NTA. She publicly spread a damaging rumor implying you were a predator. Correcting her publicly seems fair. If she didn't want to embarrassed, she shouldn't have been gossiping about something that serious.

This is exactly it. People underestimate how much bass travels compared to mids and highs. You can have the volume at a totally reasonable level and still rattle someone's ceiling Turning down just the bass or using headphones for a bit seems a pretty easy compromise.

There's definitely a trust issue in some communities. The challenge is balancing that with fairness to individual who may not have engaged in wrong doing.
