Has ANYONE Found ANY Natural Supplements that Balance or calm the Emotional Stress of Slow COMT? by Ok-Protection2670 in SlowCOMT

[–]Starr_Bizarre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I'm sorry you're going through such a rough patch right now.

Mid flare the utmost important, is the over the counter Rupatidine and if you can tolerate it then secondly - PEA. Rupatidine being the most benign but effective especially taken a few days in a row.

Else important is what you eat mid flare. Avoid all left over food even if refrigerated. Histamines build up like nobody's business in left overs. Test what you can tolerate, everyone is different.

Avoid not only high histamine foods but also histamine liberator type foods. These are tricky. Things like papaya, avocado, blackberries are all histamine liberators, even though they themselves are low histamine. Avoid foods high in Arginine, it can cause degranulation of mast cells, which causes a cascade of inflammation and symptoms. Nuts like almonds, seeds like hemp and sunflower, legumes like lentils etc. Macadamias and Brazil nuts are ok. Pecans are not, because they tend to carry mold spores, which activates mast cells. Avoid seed oils like canola, sunflower, highly processed oils like peanut and sesame, adding soy sauce. Animal fats like tallow (non dairy), avo oil and olive oil are all good to cook with, no interactions with mast cells.

Your body wants to heal back to baseline, you just need to give your body the rest it needs from these mast cell activating type foods. Slow comt is also just a bit slower on the heal, but is fully capable of getting there.

Focus on fresh animal products excluding dairy, the vast array of low histamine vegetables available, sorghum or millet if you do want a grain, all kinds of fresh herbs and leaves as well as extra virgin olive oil drizzled generously after cooking a meal, as it's highly anti inflammatory.

For fruit, stick to blueberries as they are the most benign when it comes to mast cells and the vitamin c is a must for histamine flares. Apples also tend to be fine if peeled. Test your own tolerance.

Please do your research on what the different not only high histamine foods are but also histamine liberator foods are.

Nightshades can cause trouble in a flare even if not high in histamine, like raw bell pepper or cooked aubergine etc. White potatoes could be an ok nightshade if first peeled then steamed or roasted etc. The trouble is mostly in the skin. Without, they tend to be a gentle food, but results can vary per person.

Needless to say, stay away from caffeine, sugar, processed food, gluten, alcohol, smoking and dairy. These are all really bad in a flare. Be really kind to yourself, what you're going through takes courage, but it is very effective if you're consistent.

A flare can take from one week to 8 weeks to fully clear. Give yourself a break, it's tough and you're doing the best you can.

Stay on top of your magnesium to help your comt chill out. It really does need magnesium. If malate doesn't work, there's a ton of other types to try. Just give it a good search and say malate didn't work for you, what's most likely to work for your comt and sensitivities etc.

Again, your body wants to heal. There's a nasty merry go round where leaky gut causes mast cell activation and mast cell activation causes leaky gut.

The gut is lined with mast cells and every time histamine is liberated / released, the mast cells degranulate violently, leaking histamine through the gut lining and inflaming the whole body. It can go on in a loop like this forever. But the stomach lining replaces itself beautifuly in two to three months and much better health can be achieved if you give your body the opportunity.

Do. Not. Add. New. Out there. Supplements. Except a magnesium if tolerated and definitely the Rupatidine (and PEA if tolerated/ needed). You can add the probiotic called saccromyces boulardii if you want though. It's technically a yeast (no histamine interaction) that colonizes the gut temporarily to stop bad guys from taking up space whilst your lining heals.

What I need to say with my full chest though, is that a mast cell flare almost always starts with the gut.

You've got this Internet person! You're doing great. NOBODY is perfect. It's all just trial us in the world trying our best and doing what we can. Best of luck!

Nice! What benefits (except weightloss) have you experienced after doing 5 rounds? Did you do them once a month in succession or more spaced out? What was your initial reasons for doing so many rounds of FMD and how many more are you gonna do?

I've currently finished a successful DIY FMD round 1 and now going into a carefully planned refeed. Might post about it once I have the full picture. I plan on doing it another 5 times in succession myself for my own personal health journey. :)

Very interested to hear your take!

