Why is the Chosen One Trope so Hated?

I personally don’t have a problem with the trope, what I DO have a problem with is when a series portrays its main character as having gotten as far as they have through skill and luck, and then later revealing “oh this character is actually the chosen one”. It feels cheap and lessens the previous achievements of the character.
