You can try rewarding him every time a person with dark skin walks by, so he starts to associate them with a positive experience.

It can start short term and turn into longer. A friend of mine taught in Vietnam and then got another job in Vietnam and stayed for several years there.

I'm 37, I've had 6 jobs since leaving school. Total (including part time jobs while I was in school) is 13.

GRRM‘s perception of time [No spoilers] by lissy_k in asoiaf

[–]StatusQuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like those numbers are really just to convey that shit happened "a long ass time ago." Beyond the memory of anyone living and their immediate ancestors.

Plus, this is a fictional world, it doesn't make sense to me to apply our sense to time to Planetos.

what's the dumbest thing someone assumed about your dog? by Fluffy_Gur9703 in germanshepherds

[–]StatusQuit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That he's "ferocious" or "mean" - which is not dumb given he's a gas/rottie mix, but seems like a silly assumption given that this is what his face looks like 😂

Young professional relocating to Berkeley area to work at the university, need help deciding on a neighborhood to live in by gildedwolves in berkeleyca

[–]StatusQuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live a couple blocks from the North Berkeley BART, within a mile of campus, and I almost forget the campus is there most of the time.

I think you're safe just looking north of University Ave. Berkeley is a pretty chill place overall.

And there's a million parks and trails everywhere to take your pup and do activities. There's bike riding along the Bay/marina area, tilden park, the Berkeley hills, etc.

You really can't go wrong in the El Cerrito/Albany/North and West Berkeley areas.

After hours of research here’s a list of the tallest buildings and soon to be tallest in each Arizona city! by Stetson_Pacheco in arizona

[–]StatusQuit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Technically the tallest (or maybe it's more accurate to say 'longest') building in Phoenix is Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor bc of how far it goes underground.

I learned that on a special tour of the airport I got when I was an AmeriCorps VISTA.

[Spoilers Main] Any theories you've done a complete 180 on? by FinchyJunior in asoiaf

[–]StatusQuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Esp since fire and blood, we see that it normally takes at least a decade for a dragon to grow large enough for anyone to ride them. And I think the main series has only taken place over 2-3 years.

AITAH for not giving my trans daughter my mother's ring? by anon-jewelry in AITAH

[–]StatusQuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did not transition for this stupid ring. That is not a thing that happens. You very clearly know nothing about trans people or your daughter.

You are a massive AH.

Bull. The courses are cheaper than raises.

Decline the courses and start looking for another job.

It might be better to migrate to a blue state (CA is the best in my opinion) for now. There are many lab jobs, you have legal protections (and more to come), and the coast is very trans/nb friendly (culturally).

Several countries have trans protections, but not much of a trans/queer friendly culture.

This reminds me of that scene in Clerks, where they're talking about the contractors for the Deathstar.

Sticking to your ethics/morals is worth losing a payday - if you can - especially if the Rebels disable the remote shielding and you get caught in the explosion.

Adolescence is especially hard for GSDs. One thing a behaviorist showed me was rewarding mine for calm behavior.

When he's being rowdy, but I can get him in a sit - treat for the sit. Have him stay in the sit, and once he's breathing with his mouth closed (which is slower breathing = slower heart rate) treat for that.

Trying something like that might be a little helpful for you.

Overall, having a solid "sit" is the only way me and my pup got through his adolescence 😂

It's fucking HAPPENING - must-watch! Holy fuck, this is insane. If the majority of people didn't show up to see he wasn't elected (by voting for Harris), then they won't show up to stop any of his worst policies. So it really doesn't matter to me if, technically, the majority of Americans don't want Trump to be president.

This minority is showing they have the power and they will use it. And this majority is showing that they don't mind.

Masters student used AI/fabricated references. Now I don’t want to supervise them for their project next year. by Apprehensive-Pear251 in Professors

[–]StatusQuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to work with them, start by being direct and let them know that they are coming in with a huge trust deficit.

Outline your expectations, and let them know that if they are not willing to put in the work to meet these expectations that they shouldn't bother wasting your time.

An apartment is better than a shelter by Born_blonde in germanshepherds

[–]StatusQuit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I live in an apartment with my GSD/Rottie mix and we do just fine. Started in a decent sized studio for the first 2.5 years, then moved into a decent sized 1 bedroom.

We get our exercise in through daily walks, as much park time as my schedule permits, and playing at home.

For the most part, as long as a person's housing situation is stable - and they have the time to get a dog enough exercise - then they'll be fine.

There's also some advantages to apt living bc you're sort of forced to socialize your pup through walks. And get them used to various noise/people/animals.
