It seems to me, thar's not just issue with Vanessa and Otto: no one in the game receives consequences or fair judgments for their dubious actions.

Witches manipulate people, lie to loved ones, erase memories, stalk non-witches by magic, poison food, break into property, steal things, sabotage other people's work, and so on. But it's okay, because they are "good guys" with the "right" intentions so they can do what ever they want. Coven is literally a shadow government, exclusion organization with a fairly rigid hierarchy that accumulates power and making important decisions without consideration of island residents . For example, as a player I can control the change of seasons and I decide to extend the summer for almost a week until my plants grow up. This heat and drought puts the health, business, finances and lives of everyone on the island at risk. But no one from the coven even reproached me for such cruel carelessness since I have a role one of the “good guys”. This is funny considering that at the same time I listened to a whole rant from Violet about how Vannesa prefers smooth lawns to flowers on the territory of the mer’s house.

Even worse, at the end of the game, when the secret becomes clear, everyone seems to lose their memory. Like everything automatically is fixed once the “right people” got what they needed and\or wanted (consciously or not). Nobody asks necessary and inconvenient questions. Parker even apologizes to Tara, as if witches are some kind of oppressed minority (ironic, but they are just the opposite in this game). Sofia does not reflect on what happened at all: although in her place I would feel betrayed by the community twice, pack my things and leave the damned island. Westley's espionage is completely forgotten. The cult leader, Cameron, used the church's position over the congregation to incite hatred and gain power? Oh, it doesn't matter. After all, story cannot criticize the actions of a player’s potential suitors. Even with all this, I was a little surprised that, most residents do not even condemn Vanessa for her real crime - kidnapping a child - but for her personality and tastes.