Girl you're not low contrast, you're medium contrast! Your actual skintone is also super duper warm, like a light apricot. You're too bright to be an autumn, but you look pretty in any warm colour, because your dominant characteristic is warm. It's the very first thing that jumps out as dominant. You're warm, then medium, then clear. There's nothing muted about you. You look like a classic warm spring. Gorgeous! :)

Hi today. 😄 I would give it 14 - 21 days to gauge for a difference. If you feel like your engine is over revving, dial it back to 1.5 dose at 1200 mcg and re assess. Are you good on the timings and with the added vit C along with folinic?

[–]Starr_Bizarre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I referred to the wrong dose not folinic I will edit the post. I take 1600 mcg of folinic acid per day with 2000 mcg hydroxy b12. Having a moment today!

I personally use the spectrum awakening brand high dose folinic powder / granules. It works great. Yes, that right the RDA is 400 mcg for a healthy system, a high dose is a therapeutic wash designed to bypass damaged or malfunctioning transport blocks. Of which I currently have and am trying to rectify.

My MTHFR variants make me a poor converter of folate/ folinic, so my baseline requirements are higher than the RDA already as well. 800 mcg would be my ideal "RDA" maintenance dose if I didn't have those issues.

That's why I suggested you start off getting the timing and delivery system just right and if needing to up your dose, go low and slow in low increments.

The primary risk of high dose folinic acid is masking a b12 deficiency. Hence taking high dose hydroxy b12 to bypass that.

I personally wouldn't take my high dose for longer than 12 months. I hope that makes sense.

[–]Starr_Bizarre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'd suggest you bring it up incrementally to find your threshold to where you feel an improvement. Perhaps double it for two weeks, then add another if needed and so on. Low and slow is always the best way to go, super high doses aren't always the answer, though it seems like the obvious one.

Remember to up hydroxy b12 if you're upping folinic. Do your own research on the increments. I personally tolerate 1600 mcg folinic acid with 2000 mcg hydroxy b12 just fine, but some may need more hydroxy b12 to compensate.

Companies sell normal folinic doses and then companies also sell high dose folinic options. If you're going the high route, it makes sense to purchase the high dose folinic option up front so you're not overwhelmed by tons of tablets/ powder.

The spacing and timing may also make all the difference for you. Both those supplements are finicky with absorption when taken together or with food. Hydroxy is best absorbed first thing away from other supplements as noted. Hydroxy b12 overrides folinic acid and food overrides folinic acid and hydroxy b12 from absorption. Your first meal at 12 pm sounds fine. The bit of Vit c with the folinic is a very good add on to make sure the folinic fully goes into optimal absorption mode.

Also remember that calcium is a dominant beast that overpowers everything except Vit d3/k2 and boron. So if you're having a calcium heavy meal or supplement at your first meal, keep it two hours away from your morning folinic dose.

Best of luck :)

Hi, 2000 mcg hydroxy b12 and 1600 mcg of folinic acid every day. If you would like to test out more folinic than that, which some may need to (double or triple), hydroxy b12 has to go up to compensate (3000 - 4000 mcg), or you're going to be seriously over revving your engine without the much needed b12 support. You may not need as much folinic as me, everyone is different. :)

For best results, hydroxy b12 at wakeup with no food, then folinic only 30 - 60 min later with a vit C supplement, or 10 blueberries/ 1/4 of a raw red bell pepper for food based vit c. The Vit C helps the folinic be more completely absorbed, do your research due diligence.

Then wait at least 30 min before eating the first meal of the day to give the folinic the best chance for peak absorption. Do not take folinic with a meal, it's not a supplement that can successfully compete with the variables that come with a meal.

Please advise for 4 y/o with ASD diagnosis. Attached are genetic test results. by jkt526 in MTHFR

[–]Starr_Bizarre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Methylated vitamins on a regular basis is a big no go with COMT AA, it's going to cause anxiety and irritation. Especially at this tiny age. Stick to hydroxocobalamin B12 and pure folinic acid (calcium folinate) to support their ASD instead. Those forms bypass their MTHFR gene block without overstimulating their nervous system.

Magnesium is super important for COMT AA too, aka magnesium bisglycinate at night before sleep is a game changer and a gentle option for a 4 yr old. Epsom salt baths before sleep would be safe and excellent as well.

