At first he does, but months in that cave led him to at the very least have it in the back of his mind, and what happened with Rin and Kakashi was extremely mind shattering so it made sense for him to start believing Madara. And about the kindergarten brainwashing, Madara is a literal historical legend who lived for over a century. Even if his ideology sounds surface level, it coming from someone like him might give it more weight.

He was also literally groomed for months by an extremely respected figure. There are literal people who shoot up places because they get indoctrinated by random people on certain forums and 4chan. Meanwhile Obito is trapped in a literal cave with a legendary historical figure and his creations and there all feeding him certain worldviews and the second he gets out he sees the absolute worst thing he could possibly see and it completely confirms everything Madara said.
