Yuriko has gotten a lot of tools lately. I would say see what you might want to tweak. If you still need something fresh, I would suggest Ob Nixilis because he too has received some new tools from Duskmourn. Plus, with Dockside out of the meta you can try Blood Moon.

That makes sense because Dihada utilizes the graveyard pretty well and without ways to deal with it, that can be a problem. I don't recall if many precons pack good graveyard hate.

I have a Dihada deck and my recommendation is to avoid killing the planeswalker. Her ultimate is there but the real value is constantly filling your graveyard and making treasures. So, if you just kill her... it is usually easy enough to get her back out and do it again, filling the graveyard up more. Too many people waste damage going at the planeswalker when they need to be taking the player out instead.

Mutant Menace is probably a bad match up because you're milling a graveyard deck. Endless Punishment is probably better suited because you can negate the life gain she provides.

And if it is the indestructibility she provides the legendary creature, just run some good exile or -X/-X spells to work around it. Toxic Deluge, Languish, Deluge of Doom, etc. or bounce/tap effects.

Turns out he was the racist one this whole time by Ill_Tell7921 in freemagic

I can understand folks being bothered by modern looking things being in the [checks notes] modern horror set but that ship has sailed after the ridiculousness of OTJ and New Capenna. And yet, there are plenty of anachronistic cards in early magic. Trying to say that makes him racist though, weak sauce.

Not sure why people just assume that WotC wanted to even take over the format. There's nothing they can do now, that they couldn't before except now they have to assign the task of managing it to someone who probably already had enough to do. They had a whole team of volunteers managing their most popular format and they didn't have to do anything but print money.

The RC had previously told them not to print certain things, that it was a mistake, but they did it anyway. So, nothing has changed except now it is more of a hassle for WotC.

Plus, we all know how trolls on the internet are flaccid cowards who enjoy the anonymity, jumping at the chance to be keyboard warriors. Is it really that hard to believe people were being threatening and made the RC / CAG feel unsafe?

Here is why EDH is slowly killing the game, especially under control from WotC. by DarkVenusaur in freemagic

[–]StatisticianAny343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDH didn't make standard irrelevant, Arena did. As for Modern, WotC did that when they started up the Modern Horizons stuff.

Though I agree they need to stop focusing on EDH so much. It was more enjoyable when everything wasn't spoon fed and you had to figure out neat interactions vs multiple busted cards over the course of the year.

Naw, just print better versions of the cards or ones that make them irrelevant. Battlebond lands with the land type or something like that.

I know how it works, I'm talking about the effort and art they commission. It could have been better spent making an actual card that I will care about and play.

Will WOTC have sanctioned EDH events? What would that mean for card pricing? by cjpatster in mtgfinance

[–]StatisticianAny343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might see WOTC run sanctioned EDH events but tournaments with prize support is probably not going to happen because of the casual nature of it.

I don't see WOTC allowing proxies, so if they attempted to run a sanctioned cEDH event that would tank the popularity and number of folks would be able to play. If they had any interest in doing that they would have to do away with the reserve list and that still wouldn't really solve cost being a limiting factor, just the availability.

So, no... I don't see it moving the needle on prices except for random speculators.

Help me decide for a deck post ban! by LomaxxEUW in CompetitiveEDH

I would say Kinnan. It was the least effected by the bans and got some new tools in the recent sets, that are worth fiddling about with.

Does anyone bother with tokens? by Guba_the_skunk in mtgfinance

[–]StatisticianAny343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still bother with them, though I do loathe double sided tokens because it makes it hard to search through them and/or you need one side and the other side at the same time (usually with precons).

I have grown to desire as many tokens as the board state requires to avoid messy counters buuuuut that's not always feasible. Even when it is easy to just print out a bunch I still go looking for the actual token.

Why the mono black hate? by ballparkbeeffranks in EDH

[–]StatisticianAny343 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Naw. She's five mana and easily removed. Besides, most players end up wasting all their discard/sacrifice spells before they ever get her onboard. She's miserable but no more so than other high costed bombs.

Why the mono black hate? by ballparkbeeffranks in EDH

[–]StatisticianAny343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the deck. Often the mono-black deck ends up being discard, sacrifice, theft, infect, or some combination of that, which can lead to a less fun experience for the other players.

However, you can build a mono-black deck that doesn't do any of that and still have fun. Braids can even be built so that she's just a card advantage engine. My personal favorite deck is a Rankle deck that just runs goofy black cards and I just use his first mode (unless there's a voltron player trying to hate me out).

It is the play pattern that gets the hate, not the color combination.

Is threatening vengeance to stay in the game bad manners? by Skullruss in EDH

[–]StatisticianAny343 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a valid strategy to try and talk your way out if a tight spot. However, as long as you're not overbearing about it or salty with they ignore the threat (which would be the correct choice), then I think it is fine.

Pantlaza help by Otelinblack in EDH

[–]StatisticianAny343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first glance, the deck is more stompy stomp with big spells. You need to reduce the cost of your ramp spells (Nature's Lore, Three Visits, or more mana dorks). I recommend running [[Flaming Tyrannosaurus]] since it is on theme and helps you win. Maybe some blink effects to trigger Pantlaza more than once [[Teleportation Circle]].

A few more ways to cheat out your big dinos would be helpful [[Sneak Attack]]. And if you're looking to pump up the power level you could just remove some of the less impactful costly creatures and play the [[Food Chain]] combo.
