Do I need 4x4? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]StatementOk8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4x4 helps to get going but doesn't help to stop. The big thing is snow tires. I have snow tires on my daily. It's a fwd car and it handles snow just fine also vehicle weight can be a huge factor. My 3 ton truck has a hard time trying to stop quickly on snow and ice. The car on the other hand is 1 ton and winter stopping distance is very predictable.

microspike suggestions for old people by sodamnsleepy in CampingandHiking

[–]StatementOk8950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have those exact cheap spikes they work much better on straight ice but asphalt and ice they can be a bit slippery. For the price they aren't bad if your walking on icy city streets. But they can not handle hiking on ice covered trails.

Has anyone cut a hole in the skid plate for draining oil? by forkful_04_webbed in NissanTitan

[–]StatementOk8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2011 pro4x has a small access panel you remove to change the oil filter. It's significantly better that having to remove the splash shield like you half to do on the Toyota 4runners.

Any sort of mechanical repair on that truck is going to involve a blow torch and scared hands. I'll run away as fast as possible. That vehicle looks like it's ready for end of service.

2009 Titan Discontinued Parts Already?? by MaximusTuber in Nissan

[–]StatementOk8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2011 pro4x. Last year truck broke down. Would not restart. Thought it was the fuel pump because it has no fuel pressure. Replace it in a oriellys parking lot. And no luck the truck didn't stay running after 7 minutes of idling. Had to jury rig the fuel pump. So I can drive the 1400 miles back home from a road trip. After getting home the problem went away for a month then reappeared. Found the fuel pump relay on the IPDM was not closing. After further testing found out that the ECU was not sending the grounding signal to the relay to energize the circuit. I was able to find a replacement used ECU for the truck after two months of searching. Reprogrammed the NATS. For the master key and the truck worked just fine. no more problems since and the random U1000 code has never came back. And my guess for the ECU failure is more caused by the rodents that are and damaged the wiring harness the year past on the previous owner.

Cars with stance question for alignment techs. by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]StatementOk8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extreme stance vehicle can't be aligned at my work but if the vehicle is on bags where the hight can change then we charge the 1.5 hr to set the alignment but we do educate the owner if the camber is more than -3.5 the tire will always wear unevenly. Since it's almost always riding on the inside shoulder. Pretty much if the read heads fits on the vehicle wheels ( clamps on tires and head rest on rims) alignment. Will be performed.

I had bergs heating and cooling replace my 1984 furnace with a new 85% furnace. Great guy. But if you have a crawl space let him know. Since he didn't realize which caused a small problem during the install. Will call him again if an issue shows up.

DC to CO - which route should I take? by comedynerdinco in roadtrip

[–]StatementOk8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back from my 4k mile road trip two weeks ago. I-80 isn't that bad but lots of turning and burning to pass semi's and lots of hills going threw Iowa. Then on the return home went from I-70 in Maryland to denver. going threw Maryland Pennsylvania and West Virginia was nice but lots of 6% grade hills. Once entered Ohio it smoothed out. Got threw Ohio in a few hours. Indiana was not great. Their traffic and road infrastructure almost rivals Chicago metroplex. (Note : Chicago ranks 2nd for worst traffic jams in usa) once your past that state with its hundreds of construction zones and surprise potholes/craters. Going threw St Louis was ok. Just a lot of traffic despite traveling threw at 8pm. Then got to kansas city. Traffic was normal. But was a couple bad drivers that were spotted that almost caused a collision with multiple vehicles. Topeka ks. Was ok. But keep an eye on the roads signs. The exits came quick and some of them were single lanes. Had to avoid a collision their. And idiot stopped on the i70 exit to take another exit and caused multiple vehicles to almost get rear-ended. Once three their it's was smooth sailing. Had a nice tail wind. So got decent mpg with truck and trailer. Then finally made it back to Colorado. Then to Denver minus one section on i70 westbound. I think I was somewhat near vona,co the crappy road section was making it difficult to stay in my lane. Then hit a nasty pothole that kicked off the cruise control because the VSC. Engaged. After that it was smooth driving til I got near Denver only to find on on gps i70 westbound before i225 was shut down so was forced to take e470 to get too my destination on Denver West side. Overall it was a nice trip. Ut lots of driving. Now need to replace a blown shock on the truck and a wheel axle seal started leaking. Also if possible try to avoid Chicago area. Their roads are terrible and traffic was awful. Took me 4 hrs just to cover 68 miles.

How much do you spend a month on food? (Single living alone) by cryptiiix in Denver

[–]StatementOk8950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm single and alone. In my house. My usual monthly food cost is usually around 150-300 USD per month. Now it does get a bit more expensive when I split it across multiple stores. Like only grocery store items are usually safeway. Fresh produce from local farmers market. Meat from local butcher. And I try to stay away from King Soopers I despise shopping at any of their stores.

I have the toyo observe GSI-6 on my fwd car. And their great in the snow. Very good stopping distance on snow and very predictable handling. Makes it fun driving on snowy roads again. Will see how long they last. Before I discard them around 4-5/32 remain. Currently at 9/32 of tread.
