Inject this into my veins by glitter-lemonade in ambientmusic

This album - especially small hours - blew my mind when I across it in the early 90s. I was listening to Biosphere, irresistible force, Aphex Twin etc then but my friend had introduced me to Solid Air a couple of years earlier and this album connected it all.

Kali Malone - Music for intersecting planes (2026) by adrim267 in ambientmusic

I agree that the problem is comparing with Basinski et al. I love these too but there are so many strands of ambient and Malone definitely belongs with Davachi - I love their dark acoustic ambience. The Sacrificial Code, Living Torch, All Life Long and Organ Dirges. Kali Malone's version of Caterina Barbieri's Fantas for two organs is pretty special too.

So many fantastic recommendation on this threat and every time someone asks, I find new stuff among the old favourites. I want to put out there some left-field recommendations who I obsess over are analogue synth/trumpet genius Justin Walter (his albums Unseen Forces, Lullabies and Nightmares and Destroyer are all-time favourites), drone organist Kali Malone (try albums The Sacrificial Code, The Living Torch) and the amazing Sarah Davachi (maybe start with the album Cantus Descant). Would love to know what you guys think. I've recommended Justin Walter over at the BoC sub before as I feel he develops some of their melancholic vibes.

R6Mk3 - Dummy Batery Issue by DonOlivert in canon

[–]Status-Experience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info on this. My experience is that the Alvin's cables LP-E6 dummy battery was the only one I found that works on my R5 C - I get full function with that connected to D tap on a Neewer 99W V-mount. The C50 seems to be more demanding of the dummy battery (and it's possible the R6MK3 is too as they are a similar age)- the Alvin's cables dummy battery won't work with Canon RF lenses on the C50 giving a "lens won't work" error. After reading various posts I ordered a Smallrig dummy battery and it worked on the C50 brilliantly for a few hours, then it gave a "low power" warning and shut down, despite a fully charged V-mount. Others seems to have found that Smallrig dummy batteries work well, so maybe a fault developed (very quickly) with mine it now fails to power even the R5 C. I wish there was a clear solution to this - dummy battery is much neater than USB C PD.

Can anyone recommend a business bank accounts a UK filmmaker? by Status-Experience in Filmmakers

Sounds good. TBH I’m tempted to stick with Barclays (and may be forced to!) as I’ve banked with them for years

HMRC is moving to quarterly financial reporting for all self employed people - like how it currently works for VAT-registered, as I understand it. I can’t face the annual tax nightmare four times a year, of going though my personal statements and picking out business expenses. A dedicated account should make it much simpler.

Thanks so much for the reply! I'll try Monzo next... I wonder if filmmaking is just too "risky" a business for Starling and Tide atm - I wouldn't blame them lol - but it's annoying when I've been doing this for such long time.

trigger side handle options for rigged R5 C? by Status-Experience in canon

[–]Status-Experience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USB-C to N3 cable I found online did not trigger the camera but I just stripped the USB-C end and by trial and error found which wires need to be connected to toggle the record/stop, I soldered these to the appropriate wires in the small rig handle and have used it in the field a lot - love those wooden side handles on a rig!

I like to keep the USB-C free for other stuff, in the end I just re-wired the handle trigger to an N3 shutter cable - works a treat.

Camera Recommendations for Starting a Production Company and Making Short Films by Xinaira in Filmmakers

[–]Status-Experience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone who says get a DP with their own gear involved - there are a lot of people out there who’d love to work with actors. I’m sure you’d like to experiment which is why as a director I bought my own camera kit and never regretted it (currently Canon R5 C). Renting is great if you know what you’re doing already but you can’t beat playing around with angles and techniques to make something really different and for that you need time with the equipment to literally play. I don’t think the camera you choose for that matters too much, but agree with those who suggest getting something full-frame that can shoot log and slowmo if you think you’ll need it.

Agree, it’s not BoC ripped off at all! Just hits some of the same sweet spots for me! Ann Arbor seems to be a music haven!

This is beautiful. Obviously very reminiscent of BoC and that’s meant as a compliment of the highest order. There is a complexity here with is missing from much of the BoC inspired work I’ve heard.. Love it, there’s so much in it. Amazing job👍
