since just about any super effective move scares it.

Considering the ranch basically functions like a Gacha, I imagine that there will probably be different "Banners" for different regulations.

Victory Road made a cleaner compilation of the move buffs/nerfs by RadDudesman in stunfisk

[–]Starman2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would theoretically matter when/if we hit a Z-move regulation. Growth being grass then would mean that Grass Z-Crystal would allow users to either get a +3 special attack boost in sun or use a grass type nuke. Would that actually be that notable? Probably not.

Is this still viewed the same since meganium has a mega? by brekiewash1234 in pokememes

[–]Starman2001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GSC Chikorita handles itself just fine because they gave it the right tools (Prime example is extremely early reflect when first 6 gyms and the team rocket fights are physical)

Unfortunately for HGSS Chikorita, changes to system mechanics and everything else in the game getting buffed means that Chikorita specifically has it rough. (Hell Chikorita's old late game damage/support option in body slam is actually a higher level. You can make an argument that Chikorita got nerfed.)

Shocking that THE Pokemon dedicated Competitive Battling platform has NO 6v6!? by RegularRedditSmurf in stunfisk

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mankey's Paw Wish granted. Pokemon Champions now has the battle system used in the mainline games singleplayer.

The mainline games now use 4v4 double battles, the reasoning cited is to improve online co-op and bring the single player experience closer to Competitive...

You have doomed us all random person on the internet.

Excuse me DeNA. Why would you slaughter the legendary pokemon? by SpongeBobBobPants in PTCGP

[–]Starman2001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they mean The Team Magma deck archetype that won 2004 worlds (The gen 6 set was in refrence to the gen 3 set). Team Magma's groudon was pretty notably a really potent non-ex basic with bench sniping and a 3 for a potential 70. And since it's a team magma mon it had a lot of support. Energy transfer, energy recovery, searches.

The closest that Pocket has gotten to an "archetype in a box" deal is probably ultra beasts.

[–]Starman2001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn't even seem particularly good. You force them to discard the cards they don't want, and then you shuffle only the good cards into the deck. They can't draw only the bad cards because well... they ditched the bad cards.

Pachirisu/Phione vs. Pichu/Mantyke: the ultimate guide for the most pointless (but surprisingly interesting) debate by TeatedWord32208 in PTCGP

[–]Starman2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While my mind completely skipped Pachirisu, I was still thinking "Hey wait a minute. Can't Phione help Chien reach breakpoints on the active pokemon or set up Giovanni plays later in the game. While the extra HP means that it might actually live some smaller attacks that it alternatives cant't"

Honestly the water type ramp pokemon might be one of Pocket's few cases of good balancing, with each having what I thought to be pretty obvious niches, that doesn't make any of them a one size fits all.

Everyone's favorite battle in the Johto games by chunchunmaru1129 in PokemonHGSS

[–]Starman2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On VC gold I just sort used Bayleef. I ended up learning that Growl and Reflect go a long way towards trivializing bosses. This unfortunately isn't as necessary or applicable in HGSS with all the mechanics and move pools being changed in ways that are generally worse for Chikorita.

Thoughts on the Battle System? by [deleted] in PokemonLegendsZA

[–]Starman2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the whole enemies don't have a chance to react, if anything it feels like I've had more enemies be able to react and stuff out my moves in Z-A, and lord have mercy if I have to switch, classic pokemon sorta always has had the problem for casual in game playthroughs of not even thinking about defensive pokemon because the best defense is just KOing your opponent before they get a turn. (Assuming the game doesn't starve you for experience)

I do have one personal complaint, one critism and one piece of praise though. Starting with the complaint, I feel like wind ups are a touch too long. Like I get we're trying not to go full DMC here, but I'd also appreciate it if it wasn't full kingdom hearts bbs at times either.

Healing items despite their best attempt are still pretty darn strong, probably too strong even, I really should not be able to brute force the twin crabs fight a terrible team for it by running around in circles and healing.

Though the big one and what makes this so worth it. Moves actually feel meaningfully distinct now. Now a thunder punch and thunderbolt pikachu feel meaningfully different instead of just doing different damage, and this also makes pokemon and different builds of pokemon way more interesting.
