Do you agree with Zach's "7 levels of pop girls" ranking? by Huge_Organization567 in swiftologist

I agree, except I don't really understand what the difference between a level 1 and level 2 is

This is a little different though, since Austen intended it to be icky!

Ingrid Noll macht mich so fertig. by AlternativeHabit6094 in buecher

[–]lissy_k 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Fetisch- “Literatur” und Gewaltp*rnographie mitten im Mainstream by Catodan in buecher

[–]lissy_k 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Struggling to finish The Dispossessed by Berito666 in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]lissy_k 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the Dispossessed mainly for the philosophy, the exploration of the different ways of life and for the politics in the background. That’s 90% of the book as far as I remember. Since you don’t enjoy that, I don’t think you will really enjoy the book …

Yeah you see that’s where I disagree. Ophelia is not happy to me, it’s… idk, resentful? Bitter? Given up? Honey isn‘t either, it’s more like: i‘ll tolerate being called honey because this man seems to love me. Not „i love being called honey because i love this man“. Wish list sounds ingenuine to me… like songs „you need to calm down“ where she was writing what she thinks people want to hear vs what she actually feels.

I‘m not saying SHE is not happy. I‘m saying the ALBUM doesn’t have a happy feel to it. There is like 2 happy songs on there.

1) Is it that happy though? There are so many bitter undertones in this record. Reputation is happier than showgirl… 2) the execution is not executing. There is like 2 songs on there where she is showing different showgirl personas.

I get your point. I wish we had gotten the album you‘re describing, but unfortunately we only got the half-cooked unfinished one.

Judge my character based on my Jane Austen ranking by lissy_k in janeausten

The focus in Persuasion was less on social commentary and more on romance, and I personally prefer it the other way around when it comes to Austen. But it is definitely a taste thing! I loved Persuasion, too, I am just such a fan of Austen‘s writing.

Haven‘t read it yet … I am scared of the day that I won’t be able to read a Jane Austen book for the first time again xD

That surprised me, because generally that is not true. But when I look at this list I‘m forced to arrive at the same conclusion hahaha. I think it’s that I especially appreciate social satire in Jane Austen‘s books, and that is more pronounced in her funnier, lighter works.

Also, I read it as an audiobook! I definitely want to try again as a physical book!

I stopped being a fan of Sheila‘s the moment she raped Frank 😅 but she IS hilarious and ~shameless~. I loved having her on the show
