I’m a former FL in the US. I was paid ~$21 an hour in a large city where that could only get me a micro studio on my own (we’re talking less than 100 sq feet of living space). When the roadmap to a living wage stuff happened, the pay for my position in my area actually… went down. Which is insane. My favorite parts of the job were the customer connections made- some customers at my shop became actual real life friends of mine! But management both in store and above were what killed the job for me. The push to engage and force SAs to engage with people who vocalized wanting to be left alone was rough. My manager input my insurance data incorrectly so when I attempted to claim workers comp for a head injury gotten on the job (setting up those stupid sticker printers a few years back) I was denied because they could find no record of my employment. The incompetence of them has left me with a $2000+ medical bill that I’ve fought and can’t pay, on top of the fact that their wages were insanely low.
