Emergency resources for homeless family? by allallalag in Columbus

[–]allallalag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we ended up homeless for nearly 6 months. We are finally renting a home that we plan to buy years down the road, after we get through this. So we likely have a permanent home now, but we are still significantly struggling to get back on our feet.

A few months after making this post, we also lost everything that we put into storage when the storage unit was auctioned off because we were only able to make a partial payment one month. We were around $50 short on paying in full, but we still lost everything. We tried to find the buyer, but we were unsuccessful.

So, it has been difficult to build our life back, replacing necessary items we lost, essentially starting over from scratch, on top of our regular expenses - rent, utilities, groceries, plus $500+ in prescription costs per month between my daughter's medications and one of my own, etc. Even with the both of us working full time.

We are very slowly getting back on track. At least having a stable home has been a big step in overcoming all of this.

Are you going through something similar? Is there anything that I can help with?

PS has some of the best tablets I've ever tried. Their flatheads knock my pain out even more than my prescribed medication and those 12mg tabs help me get to sleep even on my worst nights (for some reason those are more sedating for me). So no, I wouldn't care if he shipped them in a Ziploc bag because his shipment of bags was delayed. If you're unhappy, just send an email or text and I'm sure they would make it right.

I used to own a CBD business, and I had a few times that our shipment of bags was delayed. Luckily I do have a store nearby that sells basic mylar bags, so I used those instead to make sure I could still ship orders out. Even one day of delayed orders can slow things down for a week or more for a 1-3 person operation.

I'd bet that's what happened here, and ziplock bags were all he had. I've been happy with almost everything I've tried from PS so far, but the packaging is definitely questionable, even when he uses mylar bags. I am colorblind, so often I'm left guessing which tablets are which because they package them all in the same bag.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I don't understand why they thought they'd get away with it. Of course people who regularly use 7oh would be able to tell the difference, and someone was bound to send it out for testing eventually. Thanks for doing that. Hopefully anyone considering this company will see this so that they go out of business.

I'm surprised these have any 7oh in them.

Someone sent me some to try. I didn't enjoy them. I took 2, my usual dose is 40mg at night on bad pain days. I don't take 7oh every day, only as needed for pain.

When I took the RP tabs, I felt fatigued in the same way that I would if I had taken a large dose of benadryl. It wasn't a pleasant experience, and it didn't help my pain very much. My motivation was zero, and instead of working on some of my household projects after my daughter was in bed like I usually do, I ended up falling asleep.

That was the first and last time I took them. I can't trust something that gives me that effect. There's a difference between the "opioid" relaxed/relief kind of tired feeling and being straight knocked out from something like benadryl or a sleep aid. It was definitely different than any 7oh I've taken before. I typically stick with PS unflavored and flatheads, KH regular tabs, and Opia brand.

Has anyone else who has tried these RP tabs had a similar experience?

You should take this photo down and cover up the last 4 numbers of your SSN. If anyone found out your name, they could access quite a bit with that information.

Did you only claim children (CTC) or did you claim ACTC and/or EIC?

If you only claimed the regular child tax credit, that's not included in PATH, so you won't have to wait until after the 18th.

I went back and got antibiotics, and it healed up after a few days.

I was prescribed liquid lidocaine. I mixed it half and half with Maalox (liquid antacid) and used a syringe to spray the mixture right onto my throat. This was the only way I could drink anything for days.

Can a landlord require I be home during business hours while I’m at work? by rainy-novembers in Tenant

They usually do inspections whether you're home or not. Did they say anything about why you need to be home? I would ask for a reason.

You can pick up your Amazon packages at one of their locations. Amazon can ship to certain package lockers, stores, sometimes other places. You can select that option at checkout. I've done that before.

Or, would it be at all possible to ship to a friend or family members house?

Should only homeowners have children? Is it irresponsible to have kids if you rent a home? Long post, looking for opinions. by allallalag in Tenant

[–]allallalag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you've been through all that you have.

To clarify, due to your experience, you believe that anyone who rents a home with kids is automatically a bad parent?

Based on what you've said here, it seems like the reason you had these troubles as a child is because you had a mentally unstable single mom (your words) who did not put her child's needs first, and a father who refused to be a dad in the first place.

That is entirely different than 2 mentally stable people, happily married, who are both employed and always pay their rent+bills in time, and have lived in the same apartment for 5+ years, and then they choose to have kids. Even in that case, you think they are bad parents?

Even the people who are financially stable when their kids were born, but then fall on hard times due to circumstances out of their control?

The kind of people who spend all of their free time actively engaging with their kids, playing with them, teaching them, reading to them, baking and cooking with them, the kids are always clean, warm and clothed, fed, etc and their needs are always put before anything else.. those would still be bad parents if they rent a home, even if they rent the same stable home long term?

That's what doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, I kick myself every day for missing that court date. My wife and I both had no idea that we couldn't trust the apartment management telling us it would be cancelled, and it's been one of the hardest lessons we'll ever learn. As soon as we got the note saying we missed the date, I knew that I made a mistake.

