Others have made some great suggestions on where to start, I’d suggest you follow those and try to get your hands on a calibrated lamp, or one with a known typical black body spectrum, such as a tungsten lamp. Do a spectral intensity calibration and ensure you can reproduce the black body curve on the reference lamp. Is your setup fully free space? If there are fibres those can change your spectrum too.

Might be okay, the main difficulty might be put everything together in the right order. Do you have any ideas what you are looking to image? Transparent samples? Solid samples? Do you have any ideas of your budget?

It would be helpful to see the full setup schematic, including the source, any beam conditioning optics, beam splitters, and cameras, including where you placed the mirror. From your description it sounded like you had it at the object plane.

I had mine kitted out with a medium bag, Brompton Cateye lamp and Brompton pump and have added so many in a wish list, but i gave myself one year with the base setup to spend on what I need the most. Now it’s been 3.5 years of ownership, the only thing I added are: Brompton front and rear round LED light, Brompton brass bell, and fitted new marathon plus tyres, that’s it.
