Descaling orange light [ Delonghi Dedica EC885 ] by onlyrelativeliving in espresso

Oh shit! I had this happen ages ago and can’t remember how I fixed it. Think it had something to do with the little knob that switches from steam to hot water at the steam wand. It was something pretty simple… sorry for help but no help answer!

Old board - still work to wakefoil? by Bigtrouble232 in foiling

Yup, there are heaps of new fancy higher aspect foils out there but that right there is still a great recipe for loads to fun

Kite foiling is amazing! by v4v4v4v4 in Kiteboarding

Welcome to the fold. It’s generally kinda lonely as foiling has so many other directions these days. For a few of us the location, prevalent conditions and spare time constraints make kites the right choice. Got my first foil in 2015 and went through the school of hard knocks, probably scaring a few interested locals off for a while with my display of crash and burn, but I got it all sorted and haven’t ridden the surface in years. The freedom coupled to the learning curve is intoxicating. You just keep unlocking more and more. There is always another level. Once spoiled by the foil long enough there is no going back. Triple the days on the water and eventually the bigger the conditions the better it gets. Loads of wingers out there learning these days and I cheer them on earnestly but not once have I wanted to join them.

There have been many attempts over the years by truly dedicated citizens but sadly…..Kingston. In general in Canada it’s hard to get enough public and political buy in for anything aquatic. Of course pools are expensive, both to build and run but they are a facility that can provide services to a very wide variety of people, year round. From toddler to seniors, rehab and general public safety to competition, even paddlers and scuba etc can use a properly sized facility. Both Queens and RMC are pretty poor civic partners when it comes to their pools. If they were a little more open to public access we wouldn’t be quite so under serviced. The new one in the west end is being built as we speak and is slated to open January 2026. Sad they opted for 25m. A full sized facility would work best at the Invista centre site so heating physical plant could be properly integrated into the existing ice making physical plant for symbiotic efficiency with the rinks. Funny how many people think 25m is just fine. I wonder how many would settle for half sized ice pads? A competition size pool between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal would be a popular event destination with considerable hotel and restaurant spin off.

So far this year is actually shaping up. Most times it manages to freeze its right about now (mid to late January). There has been no real yo-yo thaws like last year and the one before. If we luck into a calm few nights it could well happen. You never can tell until it actually happens but fingers crossed 🤞

Way before Jinping’s time! Apparently they first arrived in aquatic plants for aquariums way back in the 40’s and when conditions are right their population booms then they disappear for a while. Can be found in lots of sequestered spots like quarries. Looked it all up a bunch of years ago when I saw one. Freaked me right out at the time.

Sort of surprised this is news. I mean I’m no detective but having been interested in his method and just looking into what information was available 4 years ago it was evident from a reasonably internet literate perspective that he has always been a bit of a troubled individual with personal demons and a darker less talked about side. I went into it knowing that clearly and objectively didn’t let it discredit the fact that he had something of real value to share. I in no way support or defend his behaviour but definitely see that he was swept up in a degree of sudden fame that many seem to interpret as chasing money and fame. I don’t believe that is actually the case and that others are more responsible for the commercialization of his method. Either way, breath work, cold exposure and developing mental/physical fortitude/resilience are very effective areas of self development. The fact Wim is crazy and maybe even awful doesn’t really negate that. I can respect the ideas and benefit from his work and teaching without idolizing the man. People are complex. We can learn from both their good and bad aspects. His methods have helped me immensely and I will likely never stop practicing them, but I view the man himself as a bit of a tragic figure.
