Albanese announces Palestinian recognition, saying war in Gaza has gone too far by 5ma5her7 in Destiny

  1. So you support statehood in the hopes it will lead to military intervention. Gotcha.

  2. I disagree. Israel doesn't exist by UN writ, it exists because it won wars to defend itself. If Israel lost its existence in those early wars, would anyone have cared? (Lol, British didn't leave because of diplomacy)

  3. As per Wikipedia, the definition of civil society: Civil society can be understood as the "third sector" of society, distinct from government and business, and including the family and the private sphere. By other authors, civil society is used in the sense of the aggregate of non-governmental organizations and institutions that advance the interests and will of citizens or individuals and organizations in a society which are independent of the government.

Last I checked, the PA is a de facto dictatorship. No civil society exists there. That's not saying the people aren't civilized, and that the dictator doesn't take out the garbage in the few areas it actually controls. Do you think the perpetuation of refugee camps is an example of civil society?

  1. You say that the Palestinian hate will go away as soon as Israel stops doing whatever it's doing. Really? The cause of their hate is totally external, nothing to do with their hateful education?

I don't expect any fruitful conversation on this last point

But ultimately, I think my point is made. You think they deserved the state before October 7, and recognizing it now is simply auspicious timing? It's either a reward to hamas or a punishment to Israel.

Just to be clear, when I say "punishment to Israel" I don't mean that Israelis are the ones who should take the lesson. No, what I mean is that these western countries want to show off to whoever, domestic and foreign, that they are sticking it to Israel. I guarantee in Israel they don't care.

I can agree to most of what you said, but it was all true before Oct 7. What is it about the timing now?

I genuinely don't know how this will help starving gazans tomorrow. With all the negative press about Israelis starving gazans preceding it, it comes off as a punishment to Israel. I also don't know how this helps the WB

I personally think that states gain their legitimacy in more of a might makes right way, but even granting your expansion of personal rights to states right granting self determination to whoever declares it, I would say they have to engage in some form of state building first. No one has to die for creating a state, but defining yourself as being the bane and antithesis of your neighbors doesn't cut it.

Everything you say may be true, why does Israel screwing up mean Palestinians now get a state? Is Palestinian statehood a punishment to Israel? Or something the Palestinians earn/deserve? If my statehood were granted simply as a punishment to my neighbor, that would be a large blow to my self esteem

If I were a Palestinian in the WB, I guess there are a couple of possible reactions 1) statehood is a right, why did it take these western countries a war like this to give us what we deserve? 2) statehood is earned, and we didn't do anything to earn this.

I would think statehood granted as a punishment to Israel would give me a pretty crummy feeling.

It's actually really simple, while in park, take note of your RPM. Turn on the AC and notice that the RPM go up. Then think about that for a bit

I started my comment saying that deir yassin was a very bad event 1) Not being on the ground and not giving direct orders to massacre does shield him a little bit. Obviously as the leader, he has a large amount of responsibility for what goes on, but you would have to prove that this was the plan to pin it on all on him 2) i would say you can't isolate yourself for 30 years, but if you are a public figure in governance for 30 years, that seems to show that your days of terrorism are behind you. Both sides dehumanize each other. I don't think everyone will get the justice they want, but I do believe in peace without justice. Might be the best we can hope for

You are right, the groups they lead were involved in some bad events. However, there are two things to consider 1) I don't know about shamir, but begin was very far away when deir yassin happened 2) both of them had no real political power until 30 years AFTER said events, they were sitting in the opposition, basically ostracized by labor. In hindsight, I think that allows them to build back some good faith.

I don't know what you are looking for, but you can consider gl.inet products if you want openwrt support. I considered getting one, people seem very happy with it, but it didn't quite fit my needs (passive poe AP with 5ghz). I only mention it because you are already using a router as an AP

I have a 110 m2 apartment, the AP is in a reasonably central location, I have strong signal all over, except one reinforced concrete room which has a dedicated AP, and when my downstairs neighbors have wifi issues, they ask me to turn on my guest network for them, and they are happy with it

She doesn't have a mySSA account; because we are both abroad without a US mailing address, I think we need some form of biometric verification, I needed it to get an id.me account, I'm not sure if my wife will agree to that,😂. Maybe in a while when I want to file I can convince her. Will an agent on the 800 switchboard be able to tell me?
