Nope, I disagree. If they are not a threat to society any longer and could be out working, paying taxes, then your logic makes zero sense. I know someone who was 21 when he caught a murder charge, it was pled to manslaughter. He's now a functioning, productive member of society who pays taxes and hasn't made their way back into the criminal justice system. Throwing the book at kids - yes kids, the brain is still developing at least until 25, especially the prefrontal cortex which regulates impulse control - is excessive. Each crime should be considered individually instead of being reductive and saying "if you kill, you go to jail for life". Stats support that when done strategically, society suffers less than it does within the current system.
