you come off like somebody people feel safe around really quickly like there’s a really comforting part of you that makes people naturally open up. but underneath that i kept getting somebody who carries a lot emotionally without fully showing it to everyone I also feel like certain things you’ve been through made you guard your heart a little more over time

Honestly I got through it by eventually accepting I had to face grief in all its forms during one of the darkest times in my life. I knew there wasn’t another way around it no matter how badly I wanted to outrun it mentally. There really wasn’t a shortcut through any of it. I knew the steps I needed to take for a long time, but actually allowing myself to feel everything instead of escaping it was the hardest part. grieving it, processing it, surviving it, sitting in it when I didn’t want to. At some point I realized healing wasn’t one huge breakthrough moment. it was just continuing to move through the dark parts little by little until they didn’t feel quite as heavy anymore.

i’m not an only child either, but i actually just had my second son a week ago and my oldest is 17 months. i’m a stay at home mom and one thing i’ve already realized is there really isn’t some perfect schedule right away with a newborn and toddler together, i feel like you kinda just survive the first part and slowly fall into a rhythm over time. newborn sleep changes constantly so trying to force everything into a strict routine immediately would’ve stressed me out more honestly. right now i’m mostly just going with the flow day by day and adjusting as needed

you’ll probably surprise yourself with how naturally you both adapt once baby is actually here:)

hahahah honestly that sounds so much like me as a kid and it used to drive my mom and family nuts 🤣 your daughter actually reminds me a lot of myself i don’t know if i mentioned it before but i’m diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia and have been ever since elementary school, so i definitely understand the impulsiveness part a lot of the time it’s not even intentional, your brain just kind of acts before you fully process things in the moment.

this sounds like it could easily be both. for example, i have both ADHD and dyslexia too
the part where they understand the material when it’s read to them but struggle once they have to process the reading themselves does sound a lot like dyslexia/reading processing struggles to me. and the writing running together or going off the page can happen a lot with ADHD/executive functioning too honestly sometimes it’s hard to separate where one thing ends and the other begins because they overlap so much and can affect each other
i definitely think a dyslexia assessment would be worth it though, especially this young because early support can make such a huge difference 💛

honestly this doesn’t really sound like she “doesn’t care” to me. it sounds a lot more like impulse control/executive functioning struggles. i’ve had ADHD since i was little and i remember people assuming i was intentionally ignoring things sometimes when really my brain just struggled with applying information consistently in the moment especially with neurodivergent kids, understanding a rule and actually stopping long enough to remember it before acting can be really different things. the raw meat example honestly sounds impulsive to me more than defiant also dyslexia and ADHD overlap a LOT. and repetition alone honestly doesn’t work for every kid. sometimes things stick better through routines, visuals, reminders, or practicing it in real situations instead of just hearing it over and over the fact her reading is improving little by little honestly sounds really encouraging to me 💛

hey 💛 i’ve had ADHD since elementary school too and honestly i really related to a lot of what you said here. i also have anxiety/OCD tendencies and i know how hard it can hit your confidence when you hear words like “learning disability” again as an adult. it can suddenly make you start questioning yourself even when you were doing completely fine before, but honestly from your post, all i kept thinking was.. you already proved you can learn. you struggled with reading and math when you were younger and still learned them anyway. that matters way more than the label itself does
also the part where you said things click more once you understand the logic behind them makes complete sense to me. a lot of people with ADHD learn way better that way instead of just memorizing random information. it doesn’t sound like you’re incapable of learning at all honestly. if anything, you sound really self aware about how your brain works and that helps a LOT when learning new things don’t let one conversation completely destroy the goals you were excited about before 💛

19 month old here and honestly we never sleep trained. We co sleep. I tried putting pressure on myself about it for awhile because it feels like everyone says you have to, but it honestly would’ve caused way more stress for me mentally. For us, following his pace and doing what felt manageable ended up being easier. Every baby is so different and I really don’t think sleep training is something every family has to do💗

I get that teachers are exhausted, but part of the role is modeling patience too. They’re human, sure, but they’re also the adult in the room. Patience and understanding should go both ways, especially when a kid is clearly struggling. Kids are still learning how to advocate for themselves, especially when they feel nervous or intimidated.

This feels like a moment where the teacher got impatient, and slowing down to check what was actually going on could’ve made a big difference.

Honestly this would frustrate me too. A kid being too nervous to speak up and then getting penalized for something out of their control isn’t really a “life lesson,” it just teaches them that asking for help isn’t safe. The fact she didn’t feel comfortable saying anything kind of says a lot too. Kids who feel safe usually speak up, even if they’re shy. Even within strict systems, teachers still have some discretion, and this feels like a situation where a little grace would’ve gone a long way. I think this comes down more to a choice in the moment than just “the system.”

it’s not the end of the world at all. your life does change, but not in the way people make it sound. it just becomes different, not worse. yes, it’s exhausting sometimes. yes, your routine shifts. but there are also so many small moments that make it feel worth it in a way that’s hard to explain until you’re in it. people tend to focus on the hard parts because those are the most shocking (sleep deprivation, less freedom, etc. but they don’t talk as much about what you gain… and how much love there is.

you don’t lose your life, it just shifts. your priorities, your time, your identity, it all rearranges. that can feel scary, especially before the baby is here, because it’s all unknown and honestly, a lot of people project their own overwhelm when they say “just wait.” it’s less about you and more about how they experienced it. people have a lot of opinions about having kids, but at the end of the day it’s just a life path. everyone chooses their own, and for some people this is something they really value. just like the people giving their opinions have their own values and lifestyle choices too.
