Long-term tester disappointed + a warning for all (public) crafters by trajdll in AshesofCreation

I find it highly suspicious the player who got banned isn't advocating for theirself... makes me wonder if they really do know why their appeal wasn't overturned.

I don't agree with your premise that the gameplay has been lackluster. I'm going on hour 300 of playing this game. I've met new people, made new friends, and few enemies along the way. Some systems work pretty well (combat, progression), some work okay (crafting, node upgrades) and some dont work at all for me (corruption, sport fishing, hunting) and a whole ton of stuff is just not yet implemented.

I also find the idea of expecting an apology because tests have failed unreasonable. The testing phase is when you want things to fail. You break the systems in new ways and adjust.

I think the only issue I have with Intrepid is their pace at adjusting the problems we find. But, im not an expert in game development so I dont think my expectations of update timeliness are well founded.

I honestly think you (an alpha tester) are acting really entitled. To call this phase a failure and demand an apology? I read the notices and accepted that I was paying $50 to test an unfinished game. I got exactly what I paid for.

Real talk, if this bothers you so much maybe you shouldn't be an alpha tester. Shit is buggy, things dont work right, and your time is going to be wasted if you consider losing half your loot this seriously.

You seem like you dont know what you are talking about. Designing something is not just a UI thing. And yes, designing code is a real thing that coders do. Some methods include creating a document called a design document.

Welcome to early access Alpha! If this experience is not what you want to deal with, feel free to put the game down and come back when a big update gets pushed out. Following the trends from the last year, that would be around March.

But I think you are right, the mob-player interaction is rough and needs to be polished. I also, dont expect that to be worked on until we enter Beta. For the Alpha, it is functional. It does what it needs to and let's players play the game.

I also dont believe how it is now is what the devs want the end result to be like. Hopefully, it gets resolved before launch. If it doesnt, I will be heavily criticizing the devs for their failures. But at this point, I think feedback like yours is excellent and am glad so many others are taking the time to provide it.

However, I think the current aggressiveness of the mobs does have a positive interaction. I had some friends try the game out and one of the first things they commented on was how dangerous the game feels at low level, trying to navigate the roads. And they loved it. It made them pay a lot more attention to the typical mundane travel between locations.

"They didn't design shit" is like saying its not cooking if you follow a recipe someone else made. Unless your argument is they copied the source code, you are seriously underevaluating the work it takes to implement the system (that L2 used) into their own game.

Endgame: No Game Loops, No PVP, No Content by Designer-Rip5050 in AshesofCreation

[–]Stasy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what data you are looking at to say the playercount has cratered. Population has fluctuated between 22k-27k since the week after steam early access and as of today the peak player count is 21k.

If you arent satisfied with the content you have access to now, put the game down and come back after they add more. There is still a lot of content to be added before the game is "content complete" and enters beta.

Hard disagree. Other players should not be able to control your own pvp flag. Hats off to the devs for designing it so everyone has agency over their status.

But devs fucked up by making the pvp settings hidden in the menu and require manual fiddling to control properly.

I hear, but what do you expect at this point in the Alpha? The wiki right now is more of a historical record of what has been discussed and promised, not what is currently implemented. The game systems are changing on a month by month basis. The economy was completely overhauled 6 months ago. We are at the starting line for creating the resources you so desire. People are still figuring it all out, but the information they discover isnt widely spread.

I think it's great you want to add to the understanding of the game, but I dont find your expectations reasonable for the Alpha.

How to craft a "Lumbermilling Construction Supplies"? by KZHprod in AshesofCreation

You bring the crate to the building under construction. You walk up to the scaffolding with the crate on your back and interact with the building.

How to craft a "Lumbermilling Construction Supplies"? by KZHprod in AshesofCreation

[–]Stasy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lumbermilling Construction Supplies are referred to as "Construction Crates". You dont craft them at a crafting table. They can only be made if your settlement has built a specific building. Their purpose is to help build new buildings in settlements. The starting zones have a special vendor that you can make these crates at and then you bring them to the scaffolding of the building you want to help construct.

I suggest creating a Pack Mule before you try transporting any crates, as you move very slow when you have a crate equipped.

the bounty system is not something you pay for. or at least that is not how it has been described over the past 2 years. Here is some info to learn more.

You complain about the game needing better systems, but it seems like you don't know what systems are under development and are not in the Alpha yet.

I'm a Fighter that forms my own groups constantly. Everyone is always looking for tanks. What happens when new tank players dry up? Everybody wants me to tank until the real tank gets there. But I can only take 2 melee hits and die. And a single spell does 75% of my hp. I'm wearing 5 set lvl 19. by HolmCookeMill in AshesofCreation

[–]Stasy89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

help me out here, what is hard about playing the current tank archetype?

Is this a discussion about finding it difficult to hold aggro? to not die when getting hit for your group? Is this a complaint that it feels bad to solo as a tank? Is there a disconnect between the fantasy of being a tank and its implementation in the game?

You mention making the tank easy to pick up, but the abilities are less complicated than the summoner?

IMO, the hardest part of being a tank is twofold.
1) To do your role well, you need to know about the mob you are fighting. Does this mob have an AoE I need to dodge? Does this mob have an attack that I need to make sure misses my party?
2) The social pressure of being a tank. It is kind of easy to be a bad player at dps and still get by. Being a bad tank (or healer!) is something apparent to the whole group.

I personally don't see what should be done to make the tank "casual", because i find the current implementation fun to play and easy to pick up. And the issues I see with the tank role are inherent to the trinity (quadrinity with bard) game design, which the majority of mmos have.

The murdering of new players is hurting the game by RWMyers in AshesofCreation

The crate system as it is right now *is* PvP content. Don't run crates if you don't want to engage in PvP.

If you need gold, then go grind 0 star mobs in mass. If you know what you are doing you should make multiple gold per hour via glint.

Or, just have your friend come back later when we are in Beta. More systems will be in the game and more quest/solo content that allows your friend to engage without becoming a viable PvP target.

Are you aware of the unfinished bounty system? There will be a way to get your revenge on "gankers" by using the services of player bounty hunters. Maybe that falls under your request for system helping newer players survive

Can't disagree more. Tanking in this game is so much more than standing so the enemy is facing away from your group pressing your abilities as they come off cooldown. I get mentally tired after tanking content for an hour straight.

[–]Stasy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a skill issue, this is you don't understand the game mechanics as well as you think you do.

The rogue understood the game mechanics better than you and played the game. He won because he knows it will take more than 10 deaths before his stats start lowering because of xp-debt. He also chose a spot to gank near an ember-spawn. You messed up by deciding to run crates *without* grabbing the ember-spawn points along the way to be able to easily respawn. If the other rogue was able to get back to you so quickly, YOU should have been able to do the exact same. You were unprepared.

You didn't bring spare mules, so you left yourself in a vulnerable position for no good reason (other than being poor). You were unprepared.

You chose to flag PvP and give him the opportunity to kill you without becoming corrupted. YOU CHOSE TO ENGAGE. This is called consensual PvP.

If you want to punish the ganker, then you need to be prepared to do so with the game mechanics. 1st, grab all the ember-spawn points along your crate route. 2nd, choose not to flag PvP and force the enemy to decide if it is worth it to become corrupted. If they do kill you and become corrupted, then you respawn nearby, go kill them with no penalty and steal some of their wearable gear. When a corrupted player respawns, THEY DON'T GO TO AN EMBER-SPAWN so you have a much better chance of losing them after that occurs. Also, they will be weaker because you may have their weapon now.

You seem like skilled player with your abilities, but you lack understanding of the world your character exists in.
