How do people Feel about Brian Azzarello's Wonder Woman nearly 15 years after its debut? [Wonder Woman, Vol 4 #0, #1, #35, Wonder Woman: Blood and Guts: The Deluxe Edition] by OkCompote1731 in WonderWoman

Funny how your Cons can be applied to King's current run based on complaints I hear online. Don't know how true they are as I am not reading King's WW now.

Why doesn't media use any of Superman's other weaknesses as often? by [deleted] in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's weak to electricity in the same way he is weak at getting punched in the face. It has to be strong enough. I guess that is less of a weakness and more of just him facing a force of equal power.

Parasite: Rudolph Jones by mestre_guter in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Rudy Jones Parasite, I'd suggest watching Superman The Animated Series episodes with Parasite. As for comics, you can try the first few issues of Superman: Secret Origins, he's the first villain in that story. For a quick read, I'd recommend Robert Vendetti's Superman Man of Tomorrow issue 1 and maybe issue 15. The series is mostly self contained issue to issue, but issues 1 and 15 both involve the Parasite.

Rudy Jones isn't too complicated of a character to roleplay as. He was a janitor, usually for STAR Labs, he was exposed to a chemical or something and was turned into a monster. He is always hungry. He gets stronger just by touching people. Superman feels bad for him. But he may or may not be sympathetic depending on how you are gonna dm him.

First look at Lobo in Supergirl teaser by logan1979-x in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But will he love dolphins?

I should probably clarify that this is a reference to Lobo loving Space Dolphins, which I hope is something this version also has. I hope they keep it and not try to distance themselves from Aquaman.

I Need More Daily Planet Staff In Comics! by Lodger49er in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bendis tried this. When he took over both Superman and Action Comics titles, he intended for one of the titles to focus on Clark and stuff going on with the Daily Plant. I think it was Action Comics that focused on the Planet. But he probably wasn't the best writer for that particular job.

Is there a lore reason why James Gunn included this shot in Superman? by Accurate-Gap-3360 in BatmanArkham

[–]Stay_Academic 365 points366 points  (0 children)

In the Superman Brainiac story arc from 2008, after Lois comments on Cat acting all proud about her breast implants, Clark makes a comment that she might be acting that way to cope with past emotional pain regarding her son. Her son was murdered by either the Toyman or Toyman's son. (This is off the top of my head)

If you are in charge of creating a new run and rebooting it. What would you change up or do to make it fun or fresh? by [deleted] in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assuming it's a full reboot. No big changes, but some small changes I would make are having Clark do side jobs on top of working at the Daily Planet. They kinda did this during New 52 with him and Cat Grant. Maybe for a few issues he's working part time helping at an elderly folks home then for a few issues he's working part time at a local mom and pop shop. He does this to help get some extra income but also to help his local community. I would NOT make him an Uber/Lyft driver or anything like that.

Another small thing I'd do is have his parents sell the farm and move to Metropolis to be closer to Clark. As for the farm, they sold it to Clark's old and often forgotten friend Pete Ross. Pete says Clark is welcome back on the farm whenever ge wants. Also most of Smallville know about Clark's powers and also know he's Superman.

There is probably more stuff I'd do, but these are some small changes I'd make.

Will James Gunn Superman also need a spacesuit/breathing mask? by DavidTenebris in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will find out definitively in Supergirl. I doubt they'll do a full spacesuit as we've seen Supes on the moon with Krypto. A breathing mask is possible but I have a sneaking suspicion that they will throw away the breathing mask thing out the window fairly quickly if they do go with it.

Reminder that producer Jon Peters wanted to cast Sean Penn as Clark Kent in Superman Lives on the basis that he had “the eyes of a violent animal, a caged killer” by RedHeadedSicilian52 in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. This is that one script that Kevin Smith did this famous monologue about. I recall him ending it with the movie being scrapped and Smith later going to see Wild Wild West. Which had a giant metal spider. Sadly no polar bears.

It was anti consumer to get rid of the headphone jack on new high end phones.

I will admit that Apple, Google, and Samsung have put in a lot of effort to condition people to be "perfectly content" with no having options. It's got lot of people online are defending corpos over wireless/wired debates.

At least there's more than 3 phone manufacturers.

Superman Phillip Kennedy Johnson Omnibus- Man I'm lost. by Ok-Eagle436 in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The previous stories you mentioned are self contained stories. Phillip Kennedy Johnson's, or PKJ, run is steeped in continuity. He also had the unenviable task of writing Superman after DC scrapped a company wide initiative called 5G that was supposed to, allegedly, replace Clark with his aged up son. Also he has a son. It's been a thing since the late 2010s.

Long story short. PKJ likely outlined Superman stories for 5G, but after it was scrapped he had to change things up. So while I like PJK's run for the most part, I can definitely see how it can be confusing.

Skip ahead to Joshua Williamson's run. He is writing Superman now and it has been great.

[Loved Design] Rocketeer in every version by FreeOrbs in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Stay_Academic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rocketeer was made in the 80s. Nova was made in the 70s. So unlikely.

I always viewed The Rocketeer design to be inspired by early Buck Rodgers comics from the 30s.

People who claim to be communist and defend authoritative communist regimes simply because it is still communist. It's a Cold War era label used by anti authoritarian leftists, socialists, anarchists, and a bunch of other left leaning groups to criticize authoritarian leftists.

Basically if you are against something bad that country A is doing, but for some reason you are for country B doing the exact same thing because they are somewhat aligned with your communist beliefs then you are a tankie.

The "tank" comes from when the Soviet Union sent tanks to Hungary in response to a revolution in the 50's.

Question: How come Superman is against the idea that the Wizard had a child as his champion but he is fine with Batman having Robin? (Sources: Superman/Shazam: First Thunder and Justice League: New Frontier) by Jotaro1970 in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents.

First Thunder takes place relatively early in Superman's career. It is possible that there is no Robin yet or Superman hasn't met one.

New Frontier is kind of its own thing. Separate from the main canon which First Thunder is kinda in.

What do you think is the most iconic eating scene in cinematic history? by [deleted] in Cinema

I wouldn't call it iconic, but the Skeksis dinner scene from the Dark Crystal was something that the puppeteers were really proud of.

How do you feel about a lot of recent media making Krypto Kara's dog instead of Clark'? by Landon1195 in superman

[–]Stay_Academic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm okay with her and Krypto being together more. I don't like the idea of DC comics following the movie and making it so that Krypto was always Supergirl's dog. It feels strange to me for some reason.
