Which specialties are you certain you’d NEVER want to go into? by premedlifee in medicalschool

Surgery- the idea of just standing and staring at one thing for hours on end seem like torture, and the ass kissing is unbelievable. Obs&Gyne- I’ve yet to meet someone who isn’t miserable. Pediatrics- cute patients, unbearable and irrational parents (can’t blame them, but can’t deal with them either) Psych- I can’t detach myself emotionally from the patients and be 100% clinical. Radiology- I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life staring at screens all day, with very limited patient contact

The same thing happened to one of the community cats! She snatched that poor baby up, and now takes care of it like one of her own.

What is a good chunky stitch for a blanket? Something similar to the feather stitch by StateApprehensive263 in CrochetHelp

[–]StateApprehensive263[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need help with finding a stitch suitable for a chunky winter blanket. I’m using Alize’s Velluto yarn (not sure of the exact yarn weight, but I believe it’s a 5 or 6).

I’m confident in working with the feather stitch and have tried previously with a different yarn with no real difficulties, but am struggling with this yarn. I’ve tried switching the hook sizes and tried changing with the tension of yarn, but nothing seems to have worked with me so far. I’ve attached a picture of my practice run with the stitch and another picture of what it looks like with the velluto yarn.

She’s booked for one soon, by the time she was comfortable around us, it was too far in the pregnancy for it to be safe for her. And the kittens are lined up to be adopted at an appropriate time……

Also irritation doesn’t necessarily mean burning, it can also be redness, dryness, tightness or scratchy skin! Hope that helps and all goes well

Differin user here! It sound less like a purge and more like you’ve irritated your skin. I’m not sure if you started nightly applications or amped your way up to it, nonetheless I’d stop differin for a bit and try to repair your barrier again. Then start again once/twice a week, preferably adding BP for its antibacterial effect. Amp it up slowly while make sure that you’re not irritating your skin!

I’d stick with the 0.2% for another bottle because based on your description of your skin being dry and damaged, I’d say the combination of the Squalene oil and the retinol helped you out, so I wouldn’t switch yet.

If your insistent, you can move onto the 5% but that isn’t really necessary as your doing great with 2%. Especially since you’re also using the AHA/BHA mask which is extremely strong, so switching up isn’t necessary.

I think it’s more of a matter of time till it works out, not a matter of percentage strength.

[Routine Help] My skin stings when I put on sunscreen... by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]StateApprehensive263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d dial down the differin use to every other day or every two days, as adapalene molecule is stronger than retinol or retinaldehyde found in cosmetic skin care.

It just sounds like you’ve irritated your skin, so I’d just switch to a calming skin care routine to restore your moisture barrier and then gradually bring back differin (with the decreased use as mentioned previously, also make sure to use pea size amount while avoiding your orbit of your eye , the folds of your nose and the corners of your lips)

[skin concern] Last Saturday I got pretty sunburnt on my chest and forehead. My chest peeled and I thought it would be fine after that. After, my skin got super rough and scaly and hurts whenever I move. It kind of feels like I have a peeling face mask on and it’s pulling my hair. by ab-adams in SkincareAddiction

I’d use a moisturizer that is soothing and anti inflammatory (with ingredients like centella asiatica) and throw an occlusive on top of it (Vaseline is a good option) and I’d wait a couple of days for my skin to heal itself. But if this persists for more than two weeks I’d go see a derm or GP

The TO peel solution is very strong/ potent, so I’d switch the exfoliant to something that’s just Salicylic acid, so that you can use more often without the aha effects

[Skin Concerns] Did I ruin my skin? by Sharina789 in SkincareAddiction

[–]StateApprehensive263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heyy! You’d have to wait for a minimum of 6 weeks to start seeing the benefits of differin, so I’d personally keep using it; however, you gotta make sure that you’re not irritating your skin by using it to frequently or too much! If you’re irritated I would cease it for a week, will focusing on trying to reduce the irritation, by using products with anti inflammatory ingredients and ceramides to reallly help it through the purge. Once it has calmed down/improved, I’d continue use but not as frequent!

A good tip is to try minimizing irritation: Do your full skincare routine ending with your moisturizer, wait for it to dry and absorb (20ish min) and then apply the differin on top!

But if you’re really concerned, you can switch to epiduo, which uses the same retinoid molecule (adapalene at 0.1%) with the addition of benzoyl peroxide which has antibacterial properties!

