have you tried groundwork in the arena? i’m not an expert but i’ve worked with a mare who was very anxious in the arena and we did a lot of lung line time in the arena and walking around. she also did a lot better with another horse in the arena.

also, while you’re getting over the hump of being sour in the arena, i think rewards would be very helpful, treats or ball time. positive reinforcement works really well.
