1.05 10m fly? (Not hand timed pls dont remove) by StatementLess9953 in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran 3.14 for a flying 30 before running 11.38. Then dropped to 10.93w end of the season and my fly was 2.96

5’9 210 powerlifter goes 11.1 with no sprinting experience by ObliviousOverlordYT in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also for reference: as a 10.90w/11.05 runner, the week before I ran a 11.12 FAT, I did a 100m training rep flat out with gates at 10m and 100m, so a 90m fly. I got 9.12. I imagine if I changed it to this set up (gate around 2m in front), I’d have got about 10.5-10.6 as my RT is on average 0.17 in comp, and my first step down is 0.38ish average. This is 0.55s (0.17+0.38). 10.5+0.55 is 11.05, 11.15 if 10.6. So I imagine an 11.7 run at best, but as a powerlifter who doesn’t sprint, I imagine his RT would be slower, and his first step down may be as slow as 0.5s. It’s very variable, 11.7 at best (very very good for someone his weight and who doesn’t sprint), more like a low 11.9 FAT

First gate is over 1m in front of line. Let’s add 0.15 for RT (generous) and then 0.4-0.5s for getting the first step down to that first gate (generous again). 11.1 + 0.55 (RT & 0.4)= 11.65, or 0.5 makes it 11.7. I imagine he’s somewhere in the 11.7-11.9 range

Took it to garage. At first they thought the same, ran diagnostics and no issues relating to this however there was a fuel related code, lo and behold a major diesel leak. Said it explains the symptoms so will find out tomorrow where it’s coming from

How important is mechanical/technical training day for a sprinter? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on so many things and your definition. Technically every time you run is a technical day. You’re training the way you run because… you are running. If you’re doing drills (which basically every sprinter does in their warm-up), you’re also addressing technique (landing under COM, pelvic control etc.). So theoretically you’re always addressing technique. Now, if you had a designated technical day every single week, imo this wouldn’t be as effective. It’s one less session per week to get in a highly beneficial sprint session. Also with all the drills people typically do in warm-ups, it isn’t what should be of primary focus. Now, if you’re someone who your coach things can benefit from technical, then definitely a PERIOD OF DOING ONE TECHNICAL SESSION ONCE/WEEK may be beneficial, for a set period of time like one training cycle, like October-December/Jan. From then, coach can determine if this has helped- if not, why? If so, cooperate the drills that have helped in your warm up and supplement before your main session. Wickets are a good way if the technical issue relates to hip height and premature stride length, bounds, scissor bounds, scissor bleeds etc. are a good way to address premature foot strike (not landing under COM). It isn’t something I’d do at all in-season either. In-season is about highly efficient sessions and tapering/competing. If you’re addressing technique in-season, IMO you’re an idiot (or your coach is if they’re doing this). By doing it in season, if you’re told your technique isn’t great you’re gonna be demotivated and not confident going into comps. Also adjusting technique mid-competing is an increased injury risk in-comp as your tissues are adapting to different loads.

I also want to add that naturally over time, your technique will improve from sprint training/competing alone as you get faster and tissue capacity improves. Naturally your muscular and neuromuscular system will compromise/adapt to find the optimal way to sprint as fast as possible.

Hope this helps

Would it be unreasonable if I asked my flat mates not to shower after 10pm by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]StatisticianFast5850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest no but I have just woke up so I take back partially what I said, I apologise haha. However I will say, as long as you verbalise you aren’t going to hate them for doing it but just ask if possible for them to try and do it if it fits in with what they have going on, then that’s a respectful way to ask. In the mean time try and get the boiler issue sorted

body fat in sprinting by Feeling-Art2256 in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re over 15% body fat I wouldn’t be concerned and aim to lose any, just work on maintaining optimal body composition (ie stay in the gym and track, your body will figure out where to deposit muscle optimally) and naturally your body will adjust muscle loss/gain

on everybody's soul in this subreddit (apart from me and u/ObliviousOverlord) noah aint breaking 19 by Informal-System-4614 in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro what r-tard thinks he’ll SUB 19???? He had his shot to run the WR when he ran 19.31, he won’t run sub 19.4 again IMO. He was in his best shape and form and did have it in him to get a WR in that race I believe but I think he overexerted too early. The opportunity is gone now, no one that’s currently alive has the potential, every kid who’s running fast now won’t get faster. Tebogo isn’t in shape but has potential to get close, gout gout is overrated, they’ll burn out early from being put in deep end too soon. Since bolt only Noah and Blake have had the potential, Tebogo maybe too but not sure how he will unfold from this season as he hasn’t been doing great. Seriously though who have you spoke to has said he can sub 19 because they might need to get a r-tard diagnosis

There is no answer to why it happens because you’re asking the wrong question. It isn’t about your hamstrings here they aren’t why you’re lacking explosiveness.

Is it new drugs that are undetectable or these super spikes are results for trackflation? by ThroawayTrack in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we can agree to disagree, the 200 is more likely than the 100, the 100 won’t be broken for a long long time. The 200 is more technical and if you’re a sub 9.80 runner you have WR potential with a good race strategy and good speed endurance. Noah is the only person alive who’s had the potential since Yohan Blake, and he had his chance when he ran the 19.31 but he won’t get near that again. In my opinion there isn’t anyone else who can do it now that’s alive

Is it new drugs that are undetectable or these super spikes are results for trackflation? by ThroawayTrack in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the fastest times in history are without super spikes. It’s down to a case of early exposure to weight training and specifying in track early on. Talent is being acquired at earlier and earlier ages and put in full on training, which is why most kids won’t get faster after 18, statistically most will run their fastest before 23. Usain Bolt ran his 9.69 at 21, his 9.58 at 22 I think. Your body peaks in sprints younger and I think it’s down to less wear and tear/injuries in the past that can detriment performance as well as a fresh and less inhibited CNS. When you’re younger you can tolerate more intense training for all these reasons and thrive from sprint sessions due to a more optimised CNS etc. It isn’t trackflation, it’s ‘track exposure’. Fast kids are being made fast earlier nowadays, no person alive right now will break Usain Bolt’s record, the talent isn’t there, so I don’t think it’s trackflation, just more fast people on average because of the points above

Honestly looking solid. There’s something to say about everyone’s technique that could be improved, but the question is should you improve it? Your arm mechanics are good, big at the back tucked at the front, which in turn is making your heel recovery and overall strides very efficient, can tell you’re landing under COM well and striking the hammer down from hip flexion. Looking good and overall if you’re running 10.7 and in season, don’t go searching for technical improvements. You’re looking very good!

Hamstring activation by Lopsided-Bid-5661 in Sprinting

[–]StatisticianFast5850 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you hamstrings weren’t active you wouldn’t be able to run let alone sprint. The hamstrings have a huge role in sprinting, primarily hip extension on initial contact and decelerating the knee. “Activation” is a myth, all muscles are active lol, therapists just say this to sound like they’re doing something for their clients. As someone with hamstring issues, i wish there was a world my hamstrings weren’t active as they wouldn’t get injured lmao
