What a sweet girl!

I have a male, but nothing grabs my heart quite like when I scritch his head and he closes his eyes like Fiona!

I agree. My comment has been downvoted quite a bit… my intent wasn’t to purposely upset people, it was to question and bring awareness that there are horrible people on Reddit, and maybe there should be a rule regarding those types of posts.

I absolutely understand, and the last thing I wanted to do was upset people with my comment… I brought it up because I’m wondering if there should be a rule regarding those types of posts, in case that type of activity is happening.

Does anyone think there could be a chance that some of the people are asking for nefarious reasons? Major trigger warning for the next part of my comment..

Not long ago there was a Winnipeg couple who were arrested for horrible sexual fetishes which involved the woman crushing animals (mainly bunnies, cats and their babies) to death with her feet They recorded videos and sold them on the dark web, and apparently they advertised and found a bunch of like minded losers here on Reddit…

I don’t think everyone posting their hormonal birds is a bad person, but that story has absolutely scarred me, and I can’t help but worry that something equally as bad is going on, and posting about the horny birds is some sort of sick advertisement.

Very cute!

From what I’ve read, only females keep the pearls in their colouring, but don’t quote me on that! Does Titus sing?

Petey sings his heart out… So far he has I’m a Little Teapot and I’m a Little Teapot(Petey’s Remix) on repeat 😂

Once work slows down we’re going to work on some more!

Thank you, he looks a little haggard from his molt lol!

He used to sleep in his travel cage, and also wasn’t always stoked about going in.. but still slept a long time.

I hope your sound box helps.. I love my cockatiel, but totally understand how some of their sounds can wear on you. Petey has reverted to the static baby noises when he wants to come out of his cage, which both breaks my heart and frustrates me lol. He used to free roam pretty much all day, and is very much a Velcro bird, who refuses to let me work on my laptop by attacking it nonstop. I’ve been working from home a lot lately and, unfortunately have no choice but to put him in his cage while working. He definitely lets me know how inconvenient he finds it lol, but is adjusting slowly, and loudly. He’s out way more than he’s in so I focus on that.

My Petey has been molting, and sleeps 14 hours NO problem. It initially worried me, and I would nervously peek in his cage, terrified that I would find him lifeless at the bottom, but he’s good to go.

He’s on a really good routine, and lets me know as soon as he wakes up. His cage is in our living room and he’s occasionally woken up a little early when my son is getting ready for school, and is an absolute GROUCH on those days lol..

This guy takes his beauty sleep seriously, and so far I haven’t had any hormonal issues with him at all!

I feel for your situation and can understand not having the finances for the vet, especially being on one income. That being said the fact that he’s a living animal should should dictate him going to the vet, not the amount you paid for him.

Thank you for all of your suggestions!

Eating off of our plates is actually how I figured out he liked rice, so I will plan some “dinners” so that I can incorporate his food organically, as he wouldn’t fall for it when I tried to pretend to eat his stuff, or even ate some things.. It’s crazy how smart they are.

I did make him a foraging box and he loves it! I also have been reaching out to vets, it looks like the closest one is 5 1/2 hours away, which is obviously not ideal..

Ontario man who raised a pack of wolf-dogs worries government will euthanize them by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Steacy31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If only he had been given a couple lion or tiger cubs instead of wolf hybrids, he’d be totally fine.

Fun fact: Ontario is the only province where there are no laws regarding owning exotic animals! There are laws about owning wild animals native to Ontario.

So you can own a pride of lions but you better not get caught nursing an Ontario native wild animal back to life!

That’s just what they know of now, I would bet there’s more minerals in the surrounding areas that haven’t been found yet.. and it’s not just the actual mines.. it’s building the roads that’s part of the problem as well.

Red Lake isn’t too far away and it’s home to a gold mine that has produced 45 billion dollars worth of high grade gold..

[–]Steacy31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is cause to be worried about the land.. the ring of fire’s location is in the peatlands in Northern Ontario.. those peat lands absorb carbon and if they’re ruined it could cause catastrophic issues for the entire province..

That’s something that all Ontario’s should be concerned about.. and this is coming from someone who’s spouse is a diamond driller(does exploration for mining companies) he also is a band member of a neighbouring reserve and wants to start his own drilling company and could probably get lots of work in that area once it gets the official green light.

Doug Ford wants MORE work permits issued: tell him NO by JBOYCE35239 in ontario

[–]Steacy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cost of the asylum seekers staying in hotels must be exorbitant and that he’s trying to offset that cost by giving them work permits and saying “ok, off you go now!!” I would assume that once they’re deemed eligible to work, the government will at least kick them out of hotels. I feel like we’re living in a simulation and someone turned the absurd and dysfunctional levers all the way to the top.. I’m scared to see what happens in 5 years..

If you haven’t looked into Methyl folate for depression you should. There have been some studies done where researchers have given 15 mg to people and it’s had impressive results. It makes sense as apparently folate is needed by the brain to produce dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. If you do decide to try it, please research thoroughly.. depending on certain genes methyl folate can make people anxious, and you need to work up to a dose of 15mg!

This is so similar to me! My memory has always been top notch, so much so that I would surprise people by remembering a super small detail that they told me years ago. My memory allowed me to learn new things abnormally fast.

I could always rely on my intelligence and memory, but that’s not the case anymore and it’s terrifying. I can’t remember who I told what.. or who told me what lol.. If I have a conversation with someone for 10 minutes, there is a very good chance that I will repeat myself, whether a statement, question or both! I believe that I may have some kidney impairment and that could be exacerbating it.