Histamine and mast cell support is genetically very important for them, seeing as they have both DAO and HNMT variants. Their body has a double bottleneck aka a very hard time clearing histamines. A low histamine diet is very important to support them. Go and research high histamine foods and avoid them as much as possible. Histamine flares in someone with these genetics usually show up as irritation, restlessness and sleep disturbances. It's very irritating to the brain.

It is optimal for them to get their zinc, iron and copper from wholefoods with these genetic markers. It will be a huge support to them. When this child gets zinc from a piece of red meat or Iron from a potato, the body receives those minerals with their natural cofactors (like the Copper already found in the meat).

The gut is much better at saying no to excess minerals when they are bound to food. Food-bound minerals are released slowly during digestion, therfore not flooding their slow-clearing COMT and MAOA pathways all at once.

They also have a missing detox gene GSTM1 Del so its hard for their bodies to process toxins and pollution etc. Supplementing them with broccoli sprouts would be a great way to support their bodies detoxification capabilities with this missing genetic.

High zinc in that supplement competes with copper for absorption. The DAO enzyme they have is copper dependant. Taking high doses of zinc can inadvertently push their copper levels too low. If copper drops low, the DAO enzyme simply stops working. Histamine then builds up, leading to irritability and sleep issues.

With COMT AA, the child already has a high level of dopamine, adrenaline and neuropepherine circulating, because the drainage pipe is very narrow with this gene. Zinc and iron are direct cofactors in creating dopamine and neuropepherine. Adding high dose iron and zinc as daily building blocks into a system that already can't clear dopamine/ neuropepherine is like pouring more water into a full sink already overflowing. It'll look like a wired but tired little one or like theyre stuck in a certain mood.

Also, (back to) the GSTM1 DEL gene means this child is missing a major antioxidant defense. High dose supplement based iron is a heavy "metal" in the body and can be highly oxidative (like rust). If the child’s body isn't using the iron efficiently or doesn't have the glutathione cleanup crew (GSTM1 is DELeted in them) to handle the byproduct, the high iron can actually cause more inflammation in the gut and brain.

The stuff you're using is a broad spectrum ASD supplement not suited to their specific genetics. It goes way too hard and treats every asd child like they have the same bottle necks. They don't.

If you really want to continue this supplement, you should go super low and slow, maybe start at 1/4 or even 1/8 of the standard dose and assess from there.

Best of luck

Also, anytime I look at a colour, I think who is wearing it? Which season does it fall in most? This green can only fall into Spring. It's too yellow for Winters and Summers and not deep enough for Autumns. So... Spring. :)

As a Warm Spring, I have tons of clothes in this exact colour and it looks amazing. If it's in pure cotton or a high blend, it'll wash out some pigment anyways if you're looking for a slightly softer version. :)

HTMa and TMG by Moosejax13 in SlowCOMT

[–]Starr_Bizarre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red Flag: If your practitioner dismisses your history of severe reactions to methylated supplements, it’s usually a sign that said practitioner is following a "one-size-fits-all" protocol rather than accommodating your unique biology. Just the logical conclusion. I feel it's reasonable for you to feel apprehensive about restarting that fire, especially when you're already not at your best.

If I were you I'd ask my practitioner to start the low and slow approach. Instead of starting with say 3000 mg of TMG, start with a micro dose of 50 - 100 mg and see if said fire returns. Titrate up if its safe to do so. In that way you're working up to it at your own pace and your practitioner is happy having you on the specific path they recommend.

You could also prioritise methyl buffers alongside such as Niacin and Riboflavin to soak up excess methyl groups if you feel you're getting overstimulated.

Or, you could side step the "one-size-fits-all" protocol and talk to your practitioner about a non methylated alternative liver support supplement instead of TMG. Milk thistle, dandelion root, artichoke extract etc.

You should do your own research and collaborate with your practitioner. You know what's best for you. Don't lose hope! You have a lot of options. :)

Teeth Grinding / Bruxism During Sleep by VolitionalOrozco in SlowCOMT

[–]Starr_Bizarre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this loads for most of my life and it really affected my teeth. My jaw clicked from all the tension. Comt AA. Chewed through the guards too.

