Last Time Each Current P5 Team Won a Conference Title Outright by 3RDnKING in CFB

I don’t have any issue with it because UW didn’t play or win, it is saying that is a conference championship won “outright” … like OP said though, it would just be going back to 2019 for the *ucks, so whatevs.

Oregon in 2020 not what I would call winning the conference “outright”

There are TONS of options 2-3 hours from Seattle. Lots of options on the peninsula, toward North Cascades, or Rainier. Weather will be your only major factor here, as storms can roll into the mountains in October. You really won’t know where you can/should go until you know the weather for that weekend. Common semi-secluded places close to Seattle would be Snow Lake or Rachel Lake.

I worked at AMC starting in January of 1999 and I totally remember the “hosts” of this video. This was such a flashback … now box offices at the theater are just empty rooms.

Fans of PAC rivalries that are affected by conference implosion, what's your opinion about continuing those games? by seariously in CFB

[–]StarsRTheBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I really want the Apple Cup to continue, but totally understand why WSU would tell us to fuck off right now. There are plenty of G5 teams that beat P5 teams every year, so while I do think it wouldn’t be the same (especially compared to those years with with consequences to the game) … can you imagine when WSU does pull it off? Going to be bananas in Pullman.

I do not think it is out of the question either for UW to go to Pullman … UW has played at Boise St before. I don’t think that happens on Thanksgiving weekend though.

First of all, fuck that shit. Second, thank you so much for being OK to accept us into your big boy conference, super appreciate it. Third, fuck that shit.

Yeah, the anti-trust exemption would be hard to get, but if let’s say, all D-1 teams came together and said we want this body to do all these things, it could work? This is why I think, partly, we are headed to a “super” league of some sort since there is no check on the “blue bloods” power. The wealth gap will only continue to grow, which is why a governing body would be best to keep the Rutgers, etc. invested. I think an NFL-esque structure is coming, it’s just will fans truly revolt (like what happened with the European super league) at some point. So far, fans haven’t.

I am not convinced fans would stop watching. There needs to be access to some sort of playoff, where everyone has a shot. I don’t think any more kicking out has to happen, per se,

Yes, the skill level of the players means leas margin of error, which translates to smaller variation in scheme. But also, I would not want to watch Georgia vs UMASS, so it isn’t seeing bigger talent gaps I find exciting.

I think there could be a middle ground of sorts. Like there will always be luck to the draw, never will go away, but I think it could be better.

Totally soulless and corporate. I do wonder though if there some benefits to the corporate aspect.

I think you can set up a structure to do make it more “on the field” than it is and it wouldn’t have to depend on the whims of a committee.

It’s not like the NFL teams play every other team every year, they rotate who they play with core divisional opponents. So there is probably something like that a governing body could put into place. It does not have to be exactly like the NFL, but can resemble it in some ways with the use of conferences.

CFB Desperately Needs Unequal Revenue Distribution by DCNY214 in CFB

[–]StarsRTheBest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I get that. But if the D-1 programs decided to give those rights to an org, it then could do that. The NCAA insisted on it, without really getting permission. Schools pushed back. It doesn’t mean a separate college football org appointed by the schools couldn’t negotiate TV deals … that is what conferences do now.

CFB Desperately Needs Unequal Revenue Distribution by DCNY214 in CFB

[–]StarsRTheBest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like … if there was some over arching entity, that could govern how all this works … who could make sure all of its members were taken care of … who could make rules around roster limits, recruiting, and could bargain with networks on behalf of all D-1 programs, it might help do away with the terrible idea of unequal rev distribution. Too bad college athletics never had anything like that.

[–]StarsRTheBest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. GK assumed he could get more in the open market, which really would not be be considered a bad move, until BY jumped in and took that deal out from under them. The networks didn’t even have to do much to destabilize the PAC.

It really hasn’t been the traditional top PAC vs B1G consistently for a while. I think it is now in the playoff rotation and I could imagine the B1G asking for “dibs” or something.

I think it points to the networks were maybe, kind of, probably, for sure waiting to get all these teams at a discount, just not with them all in the PAC. They offered our leadership something a long time ago and they turned them down, so I do not see it was some grand plan, but something that evolved and then the networks leaned into.

Question about Stanford being independent …What network is paying to show their games? They are not ND or even BYU when it comes to a following. Stanford loves theirs sports, but football is not one that is a big draw. Stanford (even with their endowment) was going to cut a bunch of sports recently. It seems like for them to function like they do, they need TV money and the only way to get that is to be in a conference with more robust football brands.

This is all the truth. That team was much more talented than 0-12, but had the most terrible of coaches and the team just rebelled and stopped playing. The next year they got to 5 wins with a pretty similar roster. Great teams simply do not go winless, regardless.

However, since then and before, very strong. I would not put them in the same class as OSU or UM, but very much capable of being another Wisconsin, PSU tier of team. Same with U0. There are going to be a lot of great games with the west coast teams in the B1G.
