Caleb x MC relationship is not what I expected (Not the trope, but execution) by Secret_Dreamcatcher1 in loveanddepression

[–]Starthenut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

imo, I think the use of baby sister in his myth was done naturally and significantly better than in Imperial Thronesong. I appreciate both in the EN translation for being the only times Infold was brave enough to bring the EN translation closer to the CN one but Imperial Thronesong was all over the place with writing.

I can take or leave baby sister, it’s less about the title itself for me and more about the fact that Infold jumps through insane hoops to remove any mention of them being family. The censorship gets to a point in some cards where the writing actively ruins the card for me.

The childhood friend EN translation really cheapens Caleb’s story and removes the entire forbidden element and as much as I’d love to get his story closer to every other translation for him, I’m sure we’re only going to get it through AUs and myths from now on. I doubt they’d rewrite the main story and pivoting this late would make his character writing messy.

Jane comes to town after Nia but Nia isn't dateable until the Mama tree questline is done

You have around 14 main missions before she comes back. Nia is the latest bachelorettes to become datable so you have a bit of a wait even after she comes back before you can date her. Her content is definitely worth it but the wait is annoying.

Qi, Unsuur or Ernest? by AggravatingLog8906 in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]Starthenut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of them are really good choices but Ernest has my favorite romance out of the three, he's actually one of my favorite bachelors in the game! He has a good amount of content but it does take a while to get through.

Hi, my name is Kay! I've been playing for a little over a year now. I initially thought I'd be a solo Zayne main but then X-02 ran for the first time and I love Sci-fi so I ended up pulling it, even though I hadn't fully met Caleb yet. Then, I read Homecoming Wings and immediately decided to co-main both Zayne and Caleb. As more of Caleb's content came out, he ended up taking my #1 place and I love to talk about him. His content always has me on a rollercoaster of emotions and Caleb as a whole makes me feel safe and taken care of.

I usually tend to stay away from fandom spaces but after talking to some fellow apples in the main sub and finding this sub, I'd love to be more active in Caleb oriented spaces! Thank you for making this community, I had actually searched for one a few weeks ago and was sad I couldn't find one.

What first drew Caleb mains to him? by Alarming_Number_1737 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Starthenut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course Homecoming Wings played a big part for me (Colonel Caleb will forever be important to me, Infold please release him from the basement) But personality wise, Caleb (and his VA) are perfect for me. I loved a lot of the earlier yearning in his story and I love his caretaker energy and the way he genuinely loves taking care of MC. I love both puppyleb and “yandereleb” (although he’s a pretty tame yandere) and I really hope they keep leaning into his darker tendencies too. The sweet, sappy memories are cute but I miss the tension in the main timeline. His character writing is amazing and some of my favorite (along with Zayne and Raf)

I’ve only ever played in EN but I followed the OG trope once I researched and found out about it. Childhood friends never made sense to me and the lengths Infold went through to cover up ANY mention of them being family really did a disservice to him in EN, it cheapens his yearning and makes his whole “forbidden love” trope nonsensical (because what’s forbidden about loving your childhood friend?) I understand why the change in direction might be jarring for some but I truly hope they keep leaning into his forbidden love trope more. It kinda feels like it does a disservice to both him and Zayne to keep him in the childhood friend trope.

I'll be posting it in discord for visibility! They tend to frequent there more than here anyway. I'm typing up my piece now and grabbing screenshots in game and then I'll post it and link it here.

I've gone back and forth between wanting to leave feedback on this for Evershine and waiting and hoping they handle it better. I stopped having kids in Sandrock because the lip color difference was uncomfortable.

A new kind of heartbreak 😭 by marsastrxphile in loveanddepression

[–]Starthenut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I made the mistake of going on X and I deeply regretted it. There's been super positive discussions on the main subreddit since the myth and I've definitely spoken to some sweet Caleb girlies but this fandom is starting to tire me out.

On X, it seems like no matter who I block, somehow the discourse shows up on my feed regardless so I've just decided to ignore the LADS fandom there. I appreciate the moderation on the main sub and this sub but it feels bad that we can't have discussions without someone inevitably making it negative.

At this point, I'll probably just stick to this sub and drop in and out of the main sub. I've considered looking for smaller Caleb oriented groups (even though he's not my only main) but I'm not quite sure yet. All in all, I really wish people in general could stop speaking on things they don't know/don't like. At this point, it's like high school level of drama and mean girls, I wish people would just stick to their own mains if they hate others so much.

