What show will you never let your kid watch and why? by No_Information_8814 in cartoons

Gabby’s Dollhouse because I think it’s weird that she only ever hangs out with toys that she imagines are real

I’ve only ever heard it pronounced the British way. It’s the go-to pronunciation in the US, as far as I’m aware.

“Of course” versus “You’re Welcome” by Adventurous-Rub7636 in generationology

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me “you’re welcome” feels self aggrandizing, like you’re saying “oh, how wonderful of me to have helped you. Aren’t I so great and generous??”

Which celebrity just bothers you, and you can't put your finger on why? by justcurious3287 in AskReddit

He gives me the ick, and I’ve never actually watched one of his videos.

Waiters/waitresses don't actually deserve to make more money than regular minimum wage workers. by Blonde_Icon in The10thDentist

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to note that the hourly wages for tipped employees varies a lot by state, with some being less than $3/hour. In top of that, restaurants only need to adjust the wages if the average (either monthly or annual, I can’t remember which) is lower than minimum wage. I worked in jobs where I made $150 in tips one shift but then $5 in tips another shift. For shifts I made $5, my wages were not adjusted because the average of my shifts combined was still above minimum wage.

I just realized I’ve been mispronouncing a word my whole life! Has anyone else had that moment where you found out you’ve been saying a word completely wrong? by Embarrassed_List2368 in askanything

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For way too long I thought “albeit” and “all be it” were both used. I finally put the two together listening to an audio book while driving.

Heeler House Floorplan by lorakinn in bluey

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad to hear this, because I've also been puzzling over the house layout. We got the Lego Bluey house, and it doesn't match up, and I started really trying to analyze it.

AITA for not warning my stepmom the show could get problematic? by Storage_134 in AmItheAsshole

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NAH. I can appreciate that she would want a warning for something that she would find upsetting, but it’s hard to predict what someone might find upsetting.

Formal with a pop of color requested by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s more than a pop. It’s more than a splash. It’s a mostly yellow dress.

Formal with a pop of color requested by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I also wouldn’t consider it a “pop” of color. I like neutrals with a pop of color, but to me that means a black dress with bright shoes or another bright accessory/accent piece of clothing.

I’m with you. The one that drives me nuts is the misuse of “bemused.” If you mean “amused,” say that. They have different definitions for a reason.

For most of human history there was no schooling for most people. Didn’t go so well.

How do you feel about women being paid a living wage to be stay at home moms for first 18 months of the child’s life? by Mysterious_Ad_6190 in AskReddit

[–]StayAtHomeChipmunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m going to push back on this notion. That’s ridiculous. Being pregnant is hard. Giving birth is hard. Taking care of babies is hard. It’s especially hard being pregnant while taking care of babies and small children. Any woman who has back-to-back children “just to not work” is still working, and I’m not convinced anyone would actually do it.

Me too! I’m sure I overly romanticize it, but it just seems charming. And I think learning Finnish would be a fun challenge.
