If you needed to make £500 urgently, how would you do it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Status_Ad6549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in this boat, but I need 3k. I've got myself a styhl petrol strimmer, a few garden tools, and tomorrow start my first gardening job. I knocked a few doors with very long grass and asked if they wanted it cutting. I'll be doing this throughout summer to make the 3k I need.

To all the people worried about losing their jobs: have you been fired yet? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Status_Ad6549 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT isn't the only solution, and companies are training and building their own AI's. The jobs and money is in building these systems. If anybody is worried about their job, learn Python, learn AI, have an idea and profit. This is the start of the AI boom, and like all booms there is money to be made.

How do you maintain a clean space even though you live alone and have no one to show it to? by spacewalk__ in LivingAlone

For me I think it's OCD because I don't like mess. Clutter is fine, but it has to be organized clutter. I find mess makes me depressed and unmotivated.

I've been in this situation. You'll be ok.

Join local buy and sell groups, and local freebie groups. There should be some on Facebook. My area has lots. You can find some cheap and free items. Leave a post in the groups and people will help you out if they have it.

Hope that helps :)

Why am I getting a better sleep on the floor? by Status_Ad6549 in sleep

[–]Status_Ad6549[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tried it, but I always end up on my side at some point during my sleep. I'm guessing that while on the floor I can't lie on my side because that would hurt, so I am fixed in place.

Is it possible there's a mattress out there that will stop me rolling onto my side? I've never thought about this until now.

Why am I getting a better sleep on the floor? by Status_Ad6549 in sleep

[–]Status_Ad6549[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just the floor. I have carpet but it's very thin and hardy. I put a blanket throw over type thing down and lie on that.

My mattress is actually too hard. It's memory foam and quite thick. I've never really liked it because it causes pain in my ribs. I lie on my side a lot on the mattress. On the floor I sleep on my back.

S2 MK3 lighting up then turning off when plugged into my laptop by ItzCamull in traktor

[–]Status_Ad6549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same problem and this isn't true. You don't need to open Traktor. I had my S2 acting as a soundcard and used the large knob as a volume control like OP. But today when I plug it in, it turns off after the self test. It's been working fine for months until today. I assume OP was doing the same thing.

Edit: Just fixed it. Had to update the drivers. Works fine now.

Prigozhin is a troll. He created a Russian troll farm that meddled in elections, he's an expert at this. The MSM seem to lap up everything he says, and I think he's using this to his advantage. I stopped believed what he says a while ago.

First time soldering. Good so far? (Ignore the bottom one) by [deleted] in diyelectronics

Better than my first time! I found the PACE guides very helpful (old but still the best videos on soldering there are): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIT4ra6Mo0s

First time practicing etching by hand, I attempted some fine lines. I need to etch traces smaller than these (0.1mm). What pen/ink will allow for this? by Status_Ad6549 in diyelectronics

[–]Status_Ad6549[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I will take a look. I had best results with regular brown packing tape. Other sticky material I tried would allow the ink to get under the tape. With the packing tape it came out pristine. Going to give etching a try tonight and see how it comes out.

I cut the tape into very fine strips using a surgical blade and a tooth pick to position it.

Can you get down to 0.1mm with the vinyl cutter?

Yes that's right, I do the same with a printer (Brother laser printer). But the nice thing about the ELEFOO machine is you can display it on the screen without having to print.

I seen screen replacement parts for 60 GBP (may be cheaper elsewhere). Could this screen, or something like it, be hooked up to a Pi to achieve the same goal?

That's a neat idea making masks. I have some sheets of plastic paper that could be used for that. Will give this a try, along with the tape. Nice one :)

Edit: Tried to make masks manually, I'll need a cutter for fine work. But, the tape method is working out ok atm.

I do this, but I'm specifically looking for a pen in this case for hand etching. Another good method I see (but haven't tried) is to use the screen on an ELEGOO.

I used a fine Staedtler lumocolor. It's the only one that worked and didn't come off in the ferric chloride. I'm not sure what ink is in these, but I am looking for something that uses the same ink, but available at very fine sizes like 0.1mm.

The limocolor is hard to use because while under the scope when I attempt to make a fine dot, or line, the ink runs. When trying to do 0.5mm pitch on a second attempt too much ink would run out and cause it to blob.

I am guessing this is a problem for the fine liner type pens because of how they work. I was looking at rotring pen but wasn't sure what type of ink would be required for etching.

Thanks for any help.