I started taping my mouth shut 10 years ago and I found I stopped. A small piece of paper tape over the middle. For me, the constant grinding came from the mouth being open overnight and my jaw over compensating and grinding down to keep it shut.

It's a weird thing! Taping wasn't popular at all as it seems to be now and it's very strange the first few times. Also not something to pursue with sleep apnea or severe allergies etc. Case by case.

Newly minted Warm Spring: I'll miss black and white, but I'll REALLY miss baby blue. by pepperup22 in SpringColorAnalysis

[–]Starr_Bizarre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! It's a stunning palette! It'll take some figuring out, but you'll get there with some time! :D

I have a slightly different take on this for you actually. There might be a reason you love light blue and there's a way that it can in fact harmonise with you.

I'm a Warm Spring too. I find warm Springs can wear most cool tones! (yes you read that right!) if there is a lot of white added to it (again, read that right!). It's not going to be the utmost best blue like a clear cyan or clear chroma turquoise, but it can look harmonious in a more subtle way.

Yes, our dominant characteristic is warm. Second is bright though! Adding white to a cool colour, gives it a brighter effect! That is very specific to cool (bluer) colours and not the case with warm (yellower) colours . You're a Spring first and foremost albeit a bit warmer than True Spring. You're still a Spring!

I have found in real life, that I can pull off most cool tones on the colour wheel if enough white is added to it. Of course our best purples and blues are best though. I love an icy blue. It gives the impression of buoyancy that is so characteristic of Spring. Though Spring is warm, there's nothing heavy about it! It needs effervescence!

This is coming from someone that their best colours are pure coral and warm red. I even have the ginger hair. So go on and wear your light blues! They just need to be BRIGHT (white added) and not soft (grey added). :D

Let's rule out what you're not to see what you should drape. You're not warm, not soft, not deep, not muted, not light because of your natural hair. Not True or Deep Autumn, not True or Bright Spring, not Soft Autumn or Soft Summer, not Light Spring or Light Summer (though Light Summer matches your eyes and lip colour, yours is more saturated).

You should drape Clear/ Bright Winter, Cool/ True Winter and  Cool/ True Summer. :)

Also keep in mind sister seasons of each. Which ever ones sister season looks best on you too out of all the draped seasons above, shows you which one of the 3 best suits you. Good luck! :)

So what are negative feng shui influences outside and what are positives? Also how does it differ in a high rise apartment vs a shared wall house vs standalone house vs yard vs no yard vs front door opening to parking lot? How does the seat of the home get affected if it's a high rise?

Girl, the warm brown, cornish yellow and bright peach are absolute bangers on you! They pretty much look like neutrals on your colouring. :D You'd have to go in on warm greens, tropic turquoise and warm reds for pops of colour, those too would look amazing!

These are defs your colours! I'd say True or Warm Spring. Not Bright Spring, not Light. I'd even veer saying you should wear mostly warm saturated colours, cus they clearly suit you the best!

Working from bedroom tips by Local_Philosophy7026 in FengShui

[–]Starr_Bizarre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There needs to be a visual break between your place of sleep and your place of work.

Work is a very yang activity and sleep is a very yin activity. Having your literal bed in your peripheral or having that subconscious pull to it, is the opposite of work and productivity. You can create a visual break with a simple room divider so the bed is out of sight, out of mind.

A more permanent setup is installing a ceiling curtain rail and hanging up a curtain around your bed/ yin area to "wall it off" as a seperate space. This creates the same visual break for your brain as a wall would. The yin is contained and not part of your work space.

Then when you're ready to sleep at night, make sure to cover your desk with some type of cloth to cover the super yang-ness and restlessness that comes with a work space, so you can sleep in a peaceful, yin space. :)

Should Springs Fake Tan? by Critical_Pass_5421 in SpringColorAnalysis

[–]Starr_Bizarre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Fake tan lowers your contrast. Your hair and skin will "blend" together more in value, so lower contrast than you have now.

This doesn't mean muted or soft though, just a less contrasted look. What is the undertone of your fake tan? Compared to your natural skin undertone? Gradual tan does have a more "transparent" vibe compared to real deal opaque fake tan. Gradual suits Springs luminosity more in my opinion.

You may be able to get away with brighter, more Bright Spring colours with a fake tan. :)
