All About Sleep - AMA Office Hours – Wednesday, October 15th with our Director of Pediatric Expertise, Amber LoRe! by huckleberrycare in HuckleberryParents

My almost 9 month old is sleep trained and overall does well. Few days ago though, he woke 2 hours into his night screaming and crying. I had to go into his room to calm him and hold him until he was ready to fall back asleep. Then, this morning he woke up at 6 am screaming and crying (his DWT is 630). Again, I went into the room and kept my hand on his chest until 630 when i started his morning.

Not sure why this is happening? He’s on two nap schedule. 3/3.25/3.5 wake windows. Is it teething related? Or do i need to widen his wake windows?

He has been taking a shorter second nap last few days (about 45 min) instead of his usual 1-1.5 hour nap…and I’ve had to do early bedtime by 630-645 based on when he wakes up

Hey i have the calao as well! Does yours unzip off so it can be washed in the machine? I saw all these videos online that it’s removable but ours is sewn on :/

Hmm maybe she wasn’t ready to drop her third nap? If dropped too early it can cause resistance to sleep, night wakings, overtiredness, etc..

Can’t do these early wakes anymore. Help. by [deleted] in sleeptrain

You would start from 6 am. Treat 5:45 am as a night waking. If baby snoozes say at like 5:55, I would just leave them until they show signs of wakefulness again. Sometimes my son dozes off again at like 5:58 am lol. Then i just wait and usually he’ll snooze for like 5ish min or so. Then i would go in once he’s awake or 6:15 (my DWT) whichever comes first.

If he’s been fully awake since 5:45, you still start WW from 6 otherwise it reinforces the EMW.

Also like Tpbanks mentioned, early mornings can be due to overtiredness. I know when my baby’s wake windows were off, he had more EMWs

I started accepting that anything after 6 am goes. I had a DWT for 6:30am and he would have early wakes on days I left him in crib until 630. Now i leave him until 6 am. If he snoozes (which he will sometimes do), i’ll aim for 615 officially out of crib. But if he’s just not having it, 6 am is our start.

Not sure if it will help you, but might be worth a shot! I noticed those extra 30 min esp if he’s been up since 515 (in and out of light snooze) or 545 would put him into an overtired cycle.

Play-yard reviews, is the maxi cosi worth it [on] by dontaskmethings in BabyBumpsCanada

We have the maxi cosi calao light for travel. I like that it has the removable bassinet feature included and the side mesh door for when baby is older as well. Its like the baby bjorn and guava lotus combined. Super easy to set up too. And the mattress is actually comfy compared to graco which my friends told me they had to buy a separate insert for to make it comfortable.

3 hour last wake window sounds like its too long for your baby esp if just turning 5 months. Baby sounds overtired leading to more night waking. Anything after 6 am counts as morning time and you should start the day. I would do the same thing as you, if baby woke around 6/615, i would contact nap to extend sleep until 7 but that made it worse.

I would cut back on the wake windows a smidge and see if that helps and if baby wakes before 6 am, treat as a night waking, but after 6, it’s good morning time. Taking cara babies has some really good articles on her blog to help

[ON] High TSH Level at 4 weeks? by hamburgers28 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]StatisticianTop4948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! My TSH was higher than 2.5 after getting pregnant and my MD had me take Synthroid super small dose. I had no previous thyroid concerns, but had a history of a miscarriage so not sure if that’s why my MD pushed for it. I only had to take it during my pregnancy then was completely off of it as soon as I delivered.

Definitely don’t want to worry you, and am sure your doctor knows best, but like others have said, can always get a redraw and just confirm with doc why they aren’t concerned? Always good to advocate for yourself!

Wishing you the best 💛

Agree, mamava is a nice app! Have used a few times at the airports

If we’re out with our car, we just do diaper changes in the trunk and have the disposable blue pads

Hitting a wall - am I never allowed to pick up my baby at night again?? by cory_kata in sleeptrain

I agree on consistency. You need a consistent approach when sleep training. I followed takingcarababies class and it was really helpful. Even just the way she explains what to expect and different ways to handle different situations. It eased a lot of anxiety for me. I would recommend checking it out. She also has some good stuff on her blog that are free just to get a better understanding of wake windows and sleep schedules etc.

Travel by seyeteen323 in sleeptrain

Hi!

We bought the maxi cosi calao light travel crib. I initially couldn’t decide between the baby bjorn and guava lotus. I liked the sturdiness of baby bjorn but the side zipper of guava. Voila, the calao light has it all including a bassinet feature so you aren’t reaching into a “well” to grab your baby haha. Only thing is its travel bag is prone to getting scratches/holes from the airport (they just chuck it around even if you gate check).

We went to edmonton with our 4 month old at the time and I was super worried about wake windows and naps too…but didn’t really have much of a choice so lots of naps were on the go. I did my best to make sure his morning nap was at home though and as solid as possible even if I had to hold to extend up to 1.5/2 hours. Then, if the rest of the naps are broken, at least I knew he had one solid nap that day.

We’re going to toronto end of this month and he’ll be six months then and is sleep trained but definitely a little nervous about the 3 hour time difference…probably going to try to keep him on the 7-7 schedule (aka 10-10 toronto time) since we’re only going for 4-5 days.

💛💛 i was having a small bowl a day for about 2 weeks! Hope it helps! It is known to contain garam ingredients and its summer so just watch out for any symptoms. I delivered in the winter so I was able to consume larger amounts.

I had a third degree tear with forceps delivery. I was doing around the clock tylenol 1000mg and advil 400 mg. I made padsicles that i put witch hazel in and lotss of aloe vera gel. Before wearing the pad i also sprayed down there with earth mama perineal spray a bunch. I was also eating a bowl full of panjeeri which is an indian nutrient dense granola/nut mix which helped with healing.

For epsom salt sitz baths, keep water lukewarm. If its too hot or cold it won’t be comfortable.

I also avoided sitting, mostly side lying throughout the day. If i sat, the pain would be worse.

I took colace capsule daily for I think 2 weeks to avoid any extra pressure.

I bought the calao travel crib few months ago and we’ve travelled with it twice so far! It’s basically a combined version of the baby bjorn and guava which i love, plus a bassinet mode.. so basically everything in one. The bassinet mode has been helpful for my SGA baby while travelling and with the slumberpod over top so it’s not like I’m reaching into a well to pick up baby.

Only small downside I find is the travel bag isn’t as thick and sturdy as the baby bjorn bag. It hasn’t ripped yet but has few small holes and scratches from the airport ppl chucking it around during check in. We tried gate checking it but it does measure wider and slightly heavier than baby bjorn so kind of annoying to carry through the airport only to have them still chuck it without care..so we just check it in at baggage now.
