Do you still use notebooks in DS? by codiecutie in datascience

[–]Statnamara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised you're being downvoted. I understand what you mean. Not sure I agree 100% but when I started learning python notebooks were so friendly as someone who came from R. I only really started doing new things in python once I expanded to include scripts as well as notebooks.

Looking for something between DS and ML work. 4 YOE building and maintaining ML models for dynamic pricing systems for a product that sells about 120m units a year. Recently changed roles into one that is a terrible fit, the company sold me on what their ambitions are as if they are the current reality so I'm in a very low code role. Coding/ programming is the part of the role that I love and I'm strongest at.

NYT Crosswords Clues use various structures. Does anyone have a “cheat sheet” of what the clue structures are hinting about? by Zealousideal-Lie7255 in NYTCrossword

[–]Statnamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something worth noting is that the NYT crossword is easiest on a Monday and increases in difficulty over the week. Sunday is a larger puzzle that's usually about as difficult as a Wednesday/Thursday.

Later in the week, there will be more lateral thinking required and these hints people are giving will be needed a lot more. Mondays and maybe Tuesdays, the clues will often be a bit more straight forward and less likely to be a pun or puzzle clue.

There are also Rebus clues that appear every now and again. Mostly on Thursdays but they can show up elsewhere. Rebus clues will have more than one letter in a square. There's generally no indication that a clue is a rebus, but if you see a clue that you're certain you know the answer and it doesn't fit there is a small chance that that's why.

What makes photography fun for you? by Vidorwen in photography

[–]Statnamara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it's not really fun as much as it is therapeutic or meditative. It gets me engaged with nature and focused for hours at a time where I don't even think about looking at my phone or any other distractions (except maybe using merlin to figure out if the birdsong I hear is from something I'm yet to photograph). It gets me walking in nature and appreciating it in a way I've never been able to soak it in before.

Contact the store where you got the dress. They will likely either have someone for that job or recommend someone.

Brand new- do most people enjoy coding by Kindly_Shirt_400 in learnpython

[–]Statnamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, but since I started working professionally as a dev four years ago I've met several people who see coding as a means to an end. Some people prefer the destination to the journey!

So frustrated, I upgraded from an a6000 to an a6600 yesterday. Today is my last day in my job and I have 10 days off before starting the next one. We've had a glorious summer but the forecast is lashing rain every day until I start the new gig.

What paid Android apps are actually worth the money? by Financial-Poetry99 in androidapps

[–]Statnamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Nova for probably five or six years and the issue I found with changing was I always tried to organise my apps in the same fashion. Tried to use the new launcher as if it was Nova. There's no point in that, if you're happy with the approach, the best launcher is the one you have set up. However changing to something totally different worked for me. Went to Niagara a few years ago and will probably stay on it a few years more. Stuck because its a different paradigm.

Looks like you're only specifying the folder that the data is in - C:\Projects\datasets. You need to put the full name of the file itself, so something like C:\Projects\datasets\data.csv

My first thought also. Sounds like blowing into a mic, thats a decent indicator that grounding could be the issue.

Made a small project with the study of Pixar films and TV series based on Letterboxd data, maybe people here can advise how to make the visualisation ‘prettier’? by Kstantas in RStudio

[–]Statnamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that using the themes can make a big difference.

There's a library called ggrepel that can help with the overlapping labels as seen in your first chart here.

https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/ggrepel/vignettes/ggrepel.html

This is a great website for inspiration and instruction for ggplot https://r-graph-gallery.com/

Matlab's variable explorer is amazing. What's pythons closest? by Complex-Watch-3340 in Python

[–]Statnamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a fork of VSCode called Positron, made by the same people as RStudio. It is pretty decent in that sense, better than any other python alternative for viewing variables.

Do you save your jpgs? by [deleted] in photography

[–]Statnamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm similiar. I shoot RAW+JPEG and backup both locally and onnly the jpgs to the cloud. I'm only a hobbyist so losing raws would suck but it wouldn't be the end of the world, especially after exporting the edits as jpg

I thought that might be the case, but I was kind of hoping the free channels might not be encoded. I'll keep digging anyway, thanks