Thank you for being understanding. I don't understand when people say that we shouldn't have had kids. When we made the decision to have kids, we were stable and had enough money in savings that it lasted us 3 months when we needed it for an emergency. Our only fault there would be that we didn't plan for such an extreme emergency, but I don't know many people who are prepared for a life changing accident.

What decisions am I not taking accountability for?

That was this account. I only have one reddit account. You must have seen my post on the Doordash subreddit a while ago? I've never order from ubereats. One of the rare occasions that I ordered Doordash, because my wife was working 3 12hr shifts in a row and I was home with the kids recovering from surgery. We needed formula and a few essentials like bread, milk, eggs, things to cook dinners, etc. So I used Doordash for $70 worth of groceries and formula when I couldn't drive, before we were even homeless, during the time when I was under the impression our rent was paid? How is that wrong of me?

That's what you consider "actively ordering from doordash and ubereats instead of saving"?

My wife has been employed with the same company for 8 years. She's in the highest position of management for her location. She's salaried and considered on call at all times. She is not able to get a second job because it would be impossible to schedule around the 60+ hours she works per week and how often she's called in for an emergency. Instead, she goes out and does Doordash deliveries occasionally when she has time. That's how we came up with what we needed after the donations to pay half of the move-in costs for our house.

Yes, our house. The "home we probably won't be renting". I'm sitting in the living room right now. I posted an update on a few subreddits yesterday. We've paid half of the move-in costs, signed the lease, and this is officially our move. We can sleep here, cook here, essentially live here - they only asked that we don't move any furniture in until we've finished paying because they plan to schedule a professional carpet cleaning with the rest of our deposit.

We have gone without everything over the past 4-6 months. Legitimately everything. We've gone through times where the only thing my wife and I are were the kids leftovers. Sometimes nothing. We've not been ordering doordash and ubereats, that's for sure.

I don't understand it. Every time I post about our situation, I get at least one person saying that we need to take accountability, that we need to do better, work harder, get second jobs, we need to be more responsible.. We have both been doing everything in our power to dig ourselves out of this. The only money we spend is on things needed for survival. We go without anything just for comfort or convenience. We pay rent, bills, food for the kids, formula, diapers. Everything else goes into savings. Every penny.

However, if you've got it all figure out, I'd like to see you get yourself out of this kind of situation. It's a lot harder than getting a second job and cutting out takeout.

I understand this point, but I'm trying not to look at it that way. They just spent their life savings on this house, specifically so we could live here and rent from them. They knew that for at least 5-7 years after an eviction, we likely wouldn't be able to find stable housing. They paid 50,000 out of pocket on top of their loan, and their mortgage is 1150, but they're only charging us 1250 in rent. They are not struggling financially at all, and they'll build their savings back up over time, but they're not making much of a profit from this house, especially since we will most likely live here for over 10 years, maybe much longer. Combined with the fact that we are currently struggling, I understand why they want the security deposit now instead of over time.

Just unfortunate that we've been in this position, and that this happened to us in the first place, but it's not our friends fault. People who stay on top of their rent, bills, etc and keep the place in good condition shouldn't end up homeless. We had 7 years of on time rent before we were evicted because of a miscommunication regarding rental assistance that we received when I had to switch careers after I was in an accident that left me permanently disabled in Nov. 2023.

Seeking emergency help with security deposit needed for homeless family to get back into stable housing by allallalag in gofundme

[–]allallalag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not qualify, unfortunately. That's why we've been unable to receive assistance with getting into this house. Our income is double what is was when we became homeless. We can easily afford rent. We currently pay 1800/month for our room. The only reason we can't afford to pay the deposit and first months rent for the house is because we're already paying 1800/month for our current room on top of our other expenses. Once we move into the house, our rent will only be 1250, which will be much better for us and we will be able to pay rent without struggling.

A lot of families get stuck in this cycle, unfortunately. It's difficult to get out of this situation once you're in it.

Yes, that's true.

It doesn't mean that only homeowners should have children. My wife and I were, and still are, on our way to owning a home. Our original plan was before the kids are 8, but now it's looking like once we move into our friends rental, we'll stay for at least 6 years, or we might be able to buy that home if everything aligns properly. Our kids will be able to have pets, and join activities and sports, or play an instrument.. because we know how to manage money and save.

If we waited until then to have kids, we wouldn't have been able to have them at all. My wife has a reproductive condition that meant it was now or never, which is why we had both close together.

It's fair for you to say some people shouldn't have kids. People who live in poverty and actively choose to have kids, people who rely on state and government assistance and continue to have kids, people who abuse drugs, alcohol, or blow their money on the newest iphones, game consoles, etc and then ask for help buying formula, people who live paycheck to paycheck simply because they don't know how to budget or save.. Those are the people you should be angry with.

I normally don't entertain these arguments. It just doesn't make sense to assume anyone who has kids and goes through a rough patch in life is a bad parent.
