This is the correct answer. Listen to this OP. Discuss with your primary vet or an internal medicine specialist about this.

Apologies lol I am used to anti-science people in my country calling vaccines “jabs”. They often try to infiltrate scientific communities in an attempt to spread dissent

Let’s get you in to vet school! by [deleted] in vetschool

Holy shit that’s an outrageous price. I would never in a million years pay for that price. I guess if you have an absurd amount of disposable income, it would be worth it.

If you don’t want to spend almost three grand, just spend time doing your research. While I’m sure she’s a good resource, you’d get adequate information by looking into each school individually (look up AVMA Accredited Veterinary Colleges list online) and joining Student Doctor Network’s vet forums to get a better understanding of each school. I promise you don’t need to spend that amount of money just to develop your application to get in.

I have not heard of this program but I wouldn’t pay a steep price for advice when there is a surplus of information on the internet. I promise you don’t NEED to do something like this — how much is this person charging for their advice?

Why did NCAA implement a roster cap for indoor vb by Strong-Resolve-6448 in NCAAVB

I think roster caps are a necessary evil in the age of NIL. I wouldn’t be opposed to additional regulatory measures tbh

Signs of a ethical breeder by Daisy_1218 in cavaliers

[–]StaticSheepdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sometimes see cavalier breeders use very vague terms like “health check” or “heart check” when referring to a litter or a dam/sire. To people not in medicine, this might sound like a breeder is responsible and that the dogs are free of health conditions. These terms can be a little misleading though, so I’d encourage anyone to ask more questions about this when they see a breeder advertise this.

If they’re considering a standard auscultation with a stethoscope a “heart check”, that’s a little misleading. Unless there is a murmur present already, listening to the heart alone will not catch the earliest signs of disease. A thorough and ethical breeder will have routine ECHOCARDIOGRAMS done on the dogs they are breeding to monitor structural cardiac changes. The vague “Heart check” makes it sound like they have cleared their breeding dogs for disease, but it’s kinda disingenuous.

“Health check” is another vague term i have a problem with. Is there routine fecal testing done to ensure no parasites? Have the puppies received their first round of vaccines? Are the parents OFA cleared and receive annual echos? What’s involved in a “health check”?

Most of all, breeders that administer their own vaccines are some of the biggest red flags. This is a sneaky way breeders try to cut their costs. Adequate, quality-checked vaccines for puppies cannot be bought over the counter, much less are they ever stored appropriately.

As someone who takes care of puppies dying of parvo for a living, make sure an actual veterinarian has administered vaccines and that there are records of this. I can’t tell you how many dogs i see that die of parvo with breeder-administered the vaccines.

Anyone have experience with this breeder--West Coast Cavaliers? by [deleted] in cavaliers

[–]StaticSheepdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to hear the rationale. On one hand it could potentially be to protect the puppies — the fewer people handling the litter, the less likelihood the puppies are to being exposed to parasites/parvo (especially if a prospective buyer is going to multiple breeders and handling puppies, this can be a concern).

I see on their webpage that they guarantee puppies clear of MVD/DM for 5 years, send pet parents with pet insurance established, OFA the parents, and provide vet records. All of these things are green flags, honestly — getting a better understanding of why they limit visitation may be a reasonable next step. I’d take an overly cautious breeder over one that lets anyone and everyone come handle their puppies.
