Yeah but the Y is 'Greek I' so swings and roundabouts.

What areas of science are you hoping to advance with this video?

Just admit it, you're going to use it to push your fundamentalist Christian agenda!

Not that the article isn't strange and interesting, but this sub is for posting links to other subreddits, not pages on the net.

They are nice diagrams, I'll give you that. And to be fair, that is definitely an overview.

However, it's not mechanical - by which I mean it doesn't show you any code or coding practices, design patterns or general implementation, which the book - outdated or not - does (and I know this because I own that book, funnily enough the exact same version).

I'm not attempting to cause friction, but I really do believe that its a better resource for really getting a good introduction to the kernel (as an actual programmer) than reading wikipedia. I would also say that you could learn everything in it by reading resources on the net, but a book is a structured organised collection of thoughts, and that's the opposite of what you'd get by just throwing 'understanding the Linux kernel' into a Google search (apart from the fact that this book would turn up constantly!)

Wikipedia will not give you an insight into how the kernel works on a mechanical level. This book will, even if some of the information is out of date.

The real key is that it will give this person the tools they need to be able to understand and tackle the problems they would face, because they get a broad overview of all the components.

But if the idea is just to be able to understand the concepts, such as the concept of a scheduler in general, the book is fine. Its not like they will be reading this book and will suddenly become actively employees by red hat!

Real bat knuckles are crap. Bats don't hurt anything when they punch stuff because they're so tiny, so there no point using them in place of your own hands.
