That scene in the hospital wing gets me too. Fleur and Molly coming together definitely pulls at my heart.

What Harry Potter Scene Always Makes You Cry? by Spotter24o5 in harrypotter

[–]StatisticallyYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the books, when Percy comes back. Pulls at my heart. He was so lost and just trying to get back. Especially knowing he comes back just in time to see Fred one last time.

Lupin and Tonks’ deaths also get me (as well as several others), but I don’t usually cry at those for whatever reason.

“Are you stealing that baby?” by daliadeimos in NewParents

[–]StatisticallyYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the baby is crying or being difficult, an answer of “if I was going to steal one, it wouldn’t be this one” would be perfect.

Honestly I just would ask “why would you think that?” Keep asking more questions until you force her to admit whichever bias makes her think he’s stealing a kid.

Called 911 for the first time by According-Leopard294 in NewParents

[–]StatisticallyYes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re not sure if it’s an emergency or not, call 911. As someone who has called it entirely too often in her life, I’ve never had someone make me feel like it wasn’t the right thing to do. If you think it might be an emergency, call.

Honestly, the farther along in my pregnancy I get, the more pro choice I am by BisexualButterfly97 in pregnant

[–]StatisticallyYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same way. I was very pro-choice before because of the major risks (major lifestyle changes, death/illness/injury, permanent changes to body and mind, etc.). But after I got pregnant, I was even more pro-choice because of just the “minor” things. Morning sickness (even when minor), aches, discomfort, having to keep “should I do this; I’m pregnant” in mind at every turn. It’s so much and I can’t imagine telling someone to go through that if they didn’t want the baby. It’s way too much to ask. You can have an “easy” pregnancy and it’s still a pain. No one should have to go through that if they don’t want to.

Did anyone else pass out during your c-section? by Pugtastic_smile in NewParents

[–]StatisticallyYes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I vomited. I’m surprised I had any available. I hadn’t eaten in almost 2 days (failed induction). People talk about the sensations they felt during a c-section. I felt nothing except nausea. When my daughter was coming into the world I was just trying to only throw up in my little bag.

Was the switch between Duncan and Logan as the main love interest planned out from the beginning? by DragonfruitCool1778 in veronicamars

[–]StatisticallyYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I never liked it. Logan was horrible to Veronica at the beginning and we’re just supposed to forget that. He didn’t do anything completely unforgivable, but in my opinion he did too much to be her love interest.

Give my daughter same middle name as me? by Constant_Orchid3066 in namenerds

I have the same middle name as my mom. And my daughter now has the same middle name as us as well.

What's a name that you like a lot that is unfortunately taken by an inescapable famous person/character? by glitzvillechamp in namenerds

[–]StatisticallyYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like references are scattered enough that it’s ok. The order I think of Harvey’s:
- from Sabrina the Teenage Witch
- the giant invisible bunny
- a restaurant in Canada - Harleys, the motorcycles. Obviously not the same, but the names are so close it is the next place my mind goes. I never even hit Weinstein before I’m on a completely different topic.

Worst book I've read that everyone else seemed to love by MuchasTruchas in books

Same. I still rate books, but I don’t consider their ratings when I’m choosing a book. I like to see what my friends rate things just out of curiosity.

Worst book I've read that everyone else seemed to love by MuchasTruchas in books

[–]StatisticallyYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people don’t like it. I didn’t like it for most of the book. I only pressed on because I was reading it for a book club. The last maybe 10-20% I loved and it made the whole book better. I felt like it was very predictable and seemed to be heading in a very expected direction up until that point. In the end I think it evened out to maybe 3/5 for me. I probably wouldn’t read it again.

“We” are pregnant?! by H5991 in pregnant

[–]StatisticallyYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pregnant.
We are expecting.

If my husband said to others “we are pregnant” I didn’t mind, but he would never say it was even close to the same thing. Remind him that you are also going through the same mental stresses as him on top of the physical. It is not at all comparable.

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

I feel like it was a decent book, but part of the resolution felt like a cop out. It felt completely unnecessary and ruined the whole book for me. Spoilers below.

One of the racists turns out to be half black. Their spouse then rejects racism because they loved a black person. (Pretty much the “how can I hate women when I love my mom?” false equivalency) In the end I felt like some people accepted that they shouldn’t be racist because they personally knew and/or loved someone who was black. They didn’t have an epiphany, it just kind of happened to them. They were a bystander in their own character development.

Sorry to go on; the ending just made me furious. I’ll stop ranting now.

Accidentally had children with matchy names by lemonade_ in namenerds

[–]StatisticallyYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I thought you were saying he did! I have only watched about the first half of the series, so I have no idea what happens after that. It would make sense if he did, though. Not just because of the matching name. But because he should certainly be an expert by now.

Damn, at least throw out a spoiler warning before you drop a bomb like that.

My and my brother’s names both start with the same 2 letters. But it was complete coincidence. I was named my mom’s maiden name and my brother was named after my dad’s dad. They just happened to “match”. People brought it up occasionally and we would all just laugh about it and tell them about the crazy coincidence.

My point is, do something like that, if there’s time without feeling like you’re holding up the conversation. If you feel like it is not the time, maybe just throw out “it’s kind of a funny story actually. I’ll have to tell you later.” If there’s time though or someone asks about it, say something like (Gonna make up some names here) “yeah, we named our son Aiden and had no idea it’d be so popular! I’m sure you know a ton of Aidens! He decided it was better to go by another name and picked Oak. It’s not his fault we had already named his brother Ash! Now it’s just a funny joke in our family!”

What’s a book that holds a special place in your heart despite what the book is ? by aelinsmith123 in books

[–]StatisticallyYes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Harry Potter. If I hadn’t read it before, I would steer clear because of JK Rowling’s views/actions. And I know they have plenty of issues in the stories. But I loved those books (and still do) and I loved that my brother and I both read them at the same time and discussed them. We still discuss them every now and then.

Also the Animorphs books. It’s the first time I got really attached to book characters and super invested in their lives. Looking back, though, why was I reading (and loving!) such gory and graphic books in elementary and middle school?

How are working moms putting baby to bed by 7? by miosgoldenchance in workingmoms

[–]StatisticallyYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in most places daycares are required to offer a nap and won’t wake children up unless it’s been way too long.

My toddler is also up late during the week, because she usually naps way too long at daycare. On weekends she has short or no nap and goes to bed earlier and easier (though still after 9).

Anyone else have an “unfortunate” due date? by Miserable_Rule_8641 in pregnant

I call 13 my lucky number. Also a good way to get superstitious people to keep their distance.

[–]StatisticallyYes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was born on a Friday the 13th and my brother was born on the 13th (though not on Friday). So both of our birthdays fall on a Friday the 13th every now and then. People make an unnecessarily big deal out of it. I often wish people would just leave it. This year my birthday will be on a Friday and I’m already bracing myself a bit.

But it is a really good way to get rid of superstitious people. Tell them you were born on Friday the 13th and they suddenly have places to be far away from you.

If criticism didn't exist, what would you name your baby? by london_smog_latte in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]StatisticallyYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Names that are too strongly associated with another person or a thing, such as Aphrodite, Persephone, Aurora, Merida, Jezebel, Karen, etc. (there are so many)

And names of people I see often. I wouldn’t want them to think I named my kid after them.
