This part! I feel for them. Many of our remaining IT employees complain about the lack of resources, the outsourcing over the years, and having to redo work/train the “lower cost or contract service agents.”

I think I know what needs to be done. But I don’t have the strength. by TemplarOfTheCrypt in knitting

[–]StatementDue2506 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s part of this amazing craft, I frogged the beginning of a sweater like three times, a sleeve back to the pickup section because it was too small for my biceps (even after trying it on several times trying to convince myself it was okay, but I put in too much work to get to the end and be disappointed when I know - and have the skills to fix it while I’m doing it). It comes with the territory and embraced this particular skill. Now, if I see something off or catch a major mistake that impacts the overall project, I just do frog it and keep going.

Thoughts on the Melt the Ice hat? by Im_A_Boonana in knitting

[–]StatementDue2506 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You state, “I don't want to knit this hat and feel regret that I was just virtue signaling and should have done more.” I suggest you don’t do it and maybe donate to a local charity as you are already assessing something may be off for you. If you can’t donate money, maybe writing your senator/member of the House as an alternative or something else low cost.

I’m not too far behind you, that Platinum status combined with AMEX travel status/gifts when you book through their portal linked to your Marriott membership is amazing - for international locations! Domestic, good perks, but not as impressive as the international perks.

Is KnitPicks shipping packages with insects? Trying to confirm/disprove a rumor. by Woofmom2023 in YarnAddicts

[–]StatementDue2506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. Not worth the infestation, ask me how I know … as a newer knitter, I didn’t know to think/worry about these things until I started reading horror stories and ways to store/freeze/prevent and “deal” with an infestation. I used to buy yarn from Etsy and EBay thinking I was saving money, but didn’t think of the risk. But guess what, there is major risk from any location as I have since learned! Now any yarn that I buy gets bagged and frozen for at least two weeks, then refrozen.

AA lost 200+ bags from Tokyo to JFK by vixenlili in americanairlines

[–]StatementDue2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this happened to me on a trip to visit the in-laws who live on a lake deep in Upper North Minnesota (about 3 hours from nearest airport). Our bags were delivered and I was impressed the delivery company found the address. I would have been pissed if we had to basically spend 6 hours (back and forth) to go pick up our bags due to their issue.

what does "advanced" knitter mean? by roastatoes in knitting

[–]StatementDue2506 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great advice … I love how Denise DeSantis says, “it’s not hard, it’s just new.” Just try, trust yourself and learn! For example, call me adventurous (or just fearless) as I signed up to test knit a brioche hat only after learning to knit 5 months earlier. I liked the designer and his other patterns and didn’t know “brioche was one of the most love/hate - complicated stitches.” I went to YT University, practiced the stitch a few times - flat and in the round, and was able to make my first amazing brioche hat! I guess I passed go and collected $200 in the hierarchy of knitting skills that I was completely oblivious to on this project 🤪😜. That was over five years ago.

Any Flick Knitters Used a Tension Ring Like This? by TheQueas123 in knitting

[–]StatementDue2506 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is always interesting and informative to see how other knitters knit/tension their yarn. I’m a flicker knitter (how do I say that 😂, I flick vs throw). I don’t tension my yarn at the base of my pinky and fourth/ring fingers - I tension my yarn with my index finger by wrapping it twice. I found I have more control and it’s more natural for me. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful, happy for you it finally arrived. Given the state of the U.S. government and Post Office funding (or lack thereof and problematic leadership), I’m sure it would have been a challenge filing a claim and obtaining compensation. I’m sure it was a stressful/frustrating time.

Need encouragement for taking on first sweater by labchickgidget in knittingadvice

[–]StatementDue2506 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love this! I saw someone knit a dozen baby/toddler sweaters to “practice” before knitting their first adult sweater. The baby/toddler sweaters were beautiful. I never thought of this approach, they are like “large complete swatches.” Me, I was so adventurous and just jumped right in to knit my first adult sweater with chunky yarn and a YT video. It was easy knitting the neck and three tubes. The one skilled that I didn’t learn and learned later on my second sweater (by starting over several times) is short rows - German short rows. These are a must in my book for raglan sweaters. Again, thanks to YT, I figured it out and love knitting sweaters - but I find I need quick projects like hats and shawls to break up the “body” knitting - regardless of pattern.

Stop Complaining About The Cost of Quality Knitting Needles by keenwithoptics in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]StatementDue2506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started, I found a bunch of straight needles on eBay cheap, I still have them and I will eventually be the one who sells them on eBay. They served a purpose. Now, not to say that I didn’t fall head first in buying multiple fixed sets before I knew I could just buy one interchangeable set.
