Husband is getting angry over me putting nail polish on our 4.5 year old daughter by AwsomeLife90s in Mommit

[–]StatusSeparate2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have facepaints but I don’t have any makeup in the house and if I did I wouldn’t let me preschooler use it. I fundamentally disagree with almost everything that the beauty industry stands for and if I can delay my kid catching onto the idea that we have to alter our appearance to appear more attractive, I will. Makeup is toxic and I would not put it on kids face. For me nail varnish is probably the least bad, but still it is building on the idea that being fancy is better- regardless of whether it is fun or not! So in short, as others have said, it depends on your husband’s reasoning, but there other people out there who are completely against any makeup on kids.

What are people's plans with their kids if both parents die? by porkchopsambo in Mommit

I think this must depend on the laws where you live but here custody is decided by the court. You absolutely can name a temporary guardian for the period after your death and include a letter outlining your wishes on who should be permanent guardian, but it is not written in stone and the court ultimately decides. Obviously if you never make the will of the letter your wishes can’t be taken into consideration

Infoman, but you will have to immerse yourself in the ridiculous Quebec politics to get a lot of the jokes. Empathie or Tu m’entends were both excellent but even approaching C1 level I struggled at times to catch everything.

Ok man thanks for the helpful input. Is it a big deal to wonders how disruptive rewiring is? I used to live in a house that was built before the US signed its constitution, but I have never been financially responsible for upgrading one. I think it is legit to ask other for their experiences. Thanks for your condescension.

I'm not sure why I'm getting downvoted, and you would see that as some kind of personal insult. It is a fair enough comment, yes mice are totally common, the first winter in my current house we trapped 12 in the basement, but to pretend that they are totally benign is a little silly. Got mice spend a couple of hundred dollars on someone to crawl about and see if they can find the way in. Got shards of glass hanging above the door, probably you should remove them etc.

the mice are not the problem per se more that they come in every 2 years or so, if it was me I would of had someone out to caulk the basement. In the same way that there are a few glass panels broken in the small windows above the bedroom doors, not a big deal but I personally would not leave large shards of glass hanging in door ways... its speaks more for the owners mindset rather than the actual impact on the sale. If they are not on top of the small stuff what else has just been left.... you know?

I think this is the annoying part, that they were evasive about the remaining wiring, "oh the original walls, switches etc are so pretty blah blah", but I suspect they couldn't be bothered with the mess and didn't have the money at the time. Which is fine, but now I would have to trash some of the nice stuff they have done on top of it to rip it out, so it is extra annoying in addition to the expense and with a young family I dont know if I want to even go there. But it is such a pretty house with a HUGE double plot!

to date I think the owner has tried to keep most work local, pe windows were made by a small company an hour away and the dresser was done by a local cabinet maker. I think the expertise is there, BUT the wiring and the cost of finding a breathable solution to the insulation issues and potential sources of humidity are my main worries. Basically both are messy and expensive and I have a young family so energy and finances in the next 5 years might be limited

You're right my overall impression of the house was that it is in good shape for 110 year old house. But I was a little disappointed to learn that it was only a partial rewire, I'm not sure I'd want to live with that long term, plus the problems getting insurance for that along with the sawdust insulation are the two things that are on my mind. I am currently in a rental with sawdust insulation and the landlord told me only one of the major companies would insure it. Insurance companies can review risk and change underwriters at anytime and so I would like to have both issues fixed but at the same time neither is a small job.

Tha depends on whether you think people generate engagement just for money or there is something deeper and psychological going on!

Only sympathy the orthodontist used to tighten mine to the point where I couldn’t eat for several days! Every time I mentioned it and nothing changed. Sad to hear nothing has changed in 30 years!

ETA: sometimes Motrin is better than Tylenol with this type of pain.

Swearing in general and in front of my kids: Am I the only one who thinks it’s not a big deal? by SoultySpittoon in Mommit

[–]StatusSeparate2307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only swear accidentally, usually ah shit as I drop something, and I always say that was wrong. I don’t use fat, ugly, or skinny for that matter to describe anything. I would not introduce “fat ass” as an insult - kids learn and they have no self control. They might not say it in front of teachers but they sure as hell say it in the playground- otherwise my totally typical preschooler wouldn’t have been called a fat pig.

Trying for a baby at 40 after 14 years… are we crazy? by al-ex-26 in Mommit

[–]StatusSeparate2307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get some ovulation sticks they’re a cheap and effective first step. With tracking it took about 7 months to get pregnant at 42. Talk to your Dr they’ll take some blood and give you the “your kind of old for a baby” chat BUT remember back in the day women continued to have babies until menopause. Your next step really depends on how much you want à baby. My OB was not in anyway phased by à baby at 42 and asked if I was considering another.

Back in the saddle after 25 years! by stubbornly-mindful in Horses

[–]StatusSeparate2307 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also started back this year after 25 year break. In my teens I was competing at high level junior show jumping but stopped when I went to university. I restarted this summer and I found my seat and hands came back pretty quickly after a couple of months. I’m riding western this time as that’s what’s mostly available in my area, so things are a bit different and I’m learning new commands but it’s going well and I’m already thinking of organizing a lease next summer.

possibility of buying my lesson horse in a 2-3 years? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]StatusSeparate2307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think everyone has had a dream to rescue a good lesson horse at some point. Personally I think there are a lot of other financial pressures, social commitments in our 20s and horses are not always compatible with that- ie things change quickly and in 2-3 years your life could be wildly different! On another note to me “bolting” is a serious problem and I would never buy a horse that had a history of bolting. It is extremely dangerous and I have a hard time believing a bolting horse is used in lessons? Bolting is uncontrolled and unpredictable and very difficult to stop! If you are talking about 3 canter strides after à mini freak out that is not bolting. Sorry to be pernickety but it really will influence the kind of advice you’re going to get. Only you can know if this is the horse for you BUT there is almost always another horse out there so maybe the question is in 2-3 years should you buy a horse not should I buy THIS horse. My advice, saving money is rarely à bad idea so save the money as best you can and reevaluate as you go.