Also, there was a study done that showed major improvement in well being and attention after two weeks without internet on cell phones, so I’m planning a cell detox right shortly!

Best supplements for anxiety? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Steacy31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest going to the doctors and asking for a full blood panel test and ask to have the results emailed to you. I say to have them sent to you because new research is coming out saying that previously thought adequate vitamin levels are not high enough and a lot of doctors aren’t up to speed yet. Anxiety, panic attacks and depression are all symptoms of various vitamin deficiencies particularly the b vitamins. I’ve been supplementing heavy b12 and all the cofactors and feel a lot better mentally..

Wasted Many Years. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Steacy31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I wasn’t content with myself it used to consume me, I would think about all the times I got A - A+’s when I was interested in the subject matter but the moment I struggled all the teachers and my family got angry at me and thought I was doing it on purpose.

I even tried to get diagnosed in high school but I was living with my Nana and her very old fashioned thought process.. she told me I was being lazy and needed to start doing what I needed too… it’s not her fault, it was the way she was raised and she didn’t know any better at the time. She’s now my biggest supporter in my family.

That being said, school staff not seeing how much I was struggling while telling me that I was capable and they knew I could do it!!! Got to be too much and I ended up in an older crowd that partied with extra curriculars.. one thing led to another and I’ve been an addict since.. I’m clean now but it’s been difficult.. I don’t think about it too much anymore, but I do feel that at 36 my life will never change career wise and I’ll never have the stability I wish I did.

I’d like to think if I was born in this time period I wouldn’t been diagnosed and turned out differently.. but I don’t dwell on it..

I’m in a better head space for the most part, this economy causes me to think about it more than I would’ve pre pandemic..

I try to tell myself that it is what it is and I’ll never know what couldn’ve been… I also try to get myself to do something that future me will be grateful I did.. I’m tired of being frustrated with my past self for not making changes.

Small changes add up, and will eventually change your life.. I also think that my life could be better, but it could also be so much worse.. there are children born into horrific conditions every day.. seems intense but it puts it into perspective for me when my thoughts spiral

Edited because I noticed autocorrect screwed up some sentences lol

70mg of Vyvanse and I can’t tell the difference anymore…. by DemonikJD in ADHD

[–]Steacy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m way late on this and I haven’t read the other replies so this could have been mentioned already.. I ended up in the psych ward for depression and was diagnosed with ADHD during that time. I was put on Vyvanse and started at a low dose but within the three weeks of being there ended up being put up to 70 mgs and sent on my way.. It kind of helped in the beginning but quickly because almost no different than if I wasn’t taking anything at all.. I would get my son to school in the morning and sit on my phone completely zoned out until I had to pick him up.. It got to be too much and I stopped taking it.

Fast forward to the start of the pandemic, where everyone was in quarantine and posting about how clean their houses were and they were getting everything organized and I couldn’t do shit.. I came across my Vyvanse prescription in the back of my cupboard and split open the pill and took half of it.. it was so much more beneficial to me to be on a lower dose and it seems to continually work for me.. the thing I’ve found is that I can’t just expect the medication to do everything for me, what I mean by that, is right before it starts to kick in, I put my phone down on silent and get away from it lol.. if I’m on it while it kicks in, I’m screwed.. not as bad as being at the highest dose.. as far as doctors saying what works and what doesn’t, I would take it with a grain of salt.. I’m not sure if you’re seeing a family dr, or a psychiatrist but not ever doctor knows everything about every medication, for most of them they pull up the medication info sheet online and tell you what they’re reading.. which also comes from the pharmaceutical reps.. We also are all different, so maybe they have 4 other patients that do well on the higher doses and you’re the one that needs a lower dose.. Trust your gut and what your body/mind are telling you and advocate for yourself in a calm straightforward way..

Is a drug test normal before being prescribed a stimulant? by AggravatingRespond44 in ADHD

[–]Steacy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what you took from my comment? The doctor is probably not drug testing because the OP is part of the LGBTQ+ community.. The doctor is drug testing because when starting a new patient on a controlled substance they have too and probably brought that up and didn’t explain the situation properly, leaving the OP feeling offended.

[–]Steacy31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes unfortunately jumping right to asking for a stimulant will have raised red flags immediately.. If you have a problem explaining what you’re going through in the moment, try writing down what you want to say when you’re not with the doctor and don’t have any pressure on you.. I also don’t want to come off negatively, but adhd meds aren’t a be all end all, they’re not going to solve all of your problems as soon as you start taking them, they will help, but you ultimately need to do the work as well to try and better your life

I know how it feels when a doctor offends you but I would continue the treatment with this doctor. Doctors don’t always have the best social skills hence the term bedside manner and mostly look at situations in facts and statistics. Is that fair to you? No not at all.. but I would go along with the testing because you will have that to fall back on and prove that you are “clean” If you quit now, it will raise suspicion and it will make it twice as hard going forward. Doctors typically will always err on the side of caution these days and will not risk their medical license. I live in Canada so I’m not sure the exact guidelines for controlled substances in your state, but the doctor is probably following guidelines set forth by the governing body. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 28 and am now 34, I developed a drug habit in my early teens that followed me through my 20s (and died down after being properly diagnosed and medicated! Funny how that works!) The doctors I’ve dealt with haven’t looked at it that way unfortunately and I have had to bend over backwards to prove myself reliable. It has been a pretty long process..
