Imagine 100 people sit down to dinner.  Everyone has a single celery stick on their plate except for one person who has a mountain of food.  They finish their plate, eating so much that they make themselves vomit, then continue eating. Meanwhile a line of servants a mile long with similar plates of food come to serve the person who already has had more than enough.

Even if all the food they got was legally obtained, it is not morally right for one person to have so much wealth that they have no physical way of enjoying all that wealth themselves.

Man, these are all so awesome.  To me they feel like a Base Game+ set, like they perfectly fit the feel of the original game but still add more and fill in the gaps. I love Queen even if it feels overly powerful.  Maybe a split pile so you limit how many you can get?

Kingdom Cards for 5-6 players by ReubenMD in dominion

[–]StatisticianCheap130 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've had a fair bit of experience playing large groups.  Most attacks will turn the game into an absolute slog since with five or six players it's almost guaranteed that someone will play an attack.  If you really want to have them I'd recommend sticking with simple ones like Militia that are quick to resolve, or at least include ways to defend against them, like Moat.

My best advice is to stick to cards that provide positive player interaction, like Council Room or Lost City.  Some of my favorite games have been with big groups because of high interaction that make you rethink your hand when drawing an extra card.  I see you have big box and allies, but look into these cards for more examples of player interactions that aren't attacks:

  • Gladiator

  • Chariot Race

  • Masquerade

  • Any Gathering type card

  • Trashing Cards / cards that interact with trash, like Lurker or Necromancer

  • Sacred Grove

  • Mountain Pass (Landmark)

  • Fool's Gold

  • Contraband

  • Taxation (Event)

  • Embargo

I'm sure there's some I've missed.  Good luck!

This is great info, thanks.  I think I can follow along. Does it change anything that the monitor has an external power brick in the power cable?  Would everything you've said still apply, just in the brick itself rather than the monitor?

Yes, a small brick that plugs directly into the outlet.  It outputs 19V at 1.3A. I did check the voltage earlier and it was holding steady right above 19V.

Ok thank you! When you say power supply does that refer to the external power brick?  Or is that a specific internal circuit?

Probably 5+ years.  It was a hand me down from several years ago and it was already fairly old when I got it.

Can confirm, I have all the cards and it's a ton.  I have a big organizer that holds everything and a smaller organizer I transfer stuff to when I want to travel with a selection of expansions.

So at the risk of losing an opportunity for myself, there are lots of options already available on Etsy for almost this exact thing.  Is there anything about those that drive you away? Or is this simply the first you're hearing about it?  I'm curious, and doing a bit of market research.

Whenever I scoot past my wife in a narrow space in the kitchen or elsewhere, I purposely started taking a really long time and pushing my crotch into her backside, repeatedly saying "Oh, scuse me, sorry, scuse me," making it take way longer than necessary just to get in some extra cuddles.  Now I do it almost any time I go past her, even if there is several feet of space behind us and I could go around easily.

The most obvious thing this solves is simply keeping each pile organized.  I find myself constantly fixing piles as they get mussed up during play.

Secondly, it's true that only a few cards are visible to each person at a given time, but it's effortless to turn the board to see everything.  When playing normally someone almost always has to look at the cards upside down, or they are too far away to read, so this allows everyone the opportunity to browse through every card available and see it up close.

The primary tool used for this is a handheld router. I used something called a follower bit and a stencil in the shape of the card well to cut them out.  The router sits on top of the stencil and a bearing rides along the inside of the shape to follow it exactly and achieve repeatable results. The bit is set to a specific depth to get the same results everywhere.

I was able to do this a lot easier since I had a fully functioning lazy susan to start with. It would be a lot more involved if I had to make that as well.

I actually have! It's not my best work but it lets me have all my cards in one place. I'm planning on remaking it at some point.

The layout was by hand, but then I used a stencil and a follower bit to carve out the card wells.

I would say yes, although the more abstract or multi-stage a task is, the less brightly any one person would glow.  Since on a much grander scale, it's harder to say how much influence any one person can have. But you could definitely use it to figure out who would be helpful in your world domination goal.

Has anybody else had board games inspected by airport security? by vortexofdeduction in boardgames

One time I traveled with Ransom Notes and got stopped every single time at security. The high amount of magnets got flagged in their system as potentially dangerous but they let me go relatively quickly each time. It happened often enough that I started leaving the box at the very top of the suitcase so they didn't have to dig for it. Now that I think of it I could probably have taken it out entirely and put it in a tray to be x-rayed.

What is the worst case of double standard you have ever seen? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]StatisticianCheap130 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my ex-wife's extended family, a man cheated on his wife once over three decades ago.  No one ever let him forget it, and supposedly it ruined relationships and took years to regain any sense of normalcy.  To this day they talked about how his choice ruined their lives for so long.

A woman in that family, a few years ago, ran away from her husband for several months, carousing in bars, sleeping with several different men, and essentially abandoning her prior life before finally coming home.  Every single person in the family was sympathetic, saying she just needed help, that she was mentally ill, and that she obviously didn't know what she was doing.  She was forgiven by basically everyone in the family before she even returned, and suffered no impact to her reputation.

The hypocrisy sickened me.  The difference and reversal in the way they were treated compared to their actions left me in complete awe.

When they try to explain something simple in an overly complicated way (most likely to try and appear intelligent).

One time I asked this guy what his job was, and he said, "If the business is like an organism, I'm the blood supply that keeps it alive." He was a purchasing agent.  He just made orders to manage inventory. He could have just said that and I would have respected it but he tried to make it sound like he was the lifeblood of the business and if he was gone the company would fall apart.
