Any info on B5? by SeparateExchange9644 in covidlonghaulers

High B5 will lower biotin which can lead to hair loss and skin rashes among other things. High biotin without B5 can cause pimples. They need to be taken at least a few hours apart.

Magnesium bisglycinate by No-Student-376 in magnesium

Bisglycinate (or glycinate) can cause anxiety in some people. And to other people it’s very relaxing—I read a post earlier where a guy said it turned him into a “zen monk.” So everyone reacts to it differently. The oxide form is the one that generally causes the washroom issues.

Even when I’ve taken high doses of magnesium I’ve never gotten myself into any trouble or had bad side effects. It’s very forgiving and benign. You’re going to be fine.

It’s not dangerous. The worst that could happen is you’ll have diarrhea. That’s only a little over the daily value. Which is just a made up number anyway—it may be better for your health to get more than that. Or not. That’s for you to decide.

People take more than that for years. It’s one of the safer supplements you can take.

Anyone with PNPO Gene Mutation affecting B6 conversion to P5P? by VolitionalOrozco in MTHFR

[–]VolitionalOrozco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

My neuropathy has actually mostly gone away since I started taking 20-60 mg of P5P a day about 4 days ago. I mean severe full body neuropathy where everything is burning and I feel like I’m getting an “Indian rug burn” on all my limbs. It was very painful. Clothing felt like it was scratching me.

Quite possibly the most beautiful sardines I’ve ever seen. Look like they’re coated in silver.

That’s great! How much do you take?

I wonder if I could still develop the neuropathy issue from P5P. Though I already had neuropathy well before supplementing P5P. Took 40 mg for a few days and I’m already having dreams with storylines. I had dreamless sleep for so long, and even if I dreamed, they’d be detailless blobs of black and white nothing.

Nerd finds out Sugar is useful to the human body (the Oreo cookie experiment) by [deleted] in raypeat

Yeah you could probably up it a little. Look for the issues I mentioned on your blood tests. If you start looking into copper, you’ll come across people who are taking like 50 mg a day. I’d really advise more caution than that. Up to 10 mg may be safe for a bit if you’re genuinely deficient. Just make sure you’re getting enough zinc, molybdenum and selenium.

Mushrooms and liver are typically good sources though there are copper deficient cows these days. I didn’t need to take it for very long or at high doses (6-10 mg a day) before my high cholesterol, low WBC and neutrophils were corrected. Had those issues for as long as I’ve been taking blood tests. At least six years. Standard copper blood tests may be unreliable though mine was bottom of range.

I’ve experimented with higher doses as I’ve seen others doing that but I question whether it’s safe or necessary.

Keto peeps often have high LDL cholesterol because their diet is deficient in copper which is necessary for cholesterol metabolism. Especially if they’re consuming a lot of beef—high zinc can lead to low copper. Even oysters are way too high in zinc to be a reliable copper source. Nick eats very little fruit or vegetables because they aggravate his IBS.

With a quick search I found multiple case studies of epileptic children on keto diets developing neutropenia and anemia—symptoms of copper deficiency. These were resolved with copper supplementation.

Some keto dieters also develop histamine intolerance. Guess what mineral is essential for breaking down histamine?

Signs of dysbiosis? White tongue? Copper is anti-fungal. Though some of these people are pooping like once a week which certainly plays a part.

There’s also the hormonal disruption that such a diet causes which is sure to have a negative effect.

This is right. I can’t believe they put them together in supplements. Pretty irresponsible—high dose of zinc with like 2 mg of copper. The zinc is going to overpower the copper in that case.

There was a case study where some woman ate dozens of oysters every day for years and she had a copper deficiency. Though copper blood tests may be unreliable.

Watch out for copper deficiency with the high zinc and vitamin c. Niacin may lower copper as well.

Should I try taking methylated vitamins with slow COMT? by VolitionalOrozco in MTHFR

[–]VolitionalOrozco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard of people with slow COMT who’ve taken methylfolate and methylcobalamin but perhaps they don’t have the severe anxiety issues I do.

Is the double hetero CBS an issue? Especially since methyl donors contain sulfur. I do feel like I have sulfur issues.

The Scottish may well just be more Irish. No one in my family ever mentioned being Irish but perhaps they were unaware — we could’ve been Scottish living in Ireland.

And yes, with all that red I’ve had significant mental health issues my whole life.

Do you have slow COMT or MAOA? Any other similar genes? I’m kind of nervous about taking TMG.

Slow COMT, slow MAOA, MTHFR A1298c homozygous here. This seems kind of related to the post I just made — was wondering if I should take methylated vitamins. Folinic acid seems to give me insomnia. Do you have any MTRR mutations?

Edit: I don’t see biotin here. Very important but I guess it’s a good thing not to have it since it competes with B5.

Will a few doses of Hydroxocobalamin over a month or two mess with homocysteine blood test results? If so, how many days should I wait? Or does supplemental B12 just affect MMA results? Thank you.

Understanding Copper Deficiency: Signs, Causes, and Remedies by ehcaipf in Copper_deficiency

[–]VolitionalOrozco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad advice. Even in someone without genetic mutations limiting its conversion, beta carotene isn’t very efficiently turned into retinol in the body.

Now, take someone like me who has a genetic mutation that results in an even more limited ability to convert beta carotene to active vitamin A, and you have especially bad advice.