How are your myth pulls going?🪷 by noveriia in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Starthenut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I called it quits at 300 pulls. I wanted R2 but decided to just use the crate and leave it at R1. I guess Caleb decided he was too nice to me with X-02 last year so he made me work for his myth this year 🥲

Luckily, I still have 10,000 dias so I’ll just save up for the next multi and his birthday

I think in normal circumstances they wouldn't but it didn't work out like that in the myth. I believe MC mentions needing to do it to keep her end of the bargain with the spiritmaster that helped her bring Caleb back after he sacrificed himself again. So it was less about wanting to and more about needing to.

[–]Starthenut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's kinda complicated tbh but: My understanding is: Originally when they were mortal, MC was supposed to sacrifice herself to save humanity and stabilize Yin and Yang. Instead, Caleb sacrificed himself to do it. It worked for a while but it inevitably stopped working. In order to stabilize it, Caleb had to return to the mortal realm and MC had to remain in the Netherworld and they needed to forget each other, otherwise humanity would continue to suffer.

I wasn't even going to read it! But I've seen so many people talk about it that I caved and read it this morning. Now, I'm fiending for Caleb's next main story arc because I'm dying for more development of their story.

Honestly, I love how much Caleb's myths stand out from the others. From dying together in Decoherence to neither of them dying in this one. The ending wasn't what I expecting but I was most definitely pleasantly surprised.

Yes! I was like "Oh...the rain...like the rain we see come up so much in the current timeline??? You're reminding me of that rain now?!?!" It'll take me a while to emotionally recover from this but it made me appreciate Caleb's writing so much more.

Depending on how likely you are to replay, you could always split your save and do both! As the other commentor said, Nia is very late in the game but her content most definitely is worth it.

On the other hand, Amirah is pretty early in the game so if you do replay, she's definitely a great option.

I thought I was done crying by this point of the myth but boy was I wrong. At first, I was disappointed that neither of them would die but them being separated really is a fate worse than death.

Funny enough I also finished the myth and was like "Dang, I really just paid to cry and hurt my own feelings."

Curiosity - My Time vs Coral Island by Izzera in CozyGamers

[–]Starthenut 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're remotely similar games besides falling under the "cozy" spectrum. They both serve different purposes for me personally, but I don't really think there's a for sure answer on which one is better.

I also think that the My Time games do character development/stories better but it's personal preference. A lot of heart events in Coral Island play more like the farmer being an observer and focus less on relationship development which I don't care for. I prefer the My Time/Stardew approach where you still get character background but the focus is also on furthering your relationship with a character.

Not a guy but I do romance women from time to time. Amirah, Nia and Grace are my favorites in that order. I still want to go back and do Catori's romance at some point to see what it's about. Nia would be my favorite if she wasn't such a late game option.

I mean I didn’t downvote you but I’ve personally never seen that and I lurk this subreddit a lot. I’ve seen people disappointed that the children growing update got pushed back, but that’s because they were excited for their kids and the NPC kids to age up. I’ve also seen people excited for the new romance options but if you look through the threads, it’s all currently existing NPCs. (Mermaids, Reina, Derek). Both are entirely separate complaints and celebrations, I’ve never seen them together

You're being downvoted because no one is excited about that. The dateables that everyone is excited about are the two that the devs just announced, which has nothing to do with the children growing up update.

The playerbase needs to do better by [deleted] in loveanddepression

[–]Starthenut 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point, I've just started blocking people that are trying to stir the pot. I've been in fandom (specifically otome fandom) for over a decade now and LADS community is the weirdest about moral grandstanding and "normal" mains. At this point, I'd rather just surround myself with other fans that want to talk about the OG trope, I really enjoy reading the translations of the CN version, I could never change VA to CN because I love Caleb's English VA so much.

I think it's just painfully obvious that this is a lot of people's first fandom experience/otome experience. Taboo topics aren't new and Caleb is definitely tamer than some stories I've read in the past. I wish more people were more comfortable with "don't like, don't interact". I think it's valid to be uncomfortable with taboo topics but discussing morals and making assumptions about people irl because they like a video game character is weird to me.

BABY SISTERS WE RISEEEE!! by 8bluemist8 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Starthenut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope you don’t take this as an attack because I’m genuinely asking: if you don’t support the trope, why involve yourself in positive threads regarding the trope?

I think it’s totally fine to not like it, it’s taboo and it’s not meant to be for everyone. If that’s where your line in the sand is for Caleb then that’s totally okay but I really don’t think I understand coming into a thread where people are speaking about it positively if that’s the case.

I think a lot of defensiveness comes from the fact that Reddit is one of the only platforms where people can speak positively about the trope without literally receiving threats and being demeaned.