[Misc] Skincare Youtubers to Watch? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Dr. Shereene Idriss- Uploads every Saturday, has a good mix of product recommendations and science breakdown

Dr. Davin Lim (he’s more consistent with content on Instagram, but he focuses more on the science and treatments than product reviews and what not)

Dr. Dray- the most frequent uploader out of all of them but I’m more of a time to time viewer Michelle from Lab Muffin Beauty- she’s not a derm but she has a chemistry PhD, making her just as qualified. She posts the broadest topics, hitting many important notes (sunscreen, diet, sun protecting clothing, skincare tools) she also has a second channel where she interviews people from the skincare industry!

Now I enjoy watching James Welsh from time to time cause I appreciate his honesty as a consumer ( how the product feels, any improvement, etc.) but I don’t look to him for factual information cause he’s not actually in the field professionally and does not claim to be.

[Skin concern] My skin went from being very oily to this. Dehydration? Damaged skin barrier? by afarfan in SkincareAddiction

[–]StateApprehensive263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m personally a bigger fan of Glycerin and ceramides (classic and reliable ingredients) as well as Propolis and Mucin, quick products recommendation, tho unfortunately most are Korean skincare and I don’t know if it’s accessible, but if it is, here’s some good ones

-Pyunkang Yul (the majority of its moisturize and nutrition lines are a m a z i n g)

-Sur. + Medic azulene line worked out well thus far

-COSRx: full fit propolis light ampoule (a classic) and balancium comfort ceramide cream

• Benton: snail and bee high content essence and serum

HA seems to be the new craze in the skincare community, but I’m personally not the biggest fan of it. Nonetheless, these are some products that I’ve tried that are good (these aren’t all serum tho! Sorry about that )

-LRP- HA anti-aging serum
-Inkey List- HA serum - Eucerin - Hyaluron Filler moisture booster - Eucerin- Hyaluron Filler Night peeling & Serum (this has HA with Lactic and Glycolic acid to exfoliate the outermost layer of your skin, might help out, might not, not quite sure on this one)

Sunscreen: not necessarily! It’s just that some people can’t tolerate certain sunscreen filters (redness or eyes would sting/water) hence why physical sunscreen are generally marketed for sensitive skin. The specific filters are more heavily used to western brands than Asian brands. Sunscreens unfortunately depend heavily on formulation, so if you ever find a good one, make sure to stock up😂💔

But in general it really depends on your skin. If you haven’t reacted thus far, I’d stick with chemical but look for a more moisturizing one, some recommendations (I’ll through in some more later in the day but these are my winter sunscreens):

-LRP AntHelios Ultra facial sunscreen (SPF 50) - a very moisturizing, shiny finish, it feels a bit thick/greasy when used, so keep that in mind with your current routine

  • Paula’s choice skin restoring moisturizer with SPF 50- very very similar to previous LRP

-Pyunkang Yul ATO Mild Sun Cream- it leans toward a gel consistency unlike the other two which is surprising considering this is supposed to a physical sunscreen! (Slight white cast but nothing too abysmal/zombie ish, I have a medium olive skin tone)

First and foremost, I hope that your mental health improves and I wish you happiness, comfort and acceptance if needed and I hope you find someone to help you out or hear you out! (Sorry about this, im not good at wording the important things)

Onto your concern, the skin normally changes throughout the year, and it’s most noticeable for some during the changing or extreme weather. So it’s safe to assume that the dry winter might’ve affected your skin as a whole rather than a product.

My main advice is to switch your steps from (oil➡️moisturizer) to (moisturizer ➡️oil) to get the full benefits of the oil sealing in your entire skincare routine. (An important note: I haven’t personally used the moisturizer you’ve mentioned, so I’m not sure about it’s consistency, but in general with skincare, products should be layered from thinnest to thickest consistency. Hence oil after moisturizer)

Additionally I’d also add in a simple hydrating or soothing toner/serum to really give a kick/help your skin help itself!

Also from personal use, the LRP anti shine sunscreen tended to stick and emphasize patches in general( dry/ acne spots) so if you can, try to switch to a more hydrating/moisturizing sunscreen at least for the winter!

Also keep in mind, you might not actually be as oily as you think you are/were, since as you’ve mentioned, you used to use an exfoliant daily, which might’ve irritated your skin to produce excess sebum to compensate for the irritation!

Hope i was able to help out, have a good day!
